Chapter 49: The Princess’s Wrath and Whispers of a Changed Prince

Laura’s words instantly established her as the superior in the confrontation.

Those noble young ladies, accustomed to their lofty positions, had never endured such an affront. Incensed, they were about to step forward and teach this impudent bumpkin a lesson.

Just then, the encircling crowd fell silent, parting automatically to form a narrow path.

Princess Linna appeared before everyone.

“What’s all this commotion about? Such a fierce argument?”

Linna’s soft, gentle voice, though devoid of any obvious threat, silenced the young ladies below, none daring to utter a sound.

She slowly advanced through the human corridor.

Today, Linna wore a light yellow camisole beneath a loose, pink, half-sleeved cage dress. Below the short skirt, a pair of adorable white-socked calves peeked out, subtly revealing the tender skin between the white socks and the pink hem.

All eyes were drawn to the girl.

Despite her simple, casual attire, the girl exuded a noble, enviable aura.

“Laura, Furei, what are you two arguing about?”

Linna asked, her expression unreadable.

Still fuming, Furei immediately replied, “Your Royal Highness, the Saintess wore the jewelry and dress given to her by the Second Prince, yet claimed she bought them herself. I was merely speaking up for the Second Prince, so I voiced my grievances…”

“Ah, ah, that’s enough, that’s enough.”

Linna abruptly cut Furei off, walking directly towards Laura. She scrutinized the stunningly dressed Saintess and asked, “Did Susumu give these to you?”

Laura calmly lowered her gaze. “No, I bought them myself.”

“Oh.”

Linna immediately lost interest and turned to leave.

Seeing Linna so readily believe Laura’s words, Furei grew anxious and quickly interjected, “Your Royal Highness, Laura is absolutely lying! She—”

Linna’s icy gaze swept over Furei, forcing her words back down her throat.

“Miss Furei Yuri, if you are here to disrupt my tea party and ruin everyone’s enjoyment, then I believe you need not attend again in the future.”

Furei’s face paled. She had never imagined that the Princess, who usually ignored the Saintess, would speak up for such a commoner today.

Panic seized her.

Princess Linna’s tea party was the largest social circle for noble young ladies in the capital. If she were truly stripped of her qualification to attend, she would undoubtedly become the laughingstock of the capital’s aristocracy.

More importantly, her father, Count Yuri, would undoubtedly punish her severely.

Furei quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, Your Royal Highness, I was presumptuous. I beg your forgiveness, please give me another chance!”

Linna stared at Furei, then suddenly recalled something. Her previously indifferent attitude shifted to anger.

“You… Last time, before the tea party, when I was speaking with Susumu, a group of noble young ladies passed by and openly mocked Susumu. If I recall correctly, you were the leader of that group, weren’t you?”

Furei’s expression froze, and the words of plea caught in her throat.

The few young ladies who had been ‘close’ to her had already subtly distanced themselves.

At this moment, she stood utterly alone in the crowd.

Linna scoffed, a cold smile playing on her lips. “It seems my memory serves me right, Miss Yuri. You may leave. My garden will no longer welcome you.”

“No, Your Highness, no, it’s not like that! I had no intention of mocking you. I was merely laughing at the Second Prince. Didn’t we often criticize his improper conduct in the past? You should understand me!”

Linna’s face darkened, her fists clenched tightly.

Seeing her expression, everyone lowered their heads, not daring to meet her gaze.

They knew that the Princess, who rarely became angry, was truly furious today.

Furei’s words died in her throat; she realized she had misspoken. Watching Linna, whose face was terrifying, advance towards her step by step, she couldn’t help but swallow hard.

Snap!

A crisp sound echoed.

Linna decisively slapped Furei across the face.

A distinct, light red palm print was left behind.

“Susumu—I can curse him a thousand, ten thousand times, but I absolutely forbid any of you from speaking ill of him, understand?”

Linna gritted her teeth.

These words were not only directed at Furei but at all the noble young ladies present.

After her outburst, Linna’s emotions calmed.

Disinclined to look at the disheveled Furei, she directly addressed the attendant behind her, “Please escort Miss Furei out. From now on, she is not welcome here.”

“Yes.”

Furei was led away by the attendant, bringing the farce to an end.

Linna returned to the main seat of the tea party, a serene smile gracing her lips, and announced,

“Now, the tea party officially begins. I hope everyone will not let other matters spoil their enjoyment, and instead, fully savor the beauty of this spring day.”

Under Linna’s lead, the atmosphere of the tea party gradually livened up once more.

Laura, as usual, found a quiet corner, silently savoring the delicious pastries prepared for the tea party.

Mya, meanwhile, had gone with other friends to admire the flowers elsewhere.

Laura rested her chin in her hand, slowly chewing the biscuit in her mouth. Her gaze drifted aimlessly, a worrying matter occupying her thoughts. Even her favorite pastry now tasted somewhat bland.

Why had her precious puppet suddenly grown hot yesterday morning?

Could something have gone wrong with Susumu?

Yet, the curse mark remained stable and perfectly intact, so it shouldn’t be a malfunction of the curse.

She had spent an entire day researching yesterday but found no explanation.

Although the puppet had returned to normal afterward, the incident still left Laura feeling uneasy.

As she was lost in thought, the girls’ chatter suddenly drifted into her ears, catching her attention:

“That Furei always acts so arrogant and superior. She finally got her comeuppance today, it’s truly satisfying!”

“Exactly! And she dared to badmouth the Second Prince right in front of Lady Linna. She was practically asking for trouble.”

“Speaking of which, don’t you all feel that Lady Linna and the Second Prince have become much closer recently?”

“Have they? Is that just a misconception? How could that fierce prince make anyone feel close? Lady Linna protecting him is probably just her protecting the royal family’s reputation.”

“Haven’t you heard the rumors about the Second Prince’s amnesia? Perhaps because of his amnesia, his personality improved, and that’s why their sibling relationship grew closer.”

“The Second Prince’s personality improved? Ha, how could that be?”

The girl became animated, drawing her friends into a tight huddle and lowering her voice. “Let me tell you, never provoke the Second Prince. On my way to the tea party today, I passed by his bedchamber, and do you know what I heard?”

“What?”

“Screams! Continuous screams. Just hearing them sent shivers down my spine. It must be that cruel Second Prince torturing his servants again. He used to love doing that…”

In her corner, Laura frowned upon hearing this news.

In her memory, the amnesiac Susumu was a terrifyingly gentle person. How could he commit such brutal acts?

In another corner, Linna, who had also happened to overhear the girls’ conversation and was secretly listening, likewise frowned.

A thought arose simultaneously and coincidentally in both their minds:

‘Could Susumu have recovered his memories?!’
