Su Mu’s sudden outburst startled Ling Guang, causing a wave of strong displeasure.
Sensing the anger in the knight’s gaze, Su Mu quickly apologized. “My apologies, I didn’t mean to mock you. It’s just that seeing you, you resemble an old acquaintance of mine, and I couldn’t help myself. You know, I’ve lost my memory, and things are still a bit muddled…”
Ling Guang paused, taken aback.
‘The Second Prince lost his memory?’
‘When did that happen?’
He had been away on a mission until recently, only returning a few days prior, so he wasn’t entirely clear on the recent happenings in the Royal Capital.
In that case, Su Mu’s reaction was indeed understandable.
“My apologies, Your Highness, I misunderstood.”
Ling Guang bowed decisively, performing a standard knight’s salute, then composed himself, focusing entirely on the task at hand.
Su Mu’s opinion of Ling Guang improved by several degrees.

The two arrived at the outermost level of the dungeon. Here, the cells were far more luxurious than those deeper inside, complete with tables, beds, chairs, and other living essentials. They were hardly deserving of the name ‘cells,’ feeling more like ordinary inns outside.
In one of these, Su Mu spotted Katusha.
The girl still wore her practical outfit, though this time without her headscarf, and her chest was no longer conspicuously padded.
Her beautiful hair fell naturally, revealing a touch of vulnerability amidst her usual competence.
It had been a few days since Su Mu and Katusha last met, and he was surprised to see how haggard she looked, with prominent dark circles under her eyes.
It seemed she hadn’t had an easy time of it lately.
Su Mu gently knocked on the door, drawing the attention of Katusha, who had been resting with her eyes closed.
Seeing Su Mu outside the door, Katusha rubbed her eyes in disbelief. “Mu, Brother Mu?”
Su Mu offered a gentle smile. “Shasha, I’m here to take you home.”
Ling Guang opened the door. “Miss Katusha, you are free to leave. The Second Prince has vouched for your innocence as a guarantor. However, this is only temporary; please do not leave the Royal Capital until the truth comes to light. Otherwise, you will bear the consequences.”
Katusha nodded gratefully to Ling Guang. “I understand, thank you, Sir Knight Commander.”
“Let’s go.”
Su Mu gently ruffled Katusha’s hair.
The girl’s eyes were a little red as she softly bumped her head against Su Mu’s chest. “Thank you, Brother Mu…”
“Mm, let’s go home.”
Su Mu took two steps with Katusha before suddenly freezing.
Katusha looked up, puzzled by Su Mu’s abrupt halt.
Understanding Su Mu’s awkward predicament, Ling Guang stepped forward. “Your Highness, please allow me to escort you back.”
Su Mu let out a sigh of relief, casting a grateful look at the blond knight. “Thank you, I appreciate your trouble.”
It was then that Katusha realized why Su Mu had stopped moving, and she couldn’t help but let out a giggle.
By now, it was late, and the outside world was pitch black, making it impossible to see the road.
Fortunately, Ling Guang was leading the way. Otherwise, given Su Mu’s terrible sense of direction, he wouldn’t have been able to find his way home even in daylight, let alone at this hour.
“Brother Mu, how did you know I was arrested?”
Katusha asked on their way back.
“Roland told me. What exactly happened? Why were you suddenly arrested?”
Katusha lowered her head, looking a little dejected. “It’s complicated… In short, someone wanted to harm me.”
“If you’re in trouble, why didn’t you come to me?”
“This is a business matter, Brother Mu. As a prince, getting involved would have a bad impact on you…”
“Do I fear such things?”
Su Mu chuckled. “At most, it would just add more slanders to my name. Aren’t you clear about my reputation before? It’s already beyond redemption. Do I still care about such trifles?”
Katusha kept her head down, remaining silent.
“You don’t have to feel embarrassed, nor should you feel like you’re troubling me. Some things, perhaps, are unavoidable. Rest assured, I will definitely get justice for you.”
Ling Guang walked far ahead, consciously maintaining a significant distance to give Su Mu and Katusha ample space.
Yet, with his strength, he could still easily overhear their conversation behind him.
Ling Guang was somewhat surprised; the Second Prince didn’t seem to be as arrogant, ruthless, or tyrannical as the rumors suggested.
At least, not at this moment.
Ling Guang’s perception of Su Mu improved slightly.
“Oh, by the way, Brother Mu, did you come alone?”
Katusha suddenly asked.
Su Mu froze for a moment, then smacked his palm in alarm. “Damn it! I left Bai Ji back at the palace!”

The King returned to the palace through the secret passage.
By the secret door, Bai Ji stood ramrod straight, quietly awaiting Su Mu’s return.
Louis glanced at her. “No need to wait. Susumu should already be back in his chambers. You can just return directly.”
Bai Ji paused, then bowed and hurried off, intending to find Su Mu.
“Wait.”
Louis called out to her retreating back. “What have you decided about nullifying the contract?”
“Your Majesty, there’s no need. This is a testament to my love for His Highness. You only need to remember the promise you made to me.”
“Heh, don’t worry, you’ll get what you want.”
Seeing that Bai Ji had no intention of removing the contract, Louis didn’t press the matter further and turned to return to his study.
Upon opening the door, Sasaki stood motionless before the desk like a statue, seemingly having remained there since Louis left, without a single movement.
With the clever Susumu having set such a high standard, seeing Sasaki’s dull, rigid demeanor now filled Louis with an inexplicable rage. He immediately reprimanded him:
“Are you standing there like a door god?! Why are you still lingering here?”
Sasaki stiffly twisted his neck to look at Louis by the door. “Father, you still haven’t told me the details of the counterfeit holy water case.”
Louis laughed in exasperation. “If I told you everything, what would there be left for you to investigate? Use your own brain, alright? Don’t be like a useless bum who waits for everything to be handed to them. It’s disgraceful!”
Sasaki clenched his fists.
Before Su Mu’s arrival, his father had clearly intended to tell him the relevant information and details, which was why he had waited until now.
Instead… all he got was a harsh scolding.
From Louis’s increasingly hostile attitude towards him in these two instances, Sasaki discerned his father’s disappointment.
But why? He was still as excellent as before, so why was his father now dissatisfied with him?
“Father, do you now think that I am terrible, and Susumu is a hundred times better than me?”
His dark eyes fixed intently on Louis.
Louis retorted without mercy. “No one has ever denied your worth. What I deny are your foolish, utterly useless actions! While you complain about not getting opportunities, Susumu is already preparing for them! While you remain indifferent to opportunities, Susumu is already taking action, do you understand?! You good-for-nothing!”
Louis grew increasingly agitated, eventually shouting the last words.
Sasaki’s dao heart shattered. In his memory, the kind and amiable father had completely died.
A gray haze tinged his eyes as he quietly performed a farewell bow, not uttering a single word, and left the study directly.
Bang!
The door slammed shut with a tremendous sound.
Louis’s agitated emotions subsided, replaced by an expression of pain.
He walked to the bathroom, stood before the mirror, and stared intently at his reflection.
Slowly, a dense black mist began to creep into the man’s light blue pupils.
But the next moment, Louis slapped himself across the face, and the black mist instantly dissipated.
He looked at the darkness still stirring deep within his eyes, then slammed a fist into his own reflection in the mirror, roaring in anger:
“Get out! Get out of here! Stop interfering with my emotions! I’ll handle my own affairs. Get out!!!”
Outside the ancient palace castle, a crow flapped its wings and flew, emitting a harsh cry, dropping a few black feathers that glowed with an eerie light under the pale moonlight.
