Chapter 147: A Goblin’s Oath

Ivan was in the maximum-security cell—the S-class cell of Minos City, protected by the highest level of guard magic.

But in the face of our tools, all guard magic was utterly meaningless.

The S02 cell ranked second among all prison cells in Minos City.

Under the shocked gazes and envious shouts of our fellow inmates, we traversed the dungeon corridor.

The passage was dark, and the deeper we went, the stronger a peculiar, foul stench became—as if something horrifying lurked at the corridor’s end.

‘What is that smell? A stench I’ve never encountered—fishy and sour, utterly nauseating…’ Battery Fairy grimaced, pressing a towel to her nose. ‘Even turning off my sense of smell and setting perception to zero, I can still detect a trace… If I didn’t, how sickening would it be?’

We didn’t reach the end of the corridor. We stopped near the iron door of S02. Between S02 and S01 stretched a long, unseen tunnel, and that terrible stench crushed any desire to explore further.

‘Turning off smell isn’t complete; it just reduces the sensory input to one-thousandth, roughly zero… It’s coming from S01,’ Su Yingning said, scrolling through the forum on her phone. ‘Someone on the forum tried to explore, but they all turned back halfway. A few persistent ones pushed on, only to be gassed and killed by the fumes. Hard to imagine how terrifying it would be without filtering… Yaya?’

My eyes rolled back, and I collapsed into Su Yingning’s arms, half-conscious.

It wasn’t that I lacked perseverance. That thing was simply too horrific. Even if Ivan were just a few steps away, I couldn’t bear it. This wasn’t a matter of willpower—it was a physiological issue!

Helpless, Su Yingning carried me back to a less pungent area. Leaving me behind, the four of them went ahead to find Ivan.

But I wasn’t idle. Staying here let me act as a guard. A fierce battle was likely ahead; otherwise, this mission would be far too easy.

I could monitor Su Yingning’s progress through video feed. They were making good headway. Soon, they reached Ivan’s cell door.

Instead of immediately opening it, they first slid open a small window on the door and peered inside.

From the video, the window showed only pitch blackness, as if something blocked the view…

Suddenly, a gigantic eye appeared out of the darkness!

‘Gigantic’ because the eye was the size of a fist!

Wasn’t this guy a goblin? How could he have such huge eyes? How massive was he? Was he really a goblin?

Then, a deafening, furious voice boomed from within the cell.

‘Get lost! Humans! I told you, even if I starve to death, don’t expect Ivan to work for you!’

The voice was so loud it made the walls tremble.

If this guy turned hostile after being released, he might obliterate us in one shot.

‘We’re here to take you out,’ Su Yingning said, trying to stay calm.

‘You’ve used that excuse too many times! Since the second time, Ivan has never trusted you again! Get lost! Get out! And close that window! It stinks!’

‘Two Saint-level masters sent us to rescue you because a huge, living demonic creation was discovered outside Minos City.’ Su Yingning explained the whole story, trying to hit the mission’s key point.

‘Hmph, this excuse is new. A demonic creation revived? You dare fabricate such a horror? Aren’t you afraid it’ll come true?’

‘What are the consequences of demonic creation revival?’

Su Yingning’s eyes lit up. ‘What are the consequences?’

‘You don’t know?’ Ivan asked, then answered himself. ‘Of course, small adventurers like you wouldn’t know. Shermi wouldn’t tell you, and neither will I. But little adventurer, those who came to interrogate Ivan before were foolish, but you new ones are even worse! If a demonic creation can revive, why bother convincing Ivan to help you do it? Stupid!’

Seeing that he was unyielding, Su Yingning and the others grew anxious. If we were discovered and the high-level alarm was triggered, we’d be surrounded and killed by level-60 city guard NPCs. It was a miracle we hadn’t triggered any alarms so far.

‘Fine. Since you don’t trust me… may I ask, have those people—the ones you call Shermi—ever taken you out of here?’

Ivan’s huge eye was full of doubt, but he answered decisively, ‘No.’

‘Then please leave with us.’

I nodded inwardly. Su Yingning’s approach was correct.

If Ivan was telling the truth, he wasn’t unwilling to be free—he just lacked trust in us. So we only needed to prove ourselves through action.

Before Ivan could respond, a crystal flashed on the screen, and with a clang, the heavy iron door’s lock shattered.

‘Move aside!’ Ivan’s voice was calm—he still didn’t trust them—but he warned them to step back, showing he wasn’t completely distrustful.

The door crashed down as Ivan kicked it from inside. Finally, we saw his true form.

This guy was indeed Ivan the goblin, not some enemy spy planted in his cell. But… was he really a goblin?

Goblins, also called Blins, were known for their short stature and crafting skills, usually under a meter tall. But this one… was a full ten meters!

He could only crawl on all fours to move through the corridor.

‘Not putting me in a shrinking space bag?’ Ivan sneered. ‘That’s what you used to do—claim it was to reduce my size and avoid triggering alarms, but really, you only felt safe when I was trapped in a bag. And last time, you said you’d give me fried chicken, but you laced it with confusion potion… What scheme do you have this time?’

Su Yingning didn’t get annoyed. She smiled warmly. ‘If I said no scheme, you wouldn’t believe me. Let’s just see.’

A rumbling sound grew closer from within the cell. Ivan and the others soon reached me and regrouped.

‘Hey, big guy!’ I waved at Ivan. ‘What’s that thing in S01? It stinks to high heaven…’

Ivan’s indifferent gaze swept over me. But half a second later, he suddenly scrambled up, banging his head hard against the dungeon ceiling without noticing, and knelt before me with a thunderous crash, panicked yet fervent. Tears streamed down his cheeks. Finally, he lifted his head proudly, clenched his fist, pounded his chest, and let out a long howl—

‘Princess… Princess Sheng?! Ivan… Ivan has never betrayed the oath of the Stars!!!’
