Join the ServerThis is the funniest joke I’ve heard all year, yet I can’t bring myself to laugh.
Five saint-rank individuals jointly accuse Aksiya of massacring a city?
She risked her life to save Minos City from the hands of an unknown force! She accomplished such a world-shaking feat, only to be immediately burdened with a black pot?
I feel indignant for Aksiya, an NPC who has devoted her entire life to the Alliance.
Sherli was right—the Alliance Tribunal is a bunch of pigs! These low-level NPCs can’t tell right from wrong at all!
The reasons for this phenomenon are easy to speculate. There are only three possibilities.
First, Aksiya is upright and strict, offending many powerful enemies. Now they see an opportunity to slander her. But five saint-rank individuals jointly filing a complaint is too extreme. Aksiya isn’t stupid; it’s unlikely she would offend so many saint-ranks for no reason. So the first possibility is ruled out.
Second, the higher-ups of the Alliance have been infiltrated by the enemy. At least one other saint-rank besides Shermi has turned traitor, acting as a stirrer. They deliberately pinned Shermi’s fault on Aksiya to eliminate this loyal threat to the Alliance.
But I still don’t think they could corrupt five saint-ranks. Even NPCs have to follow basic rules. So the second possibility is also crossed out.
Third—and the most likely—is that the Alliance higher-ups are fully aware of the whole situation, but for some terrible reason, they have to cover up the truth and push Aksiya out as a scapegoat, making her bear the responsibility for the fall of Minos City.
That reason could be to prevent public panic or to stop certain factions from rebelling. So they have to hide the truth, not only making people believe that Aksiya caused the fall of Minos City, but also silencing her, the few who know the truth.
Even though she is a great hero, the first to report the alien invasion.
Those pigs are truly determined to end the Constellation Path here.
As expected of an SSS-rank mission—at least the difficulty leaves no room for complaint.
“What’s wrong? Your face has looked terrible since we left Yang Ye’s box. You dragged me here, and now your expression is even worse. Does what happened in Santa Cruz City have anything to do with you?” I asked calmly.
I had to pretend I knew nothing about it, or my identity would be exposed without any suspense.
Yingning gave me a deep look, but I was confident she couldn’t see anything on my face.
“It has a lot to do with it. Something important is about to happen to me, Yaya, and Sister Fairy. I still don’t know if it’s fortune or disaster. At least from what I see now, disaster seems more likely.”
I didn’t say anything more, so Yingning turned to the two elves and asked, “Is the source of this news reliable? Is it possible for the Tribunal to change the verdict? What if there’s other evidence that can prove Aksiya’s innocence?”
“It shouldn’t be possible. Throughout history, the Tribunal has never changed a verdict, nor has it ever made a mistake. So since the Tribunal has confirmed and announced that Aksiya committed genocide, she must have done it. The Alliance would never deceive us!” one elf said firmly after thinking.
It seems the Alliance’s credibility is exceptionally high. The people never suspect anything shady happening within it.
Indeed, the Alliance has penetrated every aspect of life on the Adal Continent. It governs and benefits the three races, and every creature here enjoys its welfare.
“What a pity. How could Lady Aksiya have been so foolish as to commit such a serious crime? She was the kindest and most righteous saint, the idol of all women! We all dream of one day being like her, no longer relying on men and having the ability to stand on our own. It’s a shame… Who would have thought her true nature was so cruel…” the female elf sighed.
Yingning took a deep breath, her gaze complex, and said in a low voice, “If one day, facts prove Aksiya innocent, and she remains the upright, kind, and self-reliant Sword Goddess in everyone’s hearts, would you condemn the Alliance for her sake?”
“Of course! Other saints, maybe not, but Lady Aksiya is a role model for all women on the Adal Continent!” the elf laughed. “But the Alliance cannot be wrong.”
Yingning said nothing more, but I knew what she wanted to say.
So I said it for her: even if we know the truth, no one will believe it.
“Time will clear Aksiya’s name.”
Yingning looked at me in surprise. I smiled. “Because my sister never misjudges people.”
Hearing that, Yingning blushed and gave me a reproachful glare. “Idiot! Don’t use your flirting skills on your own sister! Do you know how dangerous that is?”
“Huh?”
“Especially when you’re cross-dressing!”
“…”
I felt a strange sense of defeat… As a man, my male form’s appeal to women is worse than my female form?
Damn it! Take this seven-centimeter needle!
Anyway, after talking with the two elves, we hurried to meet up with Battery Fairy and the others.
“Are we really on the Constellation Path?” Battery Fairy asked as soon as she saw us, voicing the question that concerned them most.
“Ninety percent sure,” Yingning replied, then relayed the news from the elves.
Everyone gaped, unable to understand the Alliance’s actions, and felt despair at the ridiculous difficulty of the mission.
“After logging in tonight, our first priority is to search for evidence that can clear Aksiya. Whether it’s useful or not, it’s better to be prepared.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
“Then…” Yingning’s expression was conflicted.
Battery Fairy, having spent much time with her, immediately understood her thoughts. “Got it. You two go ahead. Indeed, we can’t abandon either side… So the three of us will head to Santa Cruz City to gather intelligence, while you two explore the secret realm.”
“Don’t worry. This is an exceptional time. We understand. Maximizing combat power and manpower is the most important right now,” Qingyu also understood.
Then they looked at Huo Jin, who hadn’t spoken.
“??? What are you all looking at me for? Do you think I’m that ungrateful? Anyway, boss and Goddess Ya can go with peace of mind! There are still three days before the mission’s deadline. We’ll definitely turn Santa Cruz City upside down to help you! I won’t feel sorry for the experience and artifacts in the secret realm, absolutely not!” Huo Jin said, patting his chest from his wheelchair.
Yingning looked apologetic. “I’m sorry. I know this might make everyone feel it’s unfair, but there’s no other choice… In a crisis, we have to do this. Okay, now, while the carnival is still going on, let’s try to get as much intelligence as possible from the elves.”
“Everyone, dismissed. Move out!”
