Mu An forcefully slapped away Qing Ya’s wandering hand.
Feeling a slight numbness in his fingertips from the force of the blow, Qing Ya’s brow furrowed slightly; how dare a half-breed strike him?
“I know what you want me to do. It is nothing more than wanting to use my hands to poison Shizun, so your Demon Sect rids itself of a formidable enemy at the Spiritual Transformation stage.”
Mu An looked straight at Qing Ya, remaining neither haughty nor humble.
“The rumors about my identity circulating in the outside world were likely spread by you too, weren’t they?”
Qing Ya curled his lips slightly, “And what if they were?”
“I only did that to remind you: if you don’t hurry up and administer the poison, you will lose your chance to have your master.”
Mu An’s eyes narrowed slightly, “I will poison him, but the prerequisite is that I must be able to leave the city today.”
He directed his gaze at the black-clad man behind Qing Ya, “If your subordinate hadn’t stolen that treasure and caused the entire city to be locked down, I would have returned to Shizun’s side by now.”
“If I return too late, and my Shizun enters the city to look for me, only to hear some rumors and lose his trust in me, then you will never be able to have this poison administered.”
Qing Ya frowned slightly and looked at the black-clad man behind him, who instinctively took a step back, “El… Elder, this is the item I need to save my wife! It cannot be returned!”
Qing Ya spared him a casual glance, his thin lips curving upward, “How could something that has fallen into the hands of our Demon Clan ever be returned to the righteous path?”
However, the black-clad man still did not let down his guard, as he could tell that Elder Qing Ya also desired to seize this treasure.
After all, the Soul-Gathering Lantern could not only recall souls, but also focus the mind, which was highly beneficial for cultivation.
Sure enough, Qing Ya approached step by step and suddenly unleashed a blast of demonic power, to which the black-clad man immediately counterattacked.
With neither of them willing to compromise, they began to clash, while Mu An stood to the side, quietly backing away.
But it was clear that the black-clad man’s power was no match for Qing Ya’s, and he was being entirely suppressed in the fight.
Seeing this, Mu An quietly ignited a signal flare, and yellow smoke exploded into the air.
Qing Ya looked up, sparing it a glance, and could not help but chuckle, “You really are a bold brat.”
“It’s just a distraction. Those people can’t defeat you anyway. If they are all drawn here, I can go home and poison Shizun,” Mu An fabricated shamelessly.
A flash of malice crossed Qing Ya’s eyes, and he actually found a spare moment to strike a blast of demonic power toward Mu An.
Mu An quickly dodged, but his outer robe was still slashed open.
“If you don’t sustain some injuries, how will you explain the demonic energy on your body?”
Qing Ya even found the time to tease him about the last time Mu An had taken the opportunity to set him up at the Qingyun Sect.
Mu An didn’t bother to fight back, knowing he was no match.
Clutching his slightly aching right arm, he turned and fled, deeply afraid of being caught when the righteous cultivators pursuing the demons arrived.
Qing Ya’s effeminate voice still echoed behind him, “If your master cannot satisfy you, you are welcome to come find this seat.”
Mu An rolled his eyes speechlessly, feeling a sense of being harassed, and silently complained to the system, ‘Damn, does the Demon Clan have a mating season too?’
Following the system’s directions, Mu An evaded the city guards and made his way to an inn, where he ordered lunch and sat down.
At this moment, there was no longer anyone searching for demons with demon-expelling bells on the street.
That signal flare was something all disciples of their sect carried; if they encountered a demon and could not win, they could launch it to call for backup.
With the City Lord’s Estate burglarized, and him setting off the signal flare in a timely manner, everyone had likely been drawn there to catch the thief.
Once they witnessed the demon-expelling bell being seized by Qing Ya, they would have no choice but to give up since they couldn’t defeat him.
At that point, traffic through the city gates would naturally resume.
Sure enough, after he had eaten and drunk his fill and arrived at the city gates, he found that they were open and traffic had resumed.
He simply doubled back to the custom carpet shop and paid extra to have them rush the order before tonight; he truly did not dare to return to this dreadful city again.
He was terrified that they might start hunting demons with demon-expelling bells again at any moment.
Ultimately, Mu An purchased a stockpile of supplies and did not return to Mutian Cliff until late at night.
Upon entering his home, he almost failed to recognize it.
Was this harmonious room layout truly his home?
Mu An himself had absolutely no talent for interior decoration; when he returned home yesterday, he had merely lined up the necessary furniture.
Now, however, the place was arranged with a great sense of space.
The night-luminescent pearl was glowing inside, brightly illuminating the living area; if his home had been a mere cave before he left, it could now be called an immortal cave dwelling.
He walked into the bedroom space behind the screen, only to see his master covered in dust, sitting on a recliner to the side, casually reading a book.
He looked as though he did not care in the slightest when Mu An would return.
Mu An stepped forward and cast a cleansing spell on him to serve as a bath, but his clothes still needed to be changed.
“Shizun, I bought some new clothes for you. Would you like to try them on?”
Shen Shengqing raised his eyes slightly to look at him.
He actually harbored some grievances in his heart, blaming the youth for leaving in the morning with promises of returning as soon as possible, only to come back late at night.
However, this glance revealed that something was wrong.
