Chapter 48: Caught Red-Handed

The script on the table fluttered gently as the wind turned a few pages. The empty lounge was silent.

“Mr. Jiang, I’m really sorry. We have no idea who did it, but someone poured water into the umbrella.”

The stage manager followed behind Jiang Yan with an apologetic expression as they entered the room.

Jiang Yan was completely soaked. Water dripped continuously from the ends of his hair, running down his cheeks, while his black suit was stained with damp patches.

During the outdoor shoot just now, Jiang Yan had finished his lines with the female lead beneath the eaves. When he turned and picked up the umbrella leaning against the wall, the moment he opened it, an entire umbrella’s worth of water came pouring down over him, soaking him from head to toe. To make matters worse, it carried an oddly sweet floral fragrance.

Taking the change of clothes handed over by the stylist, Jiang Yan looked at the stage manager. His expression remained gentle, but there was a trace of coldness in his voice.

“This isn’t a minor issue. Today it was only water. Next time, if a wire harness snaps, it won’t end so simply.”

The stage manager apologized repeatedly, though inwardly he didn’t think much of it. It was only water inside an umbrella. At worst, someone with poor morals had played a prank.

Seeing the man’s sincere attitude, Jiang Yan didn’t press the matter further. Carrying his clothes, he headed toward the restroom.

The stage manager hurried off to investigate the culprit, leaving only the stylist in the lounge.

As Jiang Yan reached for the restroom door, he immediately sensed something was off.

Normally, when no one was inside, the restroom door would be left open.

Today, it was closed.

His gaze cooled as he quietly turned the doorknob.

There was no sound from inside.

Nor was there any resistance.

The door opened with ease.

He stepped inside, his eyes sweeping across the vanity before settling on the frosted sliding door at the back.

Behind it, Mu An was pressed flat against the wall like a gecko, utterly resigned to his fate.

“Come out.”

A sharp, commanding voice rang out from outside.

Mu An’s heart skipped a beat as he pursed his lips miserably.

You’re just changing clothes! Why are you so observant?!

“System, save me!”

【Host, stay strong! Getting caught peeping is a required lesson for every yandere fan! Once you’ve survived this trial, you’ll become even stronger!】

“Stop talking nonsense and help me—!”

Watching the blurry silhouette behind the frosted glass draw closer, Mu An felt that he was only moments away from dying of embarrassment.

He would rather jump into the toilet and let it flush him away than be dragged out and exposed as some kind of pervert.

When his master had caught him in the previous world, at least he had only needed to face one person. Shen Shengqing had never publicly humiliated him.

But things were different now.

He and Jiang Yan weren’t even close.

Jiang Yan might even know that he was the one who had stabbed him.

There was every chance Jiang Yan would treat him like a thief or a pervert and drag him before the entire film crew.

Whoosh!

The frosted door was yanked open.

The overhead lights illuminated Jiang Yan’s damp hair, making the droplets glisten.

His handsome brows were tightly furrowed, his eyes cold and intimidating.

Yet the instant his gaze landed on the young man standing there with both hands clasped above his head in surrender, his face full of panic and pleading—

His long lashes trembled.

The fierce expression instantly gave way to bewilderment.

“Idol! I’m really not a pervert!”

A thin layer of tears shimmered in Mu An’s eyes, making him look pitiful beneath the lights.

“I… I just wanted to borrow the restroom! Please don’t tell my supervisor. He’ll dock my pay!”

With only a few sentences, Mu An transformed himself from someone trespassing in a celebrity’s private lounge into nothing more than a staff member who had taken the convenient restroom.

After all, the crew did have public restrooms.

They were just farther away and much dirtier.

It wasn’t impossible that someone would secretly use this one instead.

Of course…

That only worked if Jiang Yan didn’t know he was the person who had stabbed him.

Mu An cautiously studied Jiang Yan’s expression.

To his surprise, Jiang Yan’s cheeks gradually flushed pink.

