Upon witnessing Yingning gather the majority of the items, leaving only a single, distant weapon yet to be tucked into her backpack, the onlookers were seized by a sudden, burning anxiety.
Regardless of anything else, weapons were paramount! In the early stages of the game, a high-attack weapon translated into several times the leveling efficiency of others. This disparity would inevitably trigger a snowball effect, rendering it nearly impossible for latecomers to catch up. Even if all other possessions were forfeited, even if one were reduced to Level 0, that weapon absolutely could not be lost!
Yingning remained utterly oblivious to the commotion around her, yet she paid it no mind. She simply had no time to spare for such concerns, her gaze singularly focused on the gleaming pile of equipment scattered across the ground!
She understood the immense value of green-tier equipment in the early game. Irrespective of its owner, this cache of gear absolutely could not be allowed to fall into the hands of these brutes. Even if she could only snatch a few pieces, she would ensure they felt the sting of loss!
Summoning every ounce of her strength, the young woman launched herself forward, soaring through the air! She plunged directly towards the green-quality warrior’s one-handed sword.
Concurrently, two players positioned nearer to her also sprang into action, lunging directly at her. In the distance, three mages, having completed their incantations in perfect synchronicity, locked their fireballs onto a point a mere half-step ahead of her anticipated landing spot.
Yingning, being merely Level One and a player without my 1.5x pet attribute bonus, faced a dire situation. Should she suffer even a single hit from this onslaught, her chance at acquiring that coveted green one-handed sword would vanish.
An assassin and a warrior surged towards her, both having unleashed their advance and crowd control abilities, determined to pin Yingning to the spot.
Should those three additional fireballs strike her, she would surely perish, instantly returning to the resurrection point.
The assassin’s dagger was already pressed firmly against Yingning’s exposed calf. Such was the fidelity of the simulation that a faint trace of blood had begun to seep from the blade’s edge—a hamstring cut!
With but a fraction more force, Yingning’s calf tendon would be severed, plunging her into a brief yet utterly fatal period of forced immobility.
As if misfortune were not enough, the warrior’s massive two-handed greatsword descended with crushing force towards Yingning’s neck. This formidable warrior, a towering Level 7, now strained with every fiber of his being, his dark upper body a terrifying mass of bulging, hardened muscle. This single strike, a [Heavy Slash], if it connected with Yingning’s neck, would be far more devastating than a mere stun. It was highly probable that she would be instantly annihilated by a critical hit!
“Clang!”
A sharp clang of metal resonated across the entire area. The assassin’s dagger, poised to strike, was abruptly deflected by a sudden flash of green that seemed to materialize from thin air. Though it regrettably shaved 5 points from Yingning’s health, it crucially failed to inflict a crippling injury to her calf muscle, thus preventing the dreaded forced immobility.
While the immediate threat of the assassin’s dagger had been neutralized, an even more formidable, high-level warrior remained hot on their heels!
This time, however, the mysterious projectile failed to connect with the warrior’s weapon.
Observing the white light streak past his blade without dislodging the weapon from his grasp, the warrior unleashed a sinister grin, bringing his greatsword down with savage force!
Indeed! It was precisely as he had anticipated. If that fleeting white light wasn’t merely a bug, but rather the young girl’s ultimate defensive gambit…
Were it a defensive item or skill, it would, for the sake of game balance, undoubtedly be subject to certain limitations. It couldn’t possibly offer a hundred percent block rate against all attacks. Even if it possessed blocking capabilities, it would either operate on a probability or be bound by a finite blocking threshold!
This adversary was, after all, a mere Level One player. Even if they somehow managed to employ a high-quality defensive art, its blocking probability or threshold would undeniably be exceedingly low. In stark contrast, he stood at a formidable Level 7, his attributes a full three times superior to hers!
Every cunning stratagem, every clever trick, amounted to nothing more than a paper tiger when confronted with absolute power. They would crumble with a single, decisive strike!
His current full-force strike, he reasoned, had most likely already surpassed the opponent’s blocking limit, rendering their defensive spell incapable of parrying such a potent assault!
Hmph!
When an opponent unleashed an incomprehensibly potent skill, to panic, to lose one’s composure, to merely lament and curse fate without considering the game’s inherent balance or the skill’s potential weaknesses—to simply grouse about the perceived brokenness of the game—that was the sure path to becoming a worthless ‘salted fish’ (TL Note: A Chinese slang term, ‘xianyu,’ referring to someone who is lazy, unmotivated, or has given up on life) player for life!
Having ascended to Level 7 with such remarkable swiftness, he was, by definition, no such ‘salted fish’.
“Die!!!”
Your weakness! I have seen through it entirely!
The gleaming, stark white two-handed greatsword, reflecting the desolate moonlight, descended with an unparalleled, chilling finality. Whistling through the air, it struck Yingning’s nape!
At this critical juncture, Yingning’s hand remained a tantalizingly short distance from the green weapon.
“Prepare yourself! [Heavy Slash]’s advanced skill! [Thousand Ton Slash]!”
With a sinister grin splitting his face, the warrior let out a furious roar!
This was his long-concealed trump card, a technique he had saved for a grand display during a major event organized by their leader. Yet, in this moment of desperation, such considerations were cast aside!
The two-handed greatsword suddenly accelerated, slamming into Yingning’s nape with an intensity several times greater than before, sending her dark, lustrous hair flying upwards!
“CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!”
