Chapter 23: A Walk, a Slap, and a Stubborn Princess

The weather today was clear, a gentle breeze stirring, perfect for a walk with the fox.

Su Mu, clad in a loose, azure-blue robe, stood motionless before the mirror.

Bai Ji, still dressed in her customary black, knelt before Su Mu, her hands deftly working at his waist. A sash, guided by her fingers, smoothly wove and intertwined around him.

Su Mu awkwardly held his head high, his body rigid. He dared not look at the girl kneeling before him in such a posture.

Since they were in his chambers, Bai Ji’s robe was also quite loose. From his vantage point, he could effortlessly glimpse an expanse of pristine white that made his blood surge.

Su Mu couldn’t help but think that, in some R18 games from his previous life, such a scene would undoubtedly be a CG event that would make players exclaim with delight.

Bai Ji skillfully tied the knot of the sash, signaling the completion of his dressing.

A small fox, perched on Su Mu’s head, watched his shyness with great interest.

“Your Highness, this is quite uncomfortable, isn’t it?”

Su Mu lifted his gaze, giving her a silent glare.

“If it were me, I’d make sure you were thoroughly comfortable before tying your sash, you know.”

The little fox tempted him.

“Is that so? Well, unfortunately, I don’t find small animals particularly interesting.”

Su Mu slightly adjusted his robe after Bai Ji finished, speaking casually.

“Hmph, you’re just being stubborn. It felt quite soft last time. What a pity, if only other parts were hard instead…”

Su Mu chose to ignore this creature whose mind was clearly filled with lewd thoughts. He raised his hand, and a silver chain materialized, appearing both on his hand and around the little fox’s neck.

“One hour of silence.”

As Su Mu’s words fell, the silver chain shimmered with a faint glow, and the little fox’s noisy chirping instantly ceased.

“Chirp, chirp, chirp!”

The little fox froze for a moment, then furiously grabbed a tuft of Su Mu’s hair, tugging upwards in a frantic protest.

Bai Ji’s gaze turned hostile as she looked at it.

She had just finished styling His Highness’s hair…

A shiver ran down the little fox’s spine as it noticed Bai Ji’s dangerous glare. Its actions stalled, and it immediately released its claws, gently smoothing down the hair it had disturbed.

Su Mu couldn’t help but chuckle. He tugged the chain, pulling the little fox down from his head.

The chain’s length adjusted accordingly, automatically extending to a suitable measure.

Su Mu couldn’t help but marvel at the convenience of magical artifacts.

Normally, when not in use, this contract chain would vanish, and the little fox could move freely. However, he could summon it at any time, automatically drawing the fox back to his side.

He recalled a time when Pera had ventured too far. Su Mu had simply summoned the chain, and the forceful pull nearly sent the little fox to an early grave.

Since that incident, Pera had never dared to stray too far from Su Mu again.

Su Mu held the chain, and the little fox instinctively began to walk outwards.

“I’m heading out.”

Bai Ji bowed behind him, saying, “May Your Highness enjoy your outing and stay safe.”

“Mm.”

Today, Bai Ji, for the first time, did not accompany Su Mu. According to her explanation, the King summoned the Grand Archmages and Sword Saints of the court for a concentrated meeting on this particular day each week to discuss various matters.

Although Bai Ji was nominally Su Mu’s personal attendant, her status as a Sword Saint still placed her under the jurisdiction of the royal court.

As for the specifics of their discussions, Bai Ji refused to elaborate, always lapsing into profound silence whenever questioned.

Su Mu didn’t dwell on it. He actually found it a bit bothersome to always have Bai Ji trailing him, as her perpetually low-pressure presence made it difficult to fully enjoy any outing. He was quite content to have one day a week to himself.

The paths of the royal palace were filled with the songs of birds and the fragrance of flowers, as if the beautiful blossoming season would never wither.

Su Mu had learned from books that the Miston Kingdom, due to its vast territorial expanse, boasted a rich diversity of climates. The royal capital, North City, located in the southern part of the kingdom, enjoyed perfect timing and geographical advantages, with mild winters and cool summers, making it perpetually spring-like. It was thus known as the City of Spring.

Since arriving in this world and settling down, Su Mu’s favorite pastime had been to tease his pet fox daily and then wander through the royal palace. After all, there were no electronic devices from his previous life to entertain him here. Without them, staying in his chambers all day would only lead to boredom, and gradually, his ‘shut-in’ tendencies naturally faded.

Su Mu felt very relaxed.

This life of being waited on hand and foot was nothing short of paradise for Su Mu, who had once been a busy office worker constantly on the go. If he could completely escape the threat of death, he would gladly live here indefinitely.

