Chapter 151: The City Lord’s Arrival

Before long, Bai Li Mie Tian logged into the game again, crying.

Despair etched on his face—the deepest grief of a heart dead beyond feeling. His eyes were vacant, and his lips mechanically repeated one word: revenge.

He wanted revenge.

No matter what, he absolutely had to have revenge!

Those bastards!

‘When have I ever suffered such a fall? It’s always been me bullying others, never the other way around!’

‘Jailbreak, huh?’

‘I’ll show you jailbreak!’

He pulled out a crystal—the Nine Hua Alliance Saint-tier Communication Crystal.

He dialed number XEM9001.

Surrounded by the Ten Thousand Souls Hall, Sword Ancient was now powerless to stop us even if he wanted to. Ivan, as a Level 55 boss, was no match for a few dozen or even a few hundred players, and Sword Sweeping the World could only spare this many troops.

We trod the red carpet laid out by Sword Sweeping the World, joyfully and easily charging out of the chaos toward the city gates, slowly approaching the entrance to Minos City… Really, we had to thank Sword Sweeping the World’s people for showing us the way!

“Mage Third Squad, focus fire and try to kill a few of them,” Sword Ancient ordered in a low voice—even if this plan failed, he couldn’t let them have an easy time.

“Hide behind Ivan!” I quickly commanded.

The barrage from Mage Third Squad was blocked by Ivan’s massive body, but within the battle group, Sword Ancient smirked at me from afar.

After hiding behind Ivan, I discovered another volley of spells already within arm’s reach! Sword Ancient had anticipated our move; while ordering the Third Squad, he had secretly commanded another mage team behind Ivan!

But it didn’t matter.

Activate crystal…

“Activate crystal!”

The crystal given to us by the two Saint-tier big shots clearly stated: “Upon use, all non-forbidden spells within range are nullified.”

This naturally included players’ spells!

Under the stunned gazes of those around us, we swaggered forward, letting Ivan kick away the few melee fighters who had managed to get close.

Sword Sweeping the World was severely understaffed and posed no threat. With the crystal’s help, not only were mages’ spells nullified, but rogues’ stealth was also useless—no one could sneak up and land a control on us.

Strangely, though, every time we used the crystal back on the surface, the ground beneath its glow turned into rotten black mud. Even grotesque insects and pale bones materialized out of thin air!

This wasn’t the time to worry about that. I memorized this anomaly and added it to my task objectives—this could be a discovery that significantly affected our quest’s direction and rewards!

We continued forward. The city lord did not appear.

If we kept going, we would leave Minos City within a minute at most, teleporting to the protection of Aksiya and Xue Li. And in that minute, unless the city lord himself came out, the city guards would be blocked by the player army and couldn’t touch us.

But would the city lord of Minos appear?

The answer was no.

I estimated over a seventy percent chance that the city lord would show up, because legend said he was Level 150 and should have everything in Minos under control. He should know about the player chaos.

The remaining thirty percent possibility came from all the strange occurrences during our jailbreak. I bet the city lord didn’t know about Ivan’s escape, only that players were fighting. And player fights weren’t worth his personal attention.

No matter the hidden factors, the city lord never appeared. We now stood outside the city, teleportation crystal in hand. Nothing could stop our escape. Even if the Level 150 city lord showed up, he couldn’t halt a Level 180 Saint-tier teleportation spell.

Before activating the crystal, I carefully reviewed the task experience.

So many doubts plagued this mission. First, how did Sword Ancient so accurately track our movements?

An imprisoned member of Sword Sweeping the World could have tipped them off, but the truth likely wasn’t that simple—otherwise they wouldn’t have mobilized such a huge army based on one person’s words.

Second, how was it that the border fortress Minos City’s dungeon had no NPC guards at all?! The only guard who captured me was actually Bai Li Mie Tian, a player in disguise!

And why did Bai Li Mie Tian impersonate a city guard? Whose quest did he take? What was his objective? Ordinary NPCs couldn’t disguise a super notorious red-name player like him into a harmless citizen. Minos City didn’t even allow super red-names to appear… So who had the ability to disguise him as a citizen and even make him a guard? That person must be incredibly influential!

Recalling Ivan’s information— “…the adventurers who interrogated me before…” —that meant an adventurer had accepted the quest to interrogate Ivan. Who was that person?

I could even take a wild guess: that person was Bai Li Mie Tian!

Indeed, none of the big guild leaders were simpletons. Forget Bai Li Mie Tian’s weak will and flamboyant manner—his abilities were absolutely undeniable.

And then there was Princess Sheng’s situation. Too many doubts… I grew more and more interested in the direction of the quest and the world’s history. Once this series of tasks was complete, the truth would probably be mind-blowing!

But many questions would be answered once we met Aksiya and Xue Li—like the secret Ivan carried, why so many wanted to subdue him, who was helping us, what the Vow of the Stars meant, and what the hell was that stinking thing in the S01 first-class cell of Minos City’s dungeon!

Of course, what I cared most about was the damn 28 bottles of Mother River Water! What kind of terror made the Saint-tier Xue Li laugh so hard she rolled, and the aloof Aksiya laugh out loud?! Help! Something deadly was coming!

[Portal Opened]

We sandwiched Ivan between us and charged into the portal without hesitation.

Aksiya and Xue Li were already on the other side.

This was a watchtower northeast of Minos City, but its interior was luxuriously decorated—like a five-star hotel, transforming the humble watchtower into a cozy dwelling.

When they saw us return, Aksiya and Xue Li stood up from their desk and bed respectively.

“Ha, no need to stand and greet us! I know we’re triumphant heroes and all, but you’re Saint-tier—no need to rise for us. At ease, at ease!” I waved generously.

Aksiya and Xue Li didn’t speak but instantly conjured a longsword and a priest’s staff, their expressions deadly serious as they entered combat readiness.

“We brought Ivan back! Why so tense~” I said with a smile, casually pulling out my own priest’s staff and signaling Yingning and the others to retreat.

“No,” Aksiya shook her head gently and sighed. “You brought back the city lord.”

?!

…The Level 150 city lord? What the hell kind of plot twist is this?

Then Xue Li confirmed our guess.

“Shermi, long time no see.”