He stood up and grabbed Mu An’s sleeve, his gaze landing on the youth’s slashed robe.
“Don’t worry, Shizun. I just ran into some people fighting on the way back and was accidentally grazed.”
Having offered his comfort, Mu An found it rather laughable.
Why would his master worry about him being injured at a time like this?
He probably assumed that righteous cultivators were looking for his whereabouts and that Mu An had clashed with them.
He raised his hand to pinch Shen Shengqing’s chin, interlocking their fingers in an overbearing, ten-finger grip. “Shizun, do you think they came to rescue you? What a pity, they didn’t.”
Shen Shengqing furrowed his brow slightly, not understanding what Mu An was talking about, but he could feel the other’s hand brushing against his lips.
Mu An wore a murky, unfathomable expression as he stared at Shen Shengqing’s thin lips, feeling increasingly starved. “From now on, I’m not going anywhere; I’m staying right by your side. They can’t find me, and they won’t find you either!”
Sensing Mu An’s intention to make a move, Shen Shengqing leaned in slightly, but Mu An instinctively tilted his head away, dodging the kiss.
Yesterday, in order to maintain his yandere obsessed-fan persona, he had kissed Shen Shengqing when the other took the initiative.
He had forgotten that Shizun was fundamentally a straight man; how could he make the mistake of doing it again now?
Though his persona was something he needed to maintain, as the female lead’s man, he had to preserve his chastity—how could he possibly undermine Shizun’s purity?
In the future, after Shizun and the female lead fell in love, looking back on everything that happened now would probably only fill him with disgust.
Hatred welled up in the depths of Shen Shengqing’s eyes. An’an was dodging him again—why? Why did he say he loved him while simultaneously dodging him?
It left his heart feeling as though it were suspended from a sharp blade, neither able to rise nor fall, aching with a fine, stinging pain from which he couldn’t extricate himself.
“Shizun, let’s change your clothes.” Mu An placed the newly bought clothes on a nearby rack and stepped out from behind the screen.
Shen Shengqing stood for a moment, silently stripping off his garments and putting on the new attire.
Seeing that Shen Shengqing hadn’t put on that warm magical robe after changing, Mu An pulled out a cloak, wrapped him up securely, and carried him outside.
“Shizun, I’m going to go lay down the carpet for you.”
Mu An exerted himself to lay down the bedroom carpet, carried his master back in, and then went back out to lay down the carpet in the living room.
Treading upon the soft carpet, Shen Shengqing’s heart melted into a puddle.
An’an loved him so much; he had actually taken the trouble to lay down floor mats specifically for him.
Staying out for so long today must have surely been for his sake as well.
Using the gentle glow of the night-luminescent pearl, he looked at the person busy laying out the floor mats.
Once Mu An finished laying out the floor mats, he stepped forward to help move the furniture.
Mu An’s heart gave a start; as an obsessed fan, how could he possibly let Shizun lift a finger to help move furniture?
Yet his obstruction proved ineffective as his master swept a chilling gaze over him, and he inexplicably lost the courage to resist.
He allowed Shizun to help tidy up the room.
In the days that followed, just as Mu An had declared, he went nowhere.
At night, he slept fully clothed alongside Shizun. Before sleeping, he never failed to roleplay a bit of the pervert.
“Yan-yan, you smell so good—”
“I really want to hold Shizun like this and cuddle until the end of time.”
“Shizun, you are seducing me.”
Yet for all his big talk, he never actually made a physical move. Whenever Shen Shengqing tried to take the initiative, he would be pinned down with a line: “You’re playing with fire, man.”
“You’re injured right now, so I won’t touch you.”
As time went on, Shen Shengqing was left entirely speechless, increasingly feeling that Mu An was purely torturing him.
During the day, he would cook meals for Shizun. But since his cooking skills left much to be desired, somehow or other, it always ended up with Shizun cooking for him.
After eating, Mu An and Shizun would curl up together to read storybooks.
He had originally expected Shizun to find it boring, but to his surprise, Shizun read with great relish, occasionally jotting down annotations with a brush.
Until one day, when he wanted to find that novelty book—How a Pale Scholar Marries into a Wealthy Family as a Live-in Son-in-law—and couldn’t find it anywhere after searching forever, only to finally discover it sitting right in his master’s hands.
In that split second, the world seemed to spin before his eyes. He looked at the stack of books beside his master and realized they were all a pile of novelty books he had bought purely out of curiosity; Shizun hadn’t touched a single one of those serious travelogues.
“Shizun, how can you read this kind of book!” It completely shattered the male lead’s cold, aloof image, alright!
Shen Shengqing raised an eyebrow slightly. Though he couldn’t speak, the meaning in his eyes was crystal clear: * Weren’t these the ones you bought?*
Shame and indignation welled up in Mu An’s chest. Fearing that Shizun would think he wanted to be a kept man, he hurriedly explained, “I was just curious…”
[Oh~ curious~ Why would you be curious about how to be a live-in son-in-law~ Could it be~]
“Shut up, System!” Mu An’s face flushed red.
He scooped up all those miscellaneous books in one go and shoved a serious travelogue right into Shen Shengqing’s hands.
The corners of Shen Shengqing’s mouth curled upward in a faint, silent smile.
