“Ding ding ding ding! Level 1 → Level 2!”
“You’ve leveled up, Master! Please keep up the hard work, keep going~”
Su Mu awoke once more, disturbed by the familiar string of mechanical voices ringing in his ears.
Opening his eyes, he saw a familiar option panel before him.
“Facing Bai Ji’s unauthorized killing, you choose—”
“Option One: Reprimand Bai Ji and banish her from the bedchamber.”
“Option Two: Console Bai Ji and let the matter slide.”
“Option Three: Praise Bai Ji and order her to kill all the maids in the bedchamber.”
‘What is going on?’
He vaguely recalled being killed by Bai Ji.
Within the resplendent bedchamber, a headless corpse still bled, while the kneeling maids continued to tremble. The crystal wind chimes by the bedhead swayed gently, though no breeze stirred.
“Ding-a-ling-ling~ Ding-a-ling-ling~”
Such a familiar scene.
The decapitated woman’s body still spurted blood before the bed.
In the corner, the kneeling maids shivered uncontrollably.
At the foot of the steps, the black-clad woman, Bai Ji, maintained her cold expression.
Upon seeing Bai Ji, Su Mu’s heart abruptly seized.
Memories of his death flooded his mind like a torrent.
His limbs began to ache faintly, the shadow of Bai Ji’s brutal murder lingering stubbornly. That agonizing sensation slowly, relentlessly, eroded Su Mu’s sanity.
A powerful sense of suffocation tormented his spirit, as if he had been plunged into the abyssal depths of the ocean, unable to breathe, surrounded by utter darkness.
“Hah—hah—”
Su Mu gasped uncontrollably, clutching himself and curling into a ball. He huddled in the corner of the bed, trembling.
“Your Highness!”
Seeing Su Mu in such a state, Bai Ji’s cold demeanor shattered. She rushed forward, consumed by worry.
Su Mu couldn’t even bear to look at Bai Ji. The image of the woman wildly hacking at him with a sword felt as vivid as if it were happening right before his eyes.
Catching a glimpse of Bai Ji advancing from the corner of his eye, he recoiled in fear, curling even tighter.
“Your Highness! Are you afraid of me? Why…”
Bai Ji asked sorrowfully, hesitating to approach. However, seeing Su Mu’s disheveled and pitiful state, she couldn’t resist embracing him, attempting to soothe his tattered heart.
The moment she touched him, Su Mu’s body visibly trembled.
“Let go of me…”
Su Mu’s voice wavered.
“Your Highness, what did you say?”
Bai Ji looked at Su Mu, their gazes meeting directly. She froze, stunned by the boundless hatred and fear reflected in his eyes.
‘Why? Why does Your Highness look at me like that?’
Bai Ji felt a sudden disorientation, as if her bones had been drained from her body. She became utterly weak and powerless.
Gathering every ounce of courage and strength, Su Mu reached out and violently shoved Bai Ji away, roaring:
“Get out! Get out! Get out of here! I don’t want to see you!”
Bai Ji raised her head blankly, the light in her eyes slowly fading. His Highness was her everything, her entire world.
Now, her world had rejected her.
“Yes…”
Bai Ji’s heart was ashen. She took numb steps, her spirit broken, as she stumbled out of the bedchamber.
“Ding~”
“Master’s choice detected. Option One automatically triggered.”
On the screen, Option One automatically lit up. Then, the screen vanished from Su Mu’s sight.
However, Su Mu no longer had the energy to pay attention to such things. After enduring such inhumane torment and death, he wanted nothing more than to be left alone.
He was just an ordinary person; why should he suffer such things for no reason?
Su Mu buried his head in his knees, remaining motionless for a long time.
The maids below were at a loss. It was their first time witnessing His Highness argue with Lady Bai Ji, and their first time seeing their usually arrogant and overbearing Highness in such a pathetic and helpless state.
With Bai Ji gone, they were leaderless and unsure of what to do.
At this moment, the blonde maid, Jessica, stepped forward.
