Join the ServerSelf-motivation, Dragon Claw, Meditation, Roar, Toxic… The sheer variety of pet skills was dizzying.
It revealed a completely different development path to me.
Through the skill learning machines sold at the auction house, I could acquire offensive capabilities, no longer just a weak healer. This was also my confidence in daring to solo the Spider Cave of difficulty.
Although, for some reason, unlike innate skills, extra pet skills could only be learned up to four… but even four would significantly boost my strength.
Since my innate skills, apart from one Holy Smite that was practically useless, had no other magical attacks, I naturally wanted to buy attack-type pet skills.
Each pet could only learn skills of its corresponding category. My stats showed I was Ice and Fairy type, so I had to look for Ice and Fairy attack skills.
Pet skill machines were currently very cheap. I glanced and saw the most expensive was only 5000 gold, a purple skill called [Extreme Cold Flame] with a power of 140, and a 30% chance to add a burn status. Unfortunately, it required level 60…
Anyway, I bought it to hoard, in case the price went up later. I shifted my gaze to other skills.
In the Ice skill list, there was only one skill I could learn now: a level 35 skill named Powder Snow, power 40, with a small chance to freeze the enemy.
I had no idea how that power value was calculated.
Without hesitation, I bought Powder Snow. A soft ‘ding’ came from the mailbox. I didn’t rush to take it out but switched the purchase option to Fairy skills.
For Fairy skills, I could learn quite a few now, over a dozen.
Picking and choosing, my gaze settled on five skills.
[Charm Voice – Power 40: Emits a charming cry, dealing spiritual damage. Attack always hits.]
[Draining Kiss – Power 50: Drains the opponent’s HP with a kiss. Recovers more than half the damage dealt.]
[Fairy Wind – Power 40: Summons a fairy wind to blow at the opponent.]
[Aromatic Mist – Power 0: Uses a magical fragrance to raise the magic defense of all allies.]
[Earth Control – Power 0: After 5 seconds of charging, greatly increases your own magic attack, magic defense, and speed for 1 minute.]
I really wanted to complain why most Fairy skills, except Earth Control, felt like they came from a doujin… Anyway, I finally chose [Charm Voice], [Fairy Wind], and [Earth Control].
Although [Draining Kiss] and [Aromatic Mist] had tempting effects, [Draining Kiss] sounded like a pure welfare skill, and [Aromatic Mist] did not suit my values.
Punching through the sky, that’s a true mother’s romance!
I learned the four skills, filling up my pet skill slots, and started carefully examining the skill descriptions after learning them.
[Powder Snow]: Instant cast, Ice type. Deals 770 magic damage (affected by magic attack). 1% chance to freeze for 3 seconds, during which the target cannot move or use skills. (Note: Freeze effect does not work on most bosses. Please explore specifics yourself.) Cooldown 3 seconds.
[Fairy Wind]: Instant cast, Fairy type. Deals 770 magic damage (affected by magic attack). No special effects. Cooldown 3 seconds.
[Charm Voice]: Instant cast, always hits. Deals 770 magic damage (affected by magic attack). 1% chance to charm the target, causing them to walk towards you defenselessly for 3 seconds. Cooldown 5 seconds.
[Earth Control]: Casting time 5 seconds. Increases magic attack, magic defense, and movement speed by 50% each for 1 minute. Cooldown 5 minutes.
After roughly understanding the skill usage without actual practice, I ran back to the teleport point and teleported to Zhenxin Village.
Previously, I had been busy chopping Red Water Dragons, so the pet advancement quest I received from the Zhenxin Village Pet Trainer was still incomplete… And since a tough battle lay ahead, I shouldn’t miss any chance to improve my strength.
An advancement quest—just the name gave me a feeling that completing it would be like breaking a cocoon into a butterfly!
Carrying the quest items from before, I trotted over to the pet trainer. This NPC was easy to recognize because the length of his name could rival mine—Eternal Novice Pet Trainer.
He lived in a small yard, with a cute large golden mouse on his shoulder named ‘Super Divine Beast.’
“You’re back… Where’s your trainer?” The aged pet trainer tapped his old legs and asked.
“I came alone. She didn’t follow. I’m here to turn in the quest.” I told the truth.
The old pet trainer nodded, a look of sadness on his face, as if recalling something.
Then, the old pet trainer slowly rose from his rocking chair, looking at me with cloudy old eyes and obvious pity: “Answer three questions, and I will tell you the secret to advancement.”
[Do you accept the third part of the pet advancement quest?]
[Yes / No]
Thank heavens, I finally controlled my hand. This time, I didn’t punch out!
“Alright, first question… Why do you obey your master?” As he asked, the old man’s cloudy eyes showed a trace of sorrow.
“Because she is my master. I can’t think of a better answer. Could I confess it’s because she’s my sister? The soft spot in my heart?”
The old man looked disappointed, and the sadness in his eyes deepened: “Second question: Why is she your master? Because of the collar around your neck?”
“Exactly, because of the collar.” I said indifferently.
Tears glistened in the old man’s eyes: “Poor child… Last question: Why do you help her wholeheartedly? Just because of the collar? Because of her orders?”
You’re cheating! That’s three questions!
“Because I am lucky. The one who put the collar on me is her, and not someone else…”
The old man shook his head, but I continued.
“The collar only forged our bond, but my loyalty depends on her kindness. A wolf becomes a dog when collared; it loses its wildness and freedom, but no one knows whether the wolf lives happily or the dog lives contentedly. Perhaps it never cares about so-called freedom, but rather the meaning of its existence… It just so happens that she can satisfy that. Otherwise, how could anyone tame a proud wolf?”
The old man’s body stiffened, his eyes gradually widening, and the cloudiness in them slowly dissipated without him noticing.
“Congratulations on answering something even I couldn’t think of… As promised, I will tell you your advancement method.”
