Chapter 13: A Royal Visit and a Fiery Confrontation

Not long after Queen Furei departed, another rare guest arrived at the infirmary.

A young woman, also with long silver-gray hair and adorned in a flowing pink dress, swaggered into the medical room.

Upon seeing Su Mu safe and sound by the bed, she pouted, a hint of disappointment in her eyes.

“Oh? You’re actually still alive, huh.”

Su Mu regarded the young woman before him, a headache beginning to throb.

According to Laura’s introduction, this was his younger sister, Linna Miston, the sole princess of the Miston Kingdom.

He sensed a profound hostility emanating from her.

‘Could it be another emotional debt left by the original body?’ he wondered.

Su Mu sighed inwardly, watching Linna strike a haughty, peacock-like pose, remaining silent.

Linna had anticipated a scolding from her brother, but it never came. Instead, Su Mu’s demeanor was remarkably calm and gentle.

‘What was going on?’

‘Normally, if I provoked him like this, that rotten older brother would have retaliated by now.’

She challenged him again, “What’s wrong? Did getting injured mess up your brain? Didn’t you hear what I said?”

Su Mu rubbed his temples, forcing a gentle smile. “Are you here to visit me?”

“Wh-wh-wh-what!”

Linna’s face flushed crimson, and she immediately stammered. “You’re overthinking things! I just happened to be passing by, so I thought I’d check if you were still alive. It’s not like I came specifically to see you, so don’t flatter yourself!”

“Thank you.”

Su Mu automatically ignored Linna’s words, speaking with genuine sincerity.

Linna bristled, stomping her foot in frustration. “Thank me for what, you big dummy! I told you I wasn’t here to see you!”

Su Mu merely smiled, saying nothing.

The calmer he appeared, the more frantic Linna became, continuously trying to explain herself.

Witnessing this scene, Laura observed thoughtfully from the side.

‘Could this be the classic ‘natural counter to a tsundere’ often found in novels?’

‘Hmph, romance novels truly don’t lie.’

“You, you, you, you’re utterly unreasonable! Hmph!”

Linna, utterly flustered by Su Mu’s nonchalant attitude, stomped away in a fit of pique.

“Ah…”

Finally having seen off this troublesome presence, Su Mu sighed, feeling mentally exhausted.

‘Tsunderes are so out of fashion now, little sister,’ he mused internally. He then glanced at Laura, who was watching him with a lingering smile, finding it amusing. “You seem to be enjoying the show quite a bit, my dear fiancée.”

Though he didn’t entirely believe the identity Laura had concocted for herself, it didn’t prevent him from playing along. After all, he wouldn’t lose anything if such a lovely young woman was willing to be his fiancée.

Laura smiled, her eyes twinkling. “And you, my Prince, seem to be quite adept at playing your part.”

“Heh, it’s simply the most effective strategy for dealing with a tsundere, that’s all.”

Su Mu lay back down on the bed.

He truly felt a headache coming on. He hadn’t felt much during his previous ‘intimate’ encounter with that fox spirit, but now he felt intermittent throbbing pain in his head.

That Pera fellow had definitely done something to him.

“I’m tired.”

Su Mu closed his eyes.

Laura smiled knowingly, her voice soft. “Rest assured, Your Highness. No one else will disturb you here.”

She closed the infirmary door, gazing at Su Mu’s sleeping face with a thoughtful expression, then resumed her work of concocting healing potions.

Su Mu slept soundly. After their brief interaction, he trusted Laura implicitly. At the very least, this doctor wouldn’t harm her patient.

In his mind, the system screen flickered, a red warning flashing briefly:

When Su Mu awoke again, the sky outside had already darkened.

Bai Ji had returned to his side, sitting by the bed, watching him intently.

The girl’s unbound black hair was now tied up, her pearl-like eyes unmoving. Her delicate features, rather than being merely soft, conveyed a resolute expression, exuding a unique charm.

Normally, he would have been quite pleased to wake up and see a beautiful girl. However, Bai Ji had left too many shadows in his heart.

Compared to seeing her, Su Mu would have preferred to see Laura.

Bai Ji, as always, was the first to notice Su Mu’s awakening.

“Your Highness, you’re awake. Did you rest well?”

Su Mu averted Bai Ji’s concerned gaze, finding Laura nearby, and smiled. “Don’t worry, my dear fiancée took excellent care of me.”

Bai Ji froze for a moment, then her expression turned icy, her gaze filled with killing intent as she looked at Laura.

Laura was momentarily stunned, but she quickly recovered, meeting Bai Ji’s gaze without fear, and chuckled softly. “It is my honor to receive such affirmation from my beloved Prince.”

Su Mu was dumbfounded. He had intended to use Bai Ji to get a little revenge on Laura for lying about being his fiancée, but this girl was truly ruthless. She dared to agree to it right in front of Bai Ji.

‘Was she not afraid of Bai Ji going berserk?’

Su Mu’s cheek twitched slightly. Just watching from the sidelines, he could feel the chilling aura Bai Ji was suppressing to its extreme.

Yet, as the target of this icy pressure, Laura remained completely unfazed, even retaliating with a subtle provocation.

He couldn’t help but admire this pink-haired girl wholeheartedly.

Bai Ji’s gaze locked onto Laura.

Laura refused to back down, puffing out her chest proudly and glaring back.

As their gazes clashed, Su Mu almost heard the crackling sound of electric sparks.

In this tense atmosphere, Su Mu tried to shrink further into the corner, not daring to make a sound. He certainly didn’t have the guts to provoke Bai Ji like Laura did.

He had personally witnessed this woman’s madness. He dared not imagine the consequences if he were to add fuel to the fire and truly enrage Bai Ji.

‘Better to let a friend die than a poor monk,’ he thought.

Su Mu remained silent, blending into the shadows, acting like a ghost, prepared to wait for Laura and Bai Ji to settle their dispute on their own.

At that moment, Laura and Bai Ji simultaneously turned, both unyielding faces looking towards Su Mu in the corner.

Laura smiled without warmth, her voice dripping with a captivating allure as she playfully cooed, “Hubby~ Sister Bai doesn’t believe us. Won’t you please help Laura explain?”

Su Mu felt numb…

‘Explain what?! You spouted that nonsense yourself; you deal with it! Don’t drag me into this, hey!’

Bai Ji’s expression was as cold as ever, her eyes complex as she looked at Su Mu, also awaiting his answer.

Just as Su Mu was agonizing, unsure of what to do, a despair-inducing chime rang in his ears.

“Ding! Congratulations, Master! You have once again triggered a critical choice node.”

Immediately, a list of options appeared before him:

“Facing the jealous spat between Miss Saintess Laura and personal attendant Bai Ji, you choose:

Option One: Help Miss Saintess lie, affirming the fact that she is your fiancée.

Option Two: Strongly deny Miss Saintess’s lie, appeasing the uneasy Bai Ji.

Option Three: Remain aloof and uninvolved. You two argue, I know nothing.”

“Please choose carefully.”

Looking at the options before him, Su Mu wished he could slap himself twice. Why couldn’t he control his mouth? Was living not good enough? Why did he have to be so loose-tongued?

Su Mu was on the verge of tears, filled with regret.
