Her voice was slow, as if savoring something.
“Slapping you like that, you still don’t learn. I really should do as Dr. Shen said… teach you a different way.”
Su Yutao curled up on the floor, holding Qiansui, her body stiff.
She didn’t know what “a different way” meant, but she knew it wouldn’t be good.
Her legs went weak. She wanted to back away, but the wall was behind her. She couldn’t.
Lin Qingxue turned and walked to the wardrobe, pulled open a drawer, and rummaged for a moment.
She found a rope.
Not thick, not thin, brown, cotton. It was the same rope she had used to tie things up during the day.
She wrapped it around her hand twice, tested its strength, then walked back.
Su Yutao couldn’t “see” it, but she heard it. The sound of the rope in her hands, rustling, like a snake crawling on the ground.
Her heartbeat quickened, fast enough to burst.
Lin Qingxue crouched in front of her.
A hand reached out, grabbed the back of her collar, and lifted her off the floor.
Su Yutao was dragged up, her feet dangling, her whole body suspended in the air.
Qiansui slipped from her arms, fell to the ground, rolled twice, and stopped against the wall.
Su Yutao reached for him but couldn’t.
She wanted to call out to Qiansui, but couldn’t.
She could only hang there, suspended, waiting.
Lin Qingxue folded the rope in half and looped it around Su Yutao’s neck.
The rope was cotton, not rough, but the feeling made Su Yutao’s skin crawl with goosebumps.
She began to struggle. Her hands grabbed at the rope, her feet kicked in the air, her body twisted.
She wanted to tear the rope off, didn’t want to be tied up, didn’t want to be leashed like a dog.
Lin Qingxue didn’t stop her. She just let her struggle.
Su Yutao’s fingers dug into the rope, trying to pull it from around her neck, but Lin Qingxue tugged lightly on the other end, and her fingers were trapped.
She let go, grabbed again, and was trapped again.
Grab again, trap again.
Lin Qingxue watched her, let out a soft laugh.
The laugh was light, brief, like watching a disobedient puppy flailing.
She raised her foot and set it on Su Yutao’s back.
Not heavy, just resting there.
But Su Yutao’s whole body was forced to her knees. Her knees hit the floor. It hurt.
She knelt there, hands on the floor, the rope around her neck held by Lin Qingxue, her head forced up.
Her white hair spilled across the floor. Her purple eyes were open, seeing nothing but eternal darkness.
She knelt there, like a dog on a leash.
Lin Qingxue leaned down, her mouth close to Su Yutao’s ear.
The voice came from behind her ear, soft, slow, with a hint of laughter: “A disobedient dog that runs around and bites people must be punished.”
Su Yutao trembled all over. She wanted to dodge but couldn’t.
The rope pulled her head up, the foot pressed her body down. She couldn’t move.
Lin Qingxue’s voice continued, like telling a story: “When I was little, I also kept a dog.”
Su Yutao didn’t want to listen.
She shook her head violently, trying to shake the voice out of her mind.
She couldn’t.
“That dog was too disobedient.”
“So I just broke one of its paws.”
Lin Qingxue’s voice was still slow, calm, as if talking about the nice weather.
“It bit me. Guess what happened to that dog in the end?”
Su Yutao shook her head.
She didn’t want to know.
She didn’t want to know at all.
She just shook her head, shaking frantically. Tears wouldn’t come, but her whole body trembled.
Lin Qingxue let out a soft laugh, a chill in it: “In the end, I killed it.”
“Just snapped its neck.”
Her hand lightly traced Su Yutao’s neck, as if demonstrating.
“What use is there in keeping a dog that disobedient?”
Su Yutao’s breath stopped.
She remembered that rainy night, the sound of “crack.”
The sound of that woman’s neck being snapped.
The sound of that man’s head being crushed.
She trembled all over, shaking like a leaf.
Lin Qingxue’s hand moved away from her neck and gently pinched her cheek.
The touch was light, like petting a kitten.
“But someone like you, who whimpers at the slightest pain, is so cute.”
Her voice carried a hint of satisfaction.
“I’m a bit reluctant to kill you.”
Su Yutao knelt on the floor, head raised, trembling.
She didn’t know whether to feel relieved or more afraid.
“But.”
Lin Qingxue’s voice rang out again.
“I still need to give you a small punishment.”
She leaned down, opened her mouth, and bit Su Yutao’s ear.
It wasn’t a light bite. It was the kind where teeth slowly sank in.
Su Yutao’s ear was enclosed, warm, wet, then painful.
The teeth tightened, bit by bit, like chewing a piece of soft candy.
Su Yutao’s hands scratched at the floor, her nails scraping against it, making a harsh sound.
Her mouth opened, and a “whimpering” sound came from her throat. It wasn’t crying. It was pain, the kind of pain that made her want to escape but couldn’t.
Lin Qingxue bit for a long time.
So long that Su Yutao thought her ear would be bitten off.
Then she let go, and her tongue lightly licked the teeth marks. Su Yutao shuddered.
Lin Qingxue straightened up, looking down at Su Yutao kneeling on the floor.
The little blind girl’s ear now had a row of teeth marks, red, oozing blood.
Her white hair scattered on the ground, her face covered in tear stains. Though no tears flowed, her eyes were red and swollen, clearly showing the traces of crying.
She knelt there, hands on the floor, her whole body trembling, like a broken doll.
“Now.”
Lin Qingxue’s voice came from above, tinged with satisfaction. “Time to settle the account for you biting me this morning.”
Her gaze fell on Su Yutao’s mouth. That mouth, closed, lips pressed tightly. Because of the fierce biting earlier, there was a mark on her lower lip.
Lin Qingxue looked at that mouth, and the curve of her lips deepened.
“It was this mouth that bit me, wasn’t it?”
Su Yutao sensed her intent.
She began to struggle, desperately.
Her hands scrambled on the floor, her feet kicked, her body shrank back, trying to pull the rope off her neck.
She wanted to run, to hide, to bury herself.
Lin Qingxue pressed down with her foot, pushing her back.
Su Yutao lay on the floor, unable to move.
She could only lie there, trembling, waiting.
Lin Qingxue crouched down, one hand pinching her chin, lifting her face.
The other hand pulled the rope, a gentle tug.
Su Yutao’s head was forced higher.
Her mouth opened slightly.
Lin Qingxue leaned down, closing in on that mouth.
Her breath brushed Su Yutao’s face, cool, with a hint of blood. She didn’t know whose.
Su Yutao shook her head wildly, twisting it in Lin Qingxue’s grip like a caught fish.
Her mouth hung open, making a “huffing” sound. It wasn’t a plea for mercy. It was the low growl of a cornered animal.
But her resistance, in Lin Qingxue’s hands, was no different from begging.
With just a little pressure from Lin Qingxue, she couldn’t move.
With just a gentle squeeze, her mouth opened.
With just a slight tug, her head tilted back.
She couldn’t escape.
She would never escape.
Lin Qingxue lowered her head, her lips almost touching Su Yutao’s.
The voice came right at her lips, soft, slow, with a hint of laughter: “A disobedient mouth deserves punishment.”