His eyes sparkled with a complicated joy, as though he’d just won the lottery.

Mu An carefully edged one foot sideways, squeezing through the narrow gap between Jiang Yan and the sliding door.

“Um… I’ll… I’ll head out first. I won’t disturb you anymore…”

The moment he turned around—

Someone wrapped an arm around his shoulders from behind and pulled him back.

His back immediately pressed against a cool body.

Jiang Yan lowered his head slightly, his warm breath brushing against Mu An’s ear.

The heat made Mu An instinctively shrink.

“Mu An.”

The low, husky voice whispered beside his ear.

Mu An’s heart lurched.

He didn’t dare turn around.

His mind had gone completely blank, terrified that Jiang Yan was finally about to settle the score.

Instead, Jiang Yan smiled faintly.

“Are you… my fan?”

Mu An nodded stiffly.

“…Did you come to the film set…”

Jiang Yan swallowed, his voice barely above a whisper.

“…because of me?”

His warm breaths continued to tease the sensitive skin at Mu An’s neck, sending tingling shivers through him.

Even Mu An’s voice came out slightly hoarse.

“…Mm.”

A cool droplet of water slid from Jiang Yan’s damp hair onto Mu An’s collarbone before trickling beneath his shirt.

The mixture of coolness and warmth left Mu An completely flustered.

His heart pounded wildly, driven by nothing but guilt.

Jiang Yan lowered his voice once more.

“…Would you like to be my assistant?”

Mu An’s mind turned sluggishly. According to his persona, as a fan, he should naturally agree with joy; but what if Jiang Yan was looking to retaliate against him…

“You can’t refuse, okay?” Jiang Yan made the arbitrary decision before he could speak. “Will you come start work tomorrow?”

“Okay…” Mu An attempted to wriggle free from the other’s embrace, feeling that something about this situation was somehow off.

Jiang Yan took a deep breath and slowly released his hold.

He suddenly raised his voice and called out to the stylist outside the room, “Sister Cheng, I’m feeling a bit unwell and probably can’t get my hair and makeup done. Could you please let the director know?”

“What?!” Sister Cheng took a few worried steps forward, arriving at the restroom doorway. “Are you alright?”

Mu An looked at the shadow outside the restroom door and hurriedly retreated a few steps, terrified of being spotted.

The corners of Jiang Yan’s lips curved slightly, “It’s probably an allergic reaction, nothing serious. Could I trouble you to inform the director first?”

“Alright! I’ll go right now!” Sister Cheng quickly turned and headed outside.

It was only when the footsteps faded into the distance that Mu An let out a sigh of relief, turning his head only to meet Jiang Yan’s half-smiling eyes.

Jiang Yan probably hadn’t believed his excuse about just using the restroom from start to finish.

“Why is your face so red?” Mu An asked, knitting his brows.

Jiang Yan blinked, his eyes looking innocent, “I’m allergic, remember?”

As he spoke, he placed his hand on the buttons at his collar and slowly unbuttoned his top.

Mu An was so startled he quickly backpaddled several steps, slamming his hand against the door handle.

A war raged in his mind—Normal Personality: Eyes off! Run now! Obsessive Sasaeng Personality: Go for it! What fan misses out on their idol taking off his clothes?!

The smile on Jiang Yan’s lips didn’t wane, “Could you close the restroom door on your way out? I’m going to change.”

“Oh… okay, alright.” Mu An turned the handle without missing a beat, walked out, and calmly shut the restroom door with his head lowered.

The moment the door closed and Jiang Yan was out of sight, he took a sudden, deep breath.

That was way too terrifying!

Even after returning to his work area, Mu An remained shaken.

Seeing him return, Chen Xi gave him an admiring thumbs-up, “Slacked off for thirty minutes. The boss couldn’t find you just now; you’re finished.”

Mu An silently closed his eyes, “It’s fine. I’m changing jobs soon anyway.”
