Join the ServerShe put away the knife and turned to walk out.
Her high heels clicked against the floor. Tap, tap, tap.
At the door, she stopped and said without looking back:
“Handle the cleanup yourself. You’re just a kid. Go back to school. This isn’t for you.”
She left.
The footsteps faded.
Luo Xiaoning collapsed on the floor, trembling all over. It took her a long time to recover.
She got up, her legs still weak, and held onto the wall to walk out of the bathroom.
Outside, bodies lay scattered everywhere. The boss’s head was twisted to the side, a deep gash across his neck.
Blood pooled on the floor, dark and glossy under the light.
Luo Xiaoning covered her mouth, almost throwing up.
She ran out of that place, onto the street, and crouched by the roadside to vomit for a long time.
Later, she went back to ask around in the organization, trying to find out who else was on the same mission today.
Someone told her it was one of the top three Executors, codename “Double Face.” They heard she was very tall, very cold, and never failed a mission.
Luo Xiaoning asked, what’s her name? The person said, don’t know, everyone calls her “Sister Lin.”
Luo Xiaoning asked again, does she especially like wearing a black trench coat?
The person said, don’t know, but she wears black on missions.
“And who the hell are you? Do I know you? I’m just passing by. Why do you think I know anything?”
Luo Xiaoning didn’t dare ask further and ran off. That person was someone she’d grabbed at random.
But she remembered that face, those cold eyes. It was really cool.
She felt her heart flutter.
How could a girl be so cool?
Her face suddenly turned red, her voice dropped, with a hint of shyness she couldn’t explain:
“…Lin, Lin Xue? Are you talking about that Lin Xue?”
The man grunted.
– Mission is to stay at her place for a few days.
– Monitor her condition. She’s about to carry out a very covert operation.
– Keep an eye on her, make sure she’s in top form and not distracted by anything else.
– The higher-ups will arrange a legitimate reason for you to go as a temporary lodger.
– Specific requirements will be sent to your phone later.
Luo Xiaoning sat on the bed, her hair a mess, face still red, mouth open, not knowing what to say.
The person on the other end didn’t seem to expect a reply and hung up.
The beeping sound came from the receiver. Luo Xiaoning snapped back to reality, slowly lowered her phone, and stared at the screen.
Then she suddenly fell backward, landing on the bed, buried her face in the pillow, and let out a muffled scream.
At the same moment, on the other side of the city.
The man who had called Luo Xiaoning hung up. He took off his headset and placed it on the desk.
He leaned back in his chair, swiveled half a turn to face a colleague who was sorting files.
His voice carried a relaxed smile, as if telling a joke:
“Alright, it’s done.”
“That fool went off happily.”
The colleague didn’t look up, continuing to organize files. “All set?”
“Yeah.”
The man crossed his legs, picked up a cigarette from the table, put it in his mouth, but didn’t light it.
“The higher-ups will arrange a legitimate reason for her to stay at Lin Xue’s place for a few days.”
“Anyway, this surveillance is just a formality. Who would actually dare to monitor her?”
He snorted, took the cigarette out, and twirled it between his fingers.
“If she really gets pissed off, you’d die without even knowing how.”
The colleague finally looked up.
“Lin Xue is unpredictable.”
“If she’s unhappy, she tends to kill people.”
He paused, a trace of doubt.
“Are you not afraid that fool won’t come back?”
The man put the cigarette back in his mouth and said vaguely, “That’s why I sent her.”
“That fool won’t notice anything, and she won’t make Lin Xue unhappy. She’s just there to fill a quota.”
“The higher-ups want a report; we give one. Lin Xue knows the drill. She won’t trouble a moron.”
“Besides, an Executor attacking another Executor is subject to enforcement.”
“And I heard from a relative of a relative that Lin Xue has serious backing. Even if she actually kills that little moron, the worst she’ll get is a ten-thousand-word self-criticism.”
The colleague thought for a moment and said, “Come on, ten thousand words is too much for her.”
“I heard Lin Xue never even went to school. I guess they’ll just send her on an A-rank mission instead.”
The dispatcher laughed.
“A-rank mission, my ass. Lin Xue has done plenty of those. I heard she’s about to do a national mission, the level hasn’t even been disclosed.”
“And anyway, that little moron is a nobody. If she dies, she dies. How can she compare to a top Executor like Lin Xue? The higher-ups know the difference.”
He lit the cigarette, took a drag, and blew out a puff of white smoke.
“Besides, I heard that moron worships Lin Xue like crazy. She’ll be more than happy to go.”
The colleague shook his head and went back to sorting files. “Fine, you’re in charge. You’re her dispatcher.”
The man leaned back in his chair, crossed his legs, and stared out the window at the night.
Moonlight streamed in, landing on his face. He squinted, blowing a smoke ring.
The smoke slowly dissipated into the air.
Just then, “Bang!” The office door burst open, slammed against the wall, and made a loud noise.
The smoking man’s hand jerked, and the cigarette fell onto his pants, burning a yellow hole.
Ignoring it, he looked up at the door.
A squad of special forces, dressed in black combat uniforms, helmets, and carrying automatic rifles, filed in. Their movements were synchronized, like a precision machine.
Their gun muzzles pointed down, but their fingers were on the trigger guards, ready to raise and fire at any moment.
They quickly took positions around the room: by the door, windows, both sides of the desk, forming a textbook CQB encirclement.
The leading man was about 1.9 meters tall, wearing a black mask that revealed only his eyes, cold as nails.
He glanced at the tablet in his hand, then at the man behind the desk, and spoke quietly into his earpiece: “Target confirmed.”
Two special forces soldiers rushed in from both sides, each grabbing one of the smoking man’s arms, lifting him out of the chair.
The movement was lightning fast. Before the man could react, he was held in the air, his feet dangling.
His cigarette slid off his pants and fell to the floor, still smoking.
He struggled, legs kicking, voice shrill and urgent.
“What the hell? What are you doing?! I work for a state agency! Why are you arresting me?! This is opposing the state!”
“And I have connections above! Watch out, they’ll come down on you!”
His face flushed red, glasses askew, shirt collar torn open, revealing a thin gold chain.
The leading man walked over, looked down at him, and said calmly, like reading an official document.
“That’s right, we haven’t got the wrong person.”
“You’re under arrest for leaking state secrets.”
He paused, pulled a folded paper from his pocket, unfolded it, and waved it in front of the smoking man.
It was an arrest warrant, stamped with a bright red seal, and signed with a name.
“And those relatives you mentioned, we’ve caught them too. Perfect timing for a reunion.”
