The little blind girl clung to his arm like an octopus, whimpering, refusing to let go.

Mole frowned.

He lifted his arm—

Su Yutao was carried up entirely, her feet leaving the ground.

But she still wouldn’t let go.

The towel loosened from her violent movement.

It slipped from her chest.

Just then—

“Bang!”

The door was kicked open.

Shen Nian stood at the entrance, holding up her phone.

The phone’s camera was pointed directly at the room.

And on the screen, there was a video call.

On the other end, Lin Qingxue’s face.

Shen Nian was about to shout, “Xiaoxue, let me check on the little mute,” but before the words could leave her mouth—

She saw it.

Su Yutao, naked, hanging on Mole’s arm.

The towel lay on the ground.

Mole held a broken penguin in one hand.

Shen Nian’s mind buzzed.

On the other end of the call.

In a certain safe place.

Lin Qingxue—the one from that night—stared at the screen.

Her pupils contracted sharply.

Just for a moment.

But in that moment, she saw everything.

Her little blind girl.

Naked.

Hanging on Zhou Ye’s arm.

Zhou Ye.

That waste.

That moron who couldn’t even complete a task.

That—in front of her disguised identity—a suitor who had been ingratiating himself.

Now he had her little blind girl like this.

And, through Shen Nian’s video, there was a chance that her daytime self might also see it.

If her daytime self saw this, what would she think?

She’d become suspicious, wouldn’t she?

She’d ask, wouldn’t she?

Wouldn’t that shatter the delicate balance she had meticulously maintained?

And—that fool Zhou Ye, did he know what he was doing?

Lin Qingxue’s fingers slowly tightened.

Gripping the phone.

Knuckles turning white.

But when she spoke, her voice was still gentle and soft, just like usual:

“Niannian? What’s wrong? I see… is the little mute okay?”

In that voice, there was the slightest tremor.

But Shen Nian didn’t notice.

She just quickly said:

“Xiaoxue, um… don’t panic, let me handle this!”

Then she turned the phone toward herself, not letting Lin Qingxue see the scene any longer.

“Click!”

A photo.

“Click!”

Another one.

Shen Nian said into the phone:

“Xiaoxue, wait for me, I’ll call you right back!”

Then she ended the video.

On the other end of the phone.

Lin Qingxue stared at the black screen.

She was silent for a long time.

Then she let out a soft laugh.

Very soft.

Very faint.

As cold as rain.

“Zhou Ye.”

She whispered the name.

Her fingers squeezed the phone, and a crack appeared on it.

Wait until I get back.

Over here.

Shen Nian hung up, glared at Mole, her eyes practically blazing:

“Zhou Ye! What the hell are you doing?!”

Mole—Zhou Ye—his face turned green:

“Shen Nian! Let me explain!”

But Shen Nian ignored him.

She strode over, shoved Zhou Ye aside, took off her own jacket, and wrapped it around Su Yutao.

“It’s okay, it’s okay, don’t be scared!”

Su Yutao curled up in her arms, trembling all over.

But she still reached out a hand, pointing in Mole’s direction—no, pointing at the penguin in his hand.

“Wuwu.”

Shen Nian glanced at that broken penguin.

Then at Zhou Ye.

Then at Su Yutao’s anxious expression.

She took a deep breath.

“You want that?”

Su Yutao nodded frantically.

Shen Nian stood up, walked over to Zhou Ye, and extended her hand:

“Give it.”

Zhou Ye’s face was still green:

“This thing really needs to be thrown away…”

Shen Nian glared at him, her gaze murderous:

“Give it!”

Zhou Ye handed over the penguin.

Shen Nian took it, looked at it—wet, deflated, cotton spilling out, ugly as sin.

She frowned.

But still turned and shoved the penguin into Su Yutao’s arms.

The moment Su Yutao’s hands touched the wet fur—

“Wuwuwu… you scared me to death…” That soft, adorable voice rang out again, laced with tears, “I thought he was going to throw me away… I thought I’d never see you again…”

Su Yutao’s whole body relaxed.

She hugged it even tighter.

