Ling Guang’s gaze swept over Bai Ji’s collar and the sword at her hip. He spoke with righteous indignation.
“I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand. Just remember this: if I could kill you once, I can kill you again.”
The greatsword hanging from Ling Guang’s waist clanged ominously, its presence intimidating.
Bai Ji remained silent.
“What are you all dawdling for?”
Su Mu, having noticed the confrontation unfolding, interjected.
Bai Ji didn’t linger. She quickly moved to Su Mu’s side.
“I can’t believe Sir Ling Guang is so outrageous! How could he insult Susumu Miston like that!”
Beside them, Katusha fumed, muttering under her breath.
As Su Mu calmed down, a rough understanding began to dawn on him.
Yesterday, upon learning he would be assisting with the investigation, Ling Guang likely sent someone to inquire about his past deeds immediately.
It seemed Ling Guang was now thoroughly familiar with all of Su Mu’s past notoriety.
It was no wonder Ling Guang’s attitude towards him was so hostile today.
Yet, Su Mu felt it was irrelevant. He harbored no fondness for this so-called Royal Judgment Army or its knights either.
Su Mu examined the corpses before him. He noticed a faint, slender cut on each of their necks, precisely severing the carotid artery.
Beyond these injuries, there were no other wounds.
‘What a ruthless hand,’ Su Mu thought.
A faint smile played on Su Mu’s lips as he looked at Ling Guang and inquired,
“Sir Knight, have you ascertained the identities of these individuals?”
Ling Guang hesitated for a moment before producing a notebook from his embrace and handing it to Su Mu.
Su Mu opened it to find detailed records of each deceased person’s identity.
How much time had passed since the bodies were discovered?
To have investigated their identities so thoroughly in such a short span of time was truly impressive.
The strongest Judgment Knight in the kingdom certainly lived up to his reputation.
“Impressive,” Su Mu remarked, not stinting on his praise. As he perused the information in the small notebook, he discovered that most of these ‘yellow-haired’ individuals were not ordinary street thugs but rather Bronze-ranked adventurers registered with the Adventurer’s Guild.
‘Heh, interesting,’ he mused.
The crucial information was now in his hands.
Su Mu closed the notebook and returned it to Ling Guang. He asked playfully, “Well, Sir Knight, with all this information, have you discovered who murdered these people?”
Ling Guang remained silent for a moment before replying, “I have.”
“Oh? Is that so? Do tell?”
“Your Highness, the murderer of these people is you!”
Ling Guang’s declaration instantly stunned everyone present.
Katusha, incensed, jumped forward and yelled, “Ling Guang, don’t you dare slander him with such baseless accusations!”
Su Mu chuckled, pulling back the red-faced Katusha. “It seems our Sir Knight has lost his mind. Do you truly believe someone of my small stature could so cleanly and efficiently kill this group of adventurers?”
“Your Highness, you know what I mean!”
Ling Guang suppressed his fury, his gaze sweeping towards Bai Ji behind Su Mu.
According to his investigation, all clues regarding the murderer pointed directly to the Second Prince before him.
To have so brutally slaughtered so many people at once—just how vicious was his true nature?
For Ling Guang, who held justice and righteousness dear, this was absolutely intolerable.
This was precisely why Ling Guang’s attitude towards Su Mu had taken such an abrupt and hostile turn today.
“Oh~ so you believe it was my A’Bai who killed them?”
Su Mu nodded in ‘sudden realization,’ then looked at Bai Ji with a smile. “A’Bai, someone suspects you. Tell me, did you do it?”
Bai Ji lowered her gaze and obediently shook her head. “Your Highness, it wasn’t me.”
“Sir Ling Guang, did you hear that? My A’Bai says it wasn’t them.”
Su Mu slipped his hands into his pockets, idly toying with a ring.
“Your Highness, lying is not good.”
“Heh, so you’re convinced I’m the killer, are you?”
Su Mu took two steps forward, closing the distance to Ling Guang’s armor. A smirk played on his lips as he whispered, “Radiant Knight Ling Guang, to wantonly accuse a prince without evidence—you should carefully consider the consequences of such an act.”
Ling Guang frowned, stepping back two paces to create distance between them. He stated coldly, “I have evidence.”
Su Mu paused, clearly unconvinced. He said,
“Oh? Do enlighten me.”
“The wounds on these deceased individuals were all inflicted by a single sword strike to the neck, severing the carotid artery—a fatal blow. Such incisive swordsmanship is rare throughout the capital, and coincidentally, your attendant is one of the very few capable of it. I have sparred with Bai Ji in the past; I am intimately familiar with their techniques.”
Su Mu maintained his smile. “Similar swordsmanship alone hardly constitutes evidence.”
“Furthermore, I noticed just now that Bai Ji’s sword is damp and covered in water. This must be from them washing away bloodstains after the killing.”
Su Mu’s smile faltered, his lips straightening. He remained silent.
Katusha and Roland, who had initially refused to believe Su Mu would order Bai Ji to kill the thugs, became deeply concerned when they saw Su Mu’s tense expression, as if his secret had been exposed.
‘Could it truly have been Su Mu’s doing?’ they wondered.
Ling Guang pressed his advantage. “The third piece of evidence is Bai Ji’s upturned collar. Through the fabric, a faint dark mark is barely visible. If I’m not mistaken, it’s meant to conceal bloodstains that accidentally got on their clothes, isn’t it?”
Su Mu’s expression grew heavy, though he stubbornly argued, “These are merely your imaginative conjectures; they hardly qualify as evidence.”
Seeing Su Mu’s demeanor, Ling Guang saw no need to elaborate further. He had already resolved to report these matters to His Majesty and request severe punishment for the Second Prince.
“Your Highness, as the Royal Knights’ Captain, I cannot convict you. However, this does not mean you can act with impunity. Justice will prevail one day. Please conduct yourself accordingly.”
Ling Guang’s condescending attitude caused Su Mu to burst into laughter, unable to hold back.
“Hahaha, I am guilty? Are these thuggish ruffians not guilty? They injured innocent merchants, smashed shops, and caused chaos. Are they truly innocent?”
Ling Guang regarded this as Su Mu’s desperate last struggle and calmly stated, “As adventurers, they were merely fulfilling their duties by accepting a quest. How could they be guilty? Even if, for argument’s sake, they were truly guilty, they should have been handed over to the Judgment Army for further review, not wantonly slaughtered by you.”
Su Mu spat in annoyance. “Heh, what a ridiculous ‘innocence of the sword’ argument. It’s laughable.”
He took two steps forward, his dark eyes locking with Ling Guang’s golden ones.
At such close proximity, an absurd thought surged through Su Mu’s mind: ‘Ling Guang’s delicate face is quite handsome.’
Su Mu reached out and pinched Ling Guang’s chin, hidden beneath his armor, his mischievous eyes brazenly scrutinizing him.
Ling Guang felt profoundly insulted. He angrily slapped Su Mu’s hand away, his wide eyes seemingly capable of murder.
Su Mu belatedly remembered that Ling Guang was a man. He let out a scoff and declared,
“Now, I shall show you just how laughable your so-called evidence truly is!”
