Chapter 50: From Fan to Assistant

The warm, yellow light illuminated the empty living room, while the sound of a shower pattered from the nearby bathroom.

Suddenly, a crisp ringtone shattered the solitude.

A pair of hands dripping with water eagerly turned off the shower, wiped hastily on a nearby towel, and picked up the phone.

“Hello?” Jiang Yan’s voice held a trace of impatience.

“Brother Jiang, I’d like to discuss the contract,” came Mu An’s slightly hesitant voice from the other end.

Jiang Yan’s heart leaped with joy. He grabbed a towel and began drying his hair, “Where are you right now?”

“I’m at my dormitory. I’ll come over to find you now,” Mu An said, reaching for his key card to head out.

But he heard Jiang Yan urgently stop him, “No, stay in your room and wait for me. I’m already in the car and can stop by on my way. Just text me the address.”

Mu An replied with an “oh” and asked, “Should I add you on WeChat then?”

Jiang Yan gave a firm affirmative. Once the call ended, Mu An’s friend request was accepted the moment he sent it.

Jiang Yan dressed quickly, styled his hair with a hairdryer, and then headed downstairs with his key card.

In the room.

Mu An washed the tea set while preparing to greet his guest, simultaneously discussing countermeasures with the system.

[Since he doesn’t have any evidence to prove you were the one who stabbed him, we’ll just play dumb and deny everything!]

Mu An nodded. “But I still feel Jiang Yan’s behavior is very strange. He tracks me one moment and shields me the next. I really don’t know what he’s up to.”

[Anyway, just try to complete the mission. Our ultimate goal is to end up in prison! The worst-case scenario isn’t anything beyond that!]

“Thank you, I feel comforted,” Mu An wiped away a nonexistent, sorrowful tear.

Ding-dong—

The doorbell rang. Mu An hurriedly rose and walked to the door.

He opened it to find Jiang Yan wearing a baseball cap and a face mask, with only his beautiful eyes visible. He was dressed in a pinkish-blue jacket, looking like a youthful college student.

“Welcome, welcome!” Mu An greeted him with an awkward smile, ushering him into the room.

Jiang Yan’s bright eyes lingered for a moment on Mu An’s smile. It was only after stepping inside that he realized how cramped the room was.

Upon entry, the bathroom and toilet were right next to the entryway, and further in was a large bed, with a small tea table placed beside it.

Jiang Yan touched the portable surveillance device in his pocket, ultimately deciding not to take it out.

After sitting down at the tea table, Jiang Yan finally removed his cap and mask, revealing his handsome face.

Mu An dared not look at him directly anymore, hurriedly pouring him a cup of tea. “I didn’t expect you to come in person.”

Mu An’s slightly cautious demeanor made Jiang Yan knit his brows firmly.

“No need to be so formal; we will be spending a long time together from now on.” Jiang Yan’s soothing, gentle tone made Mu An relax a little.

Mu An looked over the contract Jiang Yan had handed him, flipping through it casually while listening to Jiang Yan’s explanations.

“As my assistant, you’ll earn twenty thousand a month.”

Mu An’s eyes brightened slightly, a flash of joy spreading through them.

“On weekdays, you only need to be responsible for waking me up in the morning, accompanying me to the set, and coming back with me.”

Mu An lowered his eyes to read the contract details. There really weren’t any traps, but before signing, he couldn’t help but voice his question.

“Why did you recruit me as your assistant? Just because I’m your fan?”

Jiang Yan looked Mu An in the eyes, his expression earnest, “It is my honor to have you as my assistant.”

Mu An froze for a moment, his fingers clutching the pen tightening slightly, a hesitant “Ah?” echoing in his mind.

Jiang Yan lowered his gaze and raised his teacup, “You saved me in the dark alley back then, and I never had a chance to thank you. Being able to have you as my assistant now is my honor.”

Mu An’s lips curved slightly as he happily poked the system. “System~ he doesn’t seem to have realized I’m the one who stabbed him; he’s even thanking me~”

[Then why is he tracking you and monitoring you?] the system retorted with a soul-searching question.

A question mark also popped up in Mu An’s mind, but noticing Jiang Yan was still staring at him, he immediately flashed a smile.

“I’m also very glad I took that route back then, giving me the opportunity to help you. You are my idol, after all.”

A glint of light flashed in Jiang Yan’s eyes. He inexplicably remembered what the other had said to him right after leaving the police station.

It seemed his efforts over the past few years had been effective; Mu An’s perception of him had changed.

Mu An had long forgotten what he had said to Jiang Yan back then. He lowered his head and signed both copies of the contract, keeping one for each party.

Seeing this, Jiang Yan added, “Move into the hotel where I’m staying tomorrow morning. I’ll cover the room fees so it’s convenient for you to pick me up in the morning.”

Mu An gladly agreed. Since the boss was willing to cover his room and board, he had no reason to refuse.

The contract was signed, but Jiang Yan showed no intention of leaving. Mu An couldn’t help but refill his tea, asking what he should be doing tomorrow.

“I don’t have to film tomorrow morning. Just give me a call whenever you arrive at the hotel and I’ll bring you to your room. During the day, you can just help me bring a thermos of hot water.” Jiang Yan had previously had an assistant, but the person had secretly filmed videos of him to sell to fans, which was why they were fired.
