Chapter 128: A Plan in the Frozen Wastes

To conceal our tracks, we were all wrapped up tightly, veils covering our faces, lagging far behind the main force.

After leaving Minos City, the main force continued northward.

To the north of Minos City lay the Endless Ice Field, still largely unexplored. Living creatures could barely advance beyond 800 kilometers north before being halted entirely. Thus, even the powerful Tri-Clan Alliance’s knowledge of the northern ice field was limited to that 800-kilometer range.

Of course, the further north, the colder it got. Fortunately, I had managed to buy an authentic bearskin coat in the city.

Leaving Minos City, I looked out and saw nothing but endless snowy wasteland—snow-formed hills, snow-carpeted ground, and a fierce, snowy wind.

They say snow is pure and romantic, but standing in this frozen hell, freezing my ass off, I felt not a trace of romance.

“Ya Shen, are we… are we going to snatch it?”

Huo Jinjin looked at me with eager eyes.

I lifted my head, giving a lofty smile. “No, we’re just going to take what belongs to us… Achoo!”

Huo Jinjin froze, then nodded in admiration, giving me a thumbs-up. “As expected of Ya Shen! You don’t hold back when putting on a front!”

“Of course!” I proudly put my hands on my hips. “…Achoo!”

After the little joke, we had to seriously consider the matter at hand.

Fairy Sister frowned. “Though I really want to snatch it too… but it won’t be that easy, will it? It comes down to burst damage output. There are only five of us—how can our burst compare to a guild of hundreds? Even with Ya Shen…”

“Indeed,” Yingning nodded as well. “Yaya, we need to be cautious about this. Last time was pure luck… we may not get such a rare opportunity again.

We may not have such a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

“Wait… last time? What last time? Did you guys snatch a boss before?” Huo Jinjin’s eyes lit up. “Guild Leader, you and Ya Shen did something that thrilling? Snatching a boss… that’s every player’s dream!”

“Last time was just luck…” Yingning waved her hand with a smile. “That boss gave me a huge boost in strength…”

“A huge boost? Wait… girl, what level are you now?” Fairy Sister suddenly seemed to remember something, asking in shock.

“This…” Yingning thought. It didn’t matter if she revealed her level, as long as Yaya stayed hidden. “I’m level 39 now.”

“Level 39… damn… no wonder you’re so strong!” Fairy Sister opened the level rankings. “Among the top ten players on the first page, only one has their name hidden. Level 39… eighth in the world, third in the Asian server… holy crap! It’s you! Girl, you’re on the leaderboard! The world level leaderboard! Third among billions!”

“What? Was that Red Water Dragon soloed by our Guild Leader?” Huo Jinjing shouted excitedly. “Holy shit… it was our own Guild Leader who made them look bad! The Red Water Dragon that the weakling guild Sword Sweeping the World couldn’t take down with thousands of people—our Guild Leader killed it alone?! So all those times they got humiliated this year were our boss’s doing! How satisfying!”

“Not just that!” Fairy Sister chimed in, her voice trembling with excitement. “If I’m not mistaken, that Red Water Dragon was snatched from Sword Sweeping the World, right? Otherwise, given a world boss’s HP, even if the girl had been attacking since the server opened, she couldn’t have killed it!”

Yingning nodded shyly. “I owe it all to Sister Yaya’s guidance… I don’t have that kind of strength myself.”

Fairy Sister was full of admiration. “Ya Shen is strong! Unmatched!”

If even a priest could snatch a boss, I might as well delete my account and restart…

Huo Jinjin was weeping, but tears instantly froze into two strings of ice crystals, making him look quite ridiculous.

I lowered my head, thinking. “Anyway, let’s stay on the periphery and observe for now. Our main goal this time is the world main quest. Sword Sweeping the World can fight their boss—there shouldn’t be any conflict with us… When things get chaotic, we fish in troubled waters. If we can snatch it, great; if not, we focus on the quest. Don’t lose the watermelon for the sesame.”

Actually, if they hadn’t mentioned the word ‘temple’ in connection with the boss, I might not have followed at all.

The temple relates to my advancement quest. What worries me is that my advancement might require killing a boss, but Sword Sweeping the World might kill it first.

Although it would be ridiculously difficult if my advancement quest required killing a world boss, my identity as a super S-rank pet means I shouldn’t even exist at this stage of the game. So I have to beware of such unexpected scenarios.

I guessed that after completing the [Find the Temple] quest, my advancement quest would update with a new requirement. If that requirement involved killing the boss in the temple, I would have to find a way to cause some trouble for those thousands of people.

“How about this,” I thought, suddenly feeling that there was no need for Ningning and the others to come along. Though many hands make light work, their combined strength was negligible compared to thousands. I could move more freely alone to complete the quest without exposing them. I hadn’t realized this earlier—I must have been frozen stupid.

“You all go back. We’re not snatching this boss. I’ll follow and scout alone… Don’t worry, I won’t act rashly.”

The first half was for the four of them, the second half for Ningning.

“Time is tight. We should focus on investigating the main quest line and finding those two risky NPCs, Alexia and Shirley. That’s the priority.”

The main quest’s rewards might not be worse than the boss’s.

Also, I was afraid that main quests were first-come, first-served. If it wasn’t unique and someone else got it first, we’d be at a huge loss.

“Huh? Ya Shen, you’re not going to take us along for the ride and let us show off? So sad!” Huo Jinjin clutched his chest with an expression of grief.

“Yaya has a point,” Qingyu nodded. “But for some reason, I feel like after Huo Jinjin joined, my presence has gotten even lower…”

“Yaya has a point! Rationally, we should do this to be safer,” Fairy Sister nodded.

“Hey, I just said ‘Yaya has a point’! Don’t ignore me!” Qingyu was about to cry.

“Yeah, I also think Ya Shen is right! But snatching a boss! Such an exciting thing, and I finally have a chance to follow a pro… ah, so sad!” Huo Jinjin sighed.

Qingyu: “…”

“I’ll go with Yaya. Sister Fairy and Huo Jinjin, you two go back first,” Yingning said. Then she held my hand, looking into my eyes seriously. “No refusing!”

Fine, I knew it would come to this…

I couldn’t resist Yingning’s hand-holding attack, so I had to take her along. From then on, the team split into two.

Shortly after we parted, Yingning and I continued forward. As we walked, we suddenly heard a vigorous, childish shout.

“Jiangu! You’re dead! This time, I, the world’s number one beautiful girl assassin, will definitely kill you!”