Burying her face in the wet fur.

Qiansui was still here.

Not lost.

Shen Nian looked at her like that and sighed again.

“Just wait for me.”

She pulled out her phone and dialed a video call.

The other end picked up instantly.

Lin Qingxue’s face appeared on the screen, still gentle and soft.

Shen Nian took a deep breath:

“Xiaoxue, I’m taking the little mute away. When will you be back?”

Lin Qingxue was taken aback:

“Take her away? What’s wrong?”

Shen Nian glanced at Zhou Ye and lowered her voice:

“That Zhou Ye, I don’t think he’s reliable. Do you still have the keys to the house? What if he does something else…”

She didn’t finish, but the meaning was clear.

There was a second of silence on the other end.

Then Lin Qingxue’s voice came through, still gentle, but with something extra:

“You’re right. Staying at home isn’t safe.”

A pause.

“Especially that Zhou Ye.”

Shen Nian nodded:

“Exactly. When you get back, give him a good lesson.”

Lin Qingxue let out a soft laugh:

“Mm, we’ll talk when I get back.”

When Zhou Ye heard this from the side, his face turned pale.

He rushed over and snatched the phone from Shen Nian’s hand.

Shen Nian didn’t even react in time.

“Zhou Ye, you—”

But Zhou Ye was already speaking into the phone, his voice stammering:

“X-Xiaoxue, it’s not what you think! Let me explain!”

He was incoherent:

“I just wanted to throw away that stupid doll! The little blind girl wouldn’t let go! I just grabbed it! She lunged at me! The towel fell off by itself! I didn’t touch her! I really didn’t touch her!”

Silence on the other end.

Sweat beaded on Zhou Ye’s forehead:

“Xiaoxue, believe me! How could I possibly—I’ve always—”

“Are you done?”

That voice cut him off.

Still gentle and soft.

But Zhou Ye’s back began to chill.

“I-I’m done.”

A second of silence.

Then that voice came through, light and faint:

“Get lost.”

“You can’t even complete anything, you useless piece of garbage.”

The call ended.

Zhou Ye stood frozen, the phone still at his ear.

Shen Nian snatched the phone back and glared at him.

“Serves you right.”

She turned and walked over to Su Yutao, bending down—

Lifting Su Yutao entirely into her arms.

Su Yutao was stunned.

She was lifted completely.

Shen Nian’s arms were strong, supporting her steadily.

She instinctively hugged Qiansui tighter, not knowing where to put her other hand.

Shen Nian looked down at her:

“Don’t move. I’m taking you away.”

Su Yutao curled up in her arms, not daring to move.

Shen Nian carried her, striding out.

As she passed Zhou Ye, she didn’t even glance at him.

The door closed.

Footsteps echoed in the hallway.

Down the stairs.

Pushed open the door.

Night wind blew in, cool.

Su Yutao huddled in Shen Nian’s arms, the sound of the night wind in her ears, along with the occasional distant car.

Then she heard it—the sound of a car door opening.

Shen Nian set her down onto a soft seat.

It was a car.

Shen Nian put her in her own car.

Shen Nian closed the door, walked around to the driver’s seat, and started the engine.

The engine hummed softly.

Su Yutao curled up in the seat, hugging Qiansui, her mind still a bit dazed.

So… she was out?

Out of that person’s house?

She recalled something and asked in her mind:

Qiansui? Are you still there?

“I’m here, I’m here.” Qiansui’s voice came from her arms, soft and cute. “I’ve been here all along.”

Su Yutao breathed a sigh of relief.

Then she suddenly remembered something.

Um, so, you’re the system, right? So what’s the plot?

Qiansui was taken aback:

“What plot?”

Su Yutao said in her mind:

The plot, the main storyline. I’m a transmigrator, you’re the system, there should be a main quest or something, right?

Qiansui was silent for a moment.

Then mumbled softly:

“Uh… let me check… let me see what exactly it is…”

Silence.

A longer silence.

Then Qiansui’s voice grew even smaller:

“Um… the main storyline hasn’t started yet.”
