She thought to herself, ‘So you’re… the system?’
Qiansui paused, then their voice suddenly rose:
“Right! I’m your system!”
“That one… the one from the song ‘System Brother, System Sister’!”
Su Yutao was stunned.
A system?
This little thing was a system?!
She subconsciously looked at the wet, squashed penguin in her hand.
Then she thought about how clumsy it had seemed just moments ago.
A thought couldn’t help but pop into her head—
‘You… don’t seem very smart, do you?’
Qiansui fell silent again.
Then, with dissatisfaction:
“Hey… I heard that…”
Su Yutao hurriedly covered her head—even though she couldn’t cover her thoughts.
Qiansui let out a “hmph”:
“What do you mean I’m not smart? My master is a first-level system, Qianxia! I’m the most perfect original template!”
Su Yutao thought about how just now they had forgotten to say their own name.
Then she thought about how they had been attached to a broken penguin, waiting in a garbage dump for days.
Another thought couldn’t help but pop into her head—
‘The most perfect template… and this is it?’
Qiansui fell completely silent.
After a few seconds, a small mutter came through:
“Well… it’s mainly because my master didn’t finish teaching me…”
“She said for the first mission, I don’t need to be too powerful… just give it a try…”
“Who knew you’d be so dangerous… caught in the rain, getting into fights, bitten by a dog…”
Su Yutao: …
So you’re a novice?
A novice who just came off the assembly line, who hasn’t even finished reading the manual?
Qiansui muttered softly:
“What’s wrong with being a novice? Novices can be strong too… once I learn how to get into your head…”
Su Yutao listened to their muttering, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
She had waited so long.
Hoped so long.
And in the end, she got a novice.
A novice attached to a broken penguin doll, who had even forgotten to say their own name.
But still, she held the wet, squashed penguin tightly.
Qiansui was taken aback:
“You… you don’t despise me?”
Su Yutao shook her head.
Qiansui was silent for a moment.
Then their voice carried a hint of happiness:
“Then it’s settled!”
“Once I learn, I’ll definitely help you!”
“My master is a first-level system, Qianxia! I’m sure I’ll be amazing too!”
Su Yutao nodded.
The hot water was still running.
Holding the system penguin named Qiansui, she stood in the bathroom.
Her scalded fingers still throbbed with pain.
But her heart didn’t feel as cold anymore.
Clumsy as it was.
At least it had come.
She wasn’t alone anymore.
The hot water poured over her, warm.
Su Yutao held the wet, squashed penguin under the stream, her mind still processing what had just happened.
A system.
She really had a system.
Even if it was a clumsy one, that forgot to say its name, attached to a broken penguin.
But it had come.
She wasn’t alone.
“Hey…” Qiansui’s voice came from her embrace, soft and cute, “How much longer are you going to wash? I feel like I’m about to give out…”
Su Yutao snapped back to reality and quickly turned off the water.
She fumbled for a towel—the one Lin Qingxue had left on the rack, large and soft.
She wrapped herself in the towel, from neck to ankle.
Then she picked up Qiansui.
Wet.
Squashed.
Cotton was falling out through the tear.
She tried to stuff the cotton back in, but couldn’t; touching it only made more fall out.
“Hey, hey, hey… stop touching…” Qiansui muttered softly, “It tickles…”
Su Yutao stopped.
She fumbled to open the bathroom door.
Walked out.
In the living room, Mole was lounging on the sofa, scrolling through his phone.
Hearing the door open, he looked up—
Then his gaze paused.
Su Yutao stood at the bathroom door, wrapped in nothing but a white towel.
In her arms, she held that dirty, broken penguin—wet, squashed, its cotton almost completely fallen out, still dripping water.
Mole’s eyes lingered on her for a second.
Then he looked away.
He stood up, his voice flat:
“Where are your clothes? I’ll get them for you.”
Su Yutao pointed towards the bedroom.
Mole headed for the bedroom, took two steps, then turned back, looking at the broken penguin in her arms:
“And that broken doll of yours, you really should throw it away. Look, the stuffing is almost all gone. Why are you holding it? Oh, right, you can’t see.”
Su Yutao shook her head, hugging the penguin tighter.
Mole squinted.
He walked back.
Reached out—
The first time, he grabbed directly for the penguin.
Su Yutao pulled back, dodging.
Mole raised an eyebrow.
He reached out again, faster this time.
Su Yutao tried to dodge, but was a beat too slow—her hand touched the edge of the penguin but didn’t grasp it.
Mole had already seized the penguin’s head.
He pulled outward.
Su Yutao pulled inward.
The two began to tug.
Su Yutao hugged the penguin’s body with all her might, letting out a muffled “mmph,” her whole body straining.
She couldn’t see, but she knew she couldn’t let go—if she did, it would be gone.
Mole frowned.
This little blind girl was surprisingly strong?
He increased his strength and yanked hard.
The penguin stretched out, and Su Yutao stumbled forward a step, but she still didn’t let go.
Cotton fell from the tear.
Su Yutao couldn’t hear Qiansui’s voice—with the penguin being pulled, she couldn’t fully hold it, the contact intermittent.
But she could feel that what she was holding was getting lighter.
She panicked.
Using all her strength, she pulled back.
Mole didn’t expect her sudden burst of power, and his hand slipped—
The penguin was snatched back by Su Yutao.
Su Yutao hugged the penguin, backing up until she hit the wall.
She pressed the penguin tightly against her chest, curling into a ball, letting out muffled “mmph mmph” sounds, like a small animal protecting its young.
Mole looked at his empty hand, then at Su Yutao curled up in the corner.
He was taken aback.
Then he laughed.
Not a real laugh.
It was that kind of “interesting” laugh.
He walked over.
Su Yutao heard footsteps approaching and curled up even tighter.
Mole crouched down.
He looked at the little blind girl curled into a ball, wrapped in only a towel, wet hair plastered to her face, holding that broken penguin, trembling all over.
But he knew she wasn’t scared.
She was protecting it.
Mole reached out—
This time, he didn’t pull.
He directly pressed down on the penguin, then yanked it inward.
Su Yutao didn’t react in time; the penguin was already snatched away.
Her hands were empty.
She froze.
Then she went crazy.
She lunged forward, her hands flailing in the air, letting out sharp, urgent “mmph” sounds, throwing herself towards Mole’s direction.
But Mole had already stood up.
He took a step back.
Su Yutao missed.
She got up and lunged again.
Missed again.
Once more.
Missed again.
Qiansui wasn’t in her hands.
She couldn’t hear any prompts.
All she could do was flail in the darkness, like a headless fly.
The “mmph” sounds grew more frantic, more aggrieved, carrying a sob—though no tears could fall.
Mole stood there, watching the little blind girl crawl and flail on the floor, whimpering, the rims of her eyes red with anxiety.
He looked down at the penguin in his hand.
Wet.
Squashed.
Cotton falling out.
Ugly as hell.
He frowned.
Just as he was about to say something—
“Knock, knock, knock!”
Suddenly, a knock at the door.
Both of them froze.
Su Yutao’s ears perked up.
Mole turned his head towards the door.
In that instant, Su Yutao sprang up from the floor and lunged at him.
She didn’t know where Mole was, but she followed the sound—over there.
She pounced.
Her hands touched something—an arm.
She felt up the arm and touched—the penguin.
She grabbed it tightly.
Mole, caught off guard by her lunge, instinctively stepped back.
But Su Yutao held on too tightly, her whole body hanging from his arm.
He shook it once.
Didn’t shake her off.
Shook again.
Still couldn’t shake her off.
