Chapter 27: The Price of a Promise: A Day of Obedience

“Very well, then you must obey my every command for the entire day.”

‘Yes, yes, whatever you say. Oh, why did something have to go wrong so suddenly? It’s all my fault for being so impulsive. I just hope Huang Beifeng doesn’t make any outrageous demands.’

While the silver-haired youth still chastised himself for his momentary impulsiveness, Huang Beifeng was secretly stifling her laughter.

“Hahaha, Luo Ye falls for things too easily. Truly a silly youth!”

In truth, Huang Beifeng’s file *had* initially gone missing, but a system backup had conveniently saved a copy, so there was never any real issue. However, she could hardly let such a perfect opportunity slip by. Naturally, she seized it as a pretext to ensure Luo Ye would obediently follow her every whim for the entire day.

Upon reflection, she had heard from Mu Rong Xin Xue that many of the clothes in Luo Ye’s wardrobe had never been worn, simply hanging there collecting dust—a truly appalling waste. Picturing Luo Ye in a variety of women’s outfits, each more distinct than the last, Huang Beifeng couldn’t help but excitedly lick her lips. The mere thought was thrilling.

Noticing Luo Ye’s questioning gaze, Huang Beifeng quickly composed her face, settling into a stubborn pout, as if still furious and utterly beyond appeasement.

Sighing softly, I looked at her still-puffed cheeks. I could only sigh in response. Though I had caught a flicker of excitement in her eyes, I reasoned it was likely just her anticipation of how best to torment me.

The two, harboring vastly different intentions, exchanged glances. Neither spoke, simply gathering their belongings and slowly exiting the house.

One, outwardly composed yet inwardly panicking, and the other, feigning lingering anger but secretly brimming with an almost ravenous excitement.

Back at school, I no longer found myself dozing off unexpectedly as I had that morning, nor did I collapse onto my desk the moment class ended. My behavior was, outwardly, quite normal. Yet, in the eyes of my classmates, something still seemed amiss. The story of this peculiar observation began when we first arrived at school.

Rewind an hour: fifteen minutes before class, we pushed open the classroom door and stepped inside. Just like yesterday, the room wasn’t yet crowded, and most students were engrossed in their textbooks, so our entrance went largely unnoticed.

“Luo Ye, fetch me a cup of water.”

Having barely settled into her seat, Huang Beifeng promptly produced a cup and placed it before me. “Go on, go on. You promised to obey me all day, so hurry up!”

Huang Beifeng’s voice was neither too loud nor too soft; it was just audible enough for everyone in the classroom to hear. Fortunately, no one bothered to look our way, so it hardly mattered. Still, Huang Beifeng, you really need to rein it in!

‘First, asking me to get water was tolerable. Then, sending me to the convenience store for snacks was also fine. But why did you use *my* money?!’

‘I’ll endure it, I’ll endure it. Luo Ye, you’re a boy. Since you promised to obey her for a day, you must see it through. Endure, just endure!’

‘Yet, after finishing your snacks, even though the trash can isn’t far from your seat, you still expect me to throw them away for you. Do you take me for your personal maid?’

‘Wait, maid? Why did that word come to mind?! Bah, what ‘maid’!’

Initially, my actions of fetching water for Huang Beifeng were considered entirely normal by our classmates, drawing no attention. However, as her demands grew more frequent, and I, bound by my promise, reluctantly complied with each one, it became apparent that something was amiss. Naturally, only a fool wouldn’t notice the strange dynamic; after all, who would repeatedly perform meaningless tasks for someone without a word of complaint?

Finally, after completing Huang Beifeng’s last immediate request, I could at last rest for a moment. It was precisely this respite that allowed me to notice, as I returned to my seat, that a considerable number of students had shifted their attention to us. They were even whispering about various topics that made my face flush.

“Why do you think Luo Ye helps Huang Beifeng with all these things?”

“Doesn’t it feel like Luo Ye is being forced?”

“There must be some hidden reason, right?”

“Perhaps it’s a secret affair. Isn’t there an idiom, ‘Zhou Yu beats Huang Gai—one willing to beat, the other willing to be beaten’? So, are Luo Ye and Huang Beifeng perhaps in a mutually agreeable situation? One commands, the other obeys.”

“It’s almost like a master and their pet! I’m so envious; I wish I had a cute pet like Luo Ye.”

Listening to their chatter, my already slightly flushed face burned crimson, as if it might bleed. ‘Seriously, what on earth are your minds filled with all day?! Hidden reasons, secret affairs, and that ‘pet’ comment—what nonsense is this?!’

Fortunately, the class bell rang just then, and the murmurs gradually faded until they disappeared entirely. However, before I could even compose myself, the bell for the next class abruptly rang. ‘What kind of trickery is this?! The lessons that used to drag on forever now fly by in an instant!’ I truly wondered what karmic debt I was paying. I’d only been in this class for two days, yet I already felt like the class’s notorious figure, with everyone discussing me.

Just then, Tang Xiao Rou approached me, her expression somewhat troubled. “Luo Ye, may I ask you something?”

Before I could reply, Tang Xiao Rou grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the classroom. Though I could have easily stopped her, my curiosity about where she was taking me prevented me from actively resisting. However, seeing the direction Tang Xiao Rou was leading me, I couldn’t help but freeze. ‘Wait, where on earth are you taking me?!'”