“Susumu?”

Suddenly, a displeased exclamation came from ahead.

Su Mu looked over.

A silver-haired beautiful girl, dressed in a white dress, frowned at him from beneath a lace parasol held by her attendant.

“Good morning.”

Su Mu offered a gentle smile and greeted her.

It was strange; why did he always seem to run into his ‘cheap’ younger sister every time he came out for a walk lately? How many times had this happened? It was too much of a coincidence.

“Hmph! Susumu, are you stalking me?”

Linna lifted her delicate face, asking imperiously.

Su Mu chuckled, “Why would you think that?”

“Otherwise, why do I always run into you, you annoying fellow, every time I come out?”

Linna retorted without hesitation.

Su Mu raised an eyebrow, smiling somewhat helplessly. This little girl certainly had a sharp tongue…

Yet, for some reason, he couldn’t muster even a hint of anger. In the past, if such a spoiled and reckless girl dared to speak to him like that, he would have long since delivered a ‘fist of justice’. Now, facing Linna, he actually found it rather amusing. Perhaps this was the unique influence of the word ‘sister’.

“Why couldn’t it be you who’s stalking me?”

Su Mu teased with a light chuckle.

Linna instantly bristled, stomping her foot and exclaiming loudly, “H-h-how could that be? How could I, ugh…”

Mid-sentence, she suddenly covered her mouth, her eyes welling up with tears. Su Mu laughed dumbfounded; it seemed she had bitten her tongue in her nervousness.

As he spoke, he was slowly walking forward. Now only a few steps away from young Linna, seeing the girl’s tearful, pitiful expression, Su Mu was suddenly overcome with a strong urge. He wanted to pat her head and comfort her.

He stepped forward, gently extending his hand—

“Stop!”

A sheathed sword blocked Su Mu’s path. A young attendant from behind Linna stepped out, saying coldly, “Please do not approach Her Royal Highness!”

Uh…

Su Mu hadn’t expected anyone to dare block him. He awkwardly retracted his hand from mid-air. He had almost forgotten about his original body’s infamous reputation. Normally, with Bai Ji’s intimidating presence, he had never encountered such a situation, making him forget this detail.

Just then, a group of young nobles, lords and ladies visiting the capital, passed by. Seeing this scene, they couldn’t help but slow their steps, casting mocking glances.

The little fox watched the spectacle with relish, showing no intention of helping to resolve the situation. ‘A bunch of damn idiots, what are you looking at?’ Su Mu cursed inwardly, but maintained a stiff smile on the surface.

Just as he was about to brush them off and quickly leave, Linna pushed aside the attendant blocking her, her face as grim as if covered in thick frost.

“Your Highness, please stay behind me. I will never allow this rude fellow to approach—”

“Slap!”

A crisp sound of a slap echoed. Linna, putting all her strength into it, slapped him fiercely across the face, cutting short his unfinished sentence.

The young attendant was stunned. He hadn’t expected the Princess, who was always kind to her subordinates, to suddenly strike him.

“Rhein!”

Linna’s eyes were filled with fury as she enunciated each word, “Who gave you the audacity to interfere in my affairs?”

The young attendant, named Rhein, lowered his head, remaining silent.

“I don’t want to see you again.”

Linna lowered her slightly trembling hand, delivering the final ultimatum in an icy voice.

The young attendant’s face turned pale, and he stood rooted to the spot.

Su Mu was dumbfounded when he saw Linna slap the attendant. He hadn’t expected this little girl, who outwardly seemed to despise him so much, to actually stand up for him.

Noticing Su Mu’s surprised gaze, Linna quickly reacted, saying, “You-you misunderstand! I wasn’t sticking up for you! It’s just that, that guy was overstepping his bounds, and I just happened to teach him a lesson.”

“Yes, yes, of course, I understand. Thank you.”

Su Mu flashed a happy smile.

“I told you, it-it wasn’t… Hmph, never mind. Good morning, and goodbye.”

Linna lifted her proud little head and left with her attendants, leaving Rhein standing motionless. As Linna passed Su Mu, he distinctly saw a blush of cherry red on the little girl’s earlobes.

Su Mu chuckled softly, then instantly dropped his smile, adopting the domineering, cold demeanor of a prince. His icy gaze swept over the noble youths, his low, chilling voice resonating: “Have you seen enough, everyone?”

The group scattered in fright.

Su Mu scoffed, curling his lip in disdain. However, he didn’t notice that Linna, now only a retreating back, suddenly trembled violently.