“You, and you, carry Nal’s body out. You, and you, clean up the bloodstains on the floor. Be gentle with your movements.”
“Yes.”
With their tasks assigned, they quickly sprang into action.
Jessica watched Su Mu on the bed, a cryptic glint flickering in her eyes.
Su Mu merely kept his head buried, trying to calm his emotions. Faint clattering sounds from the careful cleaning echoed in his ears.
He wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but gradually, the surroundings grew quiet. Only the occasional sound of a door opening could be heard.
After another period, a deadly silence enveloped him; not a single sound could be heard. Su Mu took a deep breath. His emotions had finally stabilized, and he slowly adapted to the fear and shadow of death.
‘What should I do now?’
Su Mu pondered this question, feeling somewhat lost. In this unfamiliar world, a single misstep could lead to his demise.
Although it seemed he could revive and reload, the suffocating pain of death was a very real torment to his spirit.
“Ugh, why did I have to transmigrate when I was just having a peaceful sleep at home?”
Su Mu complained about his miserable fate while stretching his stiff body, which had been curled up for too long. His psychological resilience was quite strong for an ordinary person.
Without excessive self-pity, and once his emotions had settled, he began to consider his next course of action. Every game had conditions for victory; gathering information and learning methods along the way were crucial for success, especially in story-driven games.
His last death must have been due to making the wrong choice. This time, he had made a completely different choice from before, but he had no idea what the outcome would be.
Su Mu felt uncertain, but he was already prepared to die again. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he reflected on the reason for his previous death.
‘Was it because my behavior was too different from the original owner? Did Bai Ji notice and become suspicious?’
He hadn’t expected this world to have a means of soul detection. It was incredibly difficult to act without suspicion when he knew absolutely nothing. ‘Useless system! You made me transmigrate without even forging a perfect identity or giving me memories. Bad review!’
Su Mu cursed the system thoroughly. The information he had so far included: he referred to Bai Ji as “Ah Bai”; he was usually unsmiling; and he disliked broccoli and pork chops. ‘Tsk, what a picky eater. Broccoli is so delicious…’
The information was pitifully scarce. Su Mu couldn’t help but sigh.
Suddenly, a chill swept over him. By the time Su Mu reacted, a cold blade was already pressed against his neck. Goosebumps erupted on his skin.
‘Who is trying to kill me again? Is it Bai Ji again?’
Su Mu was on the verge of tears. A strange voice came from behind him:
“Your Highness—”
Warm breath slowly drew near his cheek, and strands of hair brushed against his neck, tickling him. Su Mu glanced sideways from the corner of his eye.
It was an unfamiliar blonde woman. He frowned in confusion. He couldn’t recall ever interacting with this person. ‘Who the hell is this?’
‘Perhaps… one of the maids who had been kneeling downstairs? He remembered there was a blonde maid among them at the time.’
Su Mu’s reaction seemed to anger the woman.
“Your Highness, you seem quite puzzled. Do you perhaps remember the noble family you massacred five years ago at a banquet, simply because they momentarily neglected to prepare a seat for you?”
The woman’s voice was laced with resentment, brimming with fury.
“I don’t remember. Is there some misunderstanding?”
Su Mu struggled, feeling that if this continued, he wouldn’t escape death again.
“Heh, you don’t remember? Do you think a simple ‘I don’t remember’ can absolve you of your sins, or appease my blood-soaked vengeance? You beast!”
The blonde woman growled.
Su Mu rolled his eyes. ‘Damn it, it was the original owner’s sin, and now I have to take the blame again. How unfair.’
“What does that expression mean?! Do you really think I wouldn’t dare to kill you?!”
The blonde woman was enraged by Su Mu’s expression. Bristling, she instantly lost control, and her trembling hand pressed down. The sharp dagger instantly sliced open the artery in Su Mu’s neck.
“I didn’t—”
Su Mu felt a sudden chill on his neck, and just as a burning sensation flared, he lost consciousness once more.
