X
A moment ago.
It was so dark, so suffocating.
Could this truly be how I would die, suffocated?
No! Not like this!
His consciousness, already hazy, was slowly slipping away. He knew that if it vanished entirely, he would be lost forever.
Ugh!
No!
Yet, his body felt impossibly heavy, devoid of any strength.
‘Was this truly the end for him?’
‘Is anyone there? Anyone at all, please, just someone to save me!’
“Oh, so you don’t wish to die? Then, lend me your body.”
‘Huh?’
‘Quickly, quickly, use it as you wish, use it however you like, as long as I don’t lose my life.’
Before his consciousness completely faded, he could only recall hearing a voice. What transpired afterward remained a blank.
After Mu Rong Luo Ye’s mind succumbed to unconsciousness, another voice abruptly pierced the void of silence.
“Hmph, finally awake. Tsk, only five seconds, you say? It will suffice.”
****
“Little one, blame the person before you. It is she who does not wish for you to live!”
As The Captor finished speaking, poised to snap Mu Rong Luo Ye’s neck, the struggling figure, whose eyes had been tightly shut, suddenly opened them.
“Wait, this is—”
Before The Captor’s eyes were not Mu Rong Luo Ye’s usual azure gaze, but a pair of chilling, blood-red irises!
“Hmph, is this all you amount to? Heh.”
Extending one hand, the possessed Mu Rong Luo Ye seized the hand that gripped him. In the same swift motion, his other hand slashed across The Captor’s chest.
“This body is far too weak.”
He had expected to cleave the opponent in two, yet the attack merely tore through flesh and muscle.
Observing the crimson droplets spray forth, the hand that had just struck swept them into his palm before they could scatter.
“Tch, such poor blood quality, utterly unappetizing. Hmph, five seconds are up.”
As the possessed entity dispersed the blood droplets, Mo Yuyan’s long whip simultaneously coiled around Mu Rong Luo Ye’s arm, pulling him swiftly to safety.
In that very instant, the sanguine hue in Mu Rong Luo Ye’s eyes receded, returning to their natural shade.
“Tsk, only five seconds of activity? The meager energy I gathered is already depleted. Hmph, no matter. Once this body is truly mine, I shall return. Heh…”
****
Ugh.
His consciousness slowly returned, his face feeling warm and pleasantly comfortable.
Mm.
His vision gradually sharpened, allowing him to discern the objects before him.
Wait, cake?
‘Why was there cake and other refreshments before his eyes?’
‘Could this be heaven’s welcome gift?’
As his senses fully returned, he realized the surface he was on felt remarkably soft, yet distinctly different from a bed or sofa.
Hold on, something felt amiss.
He glanced up, only to discover he was being held.
Eh? Eh?
‘Wait, this situation was entirely wrong! Moments ago, he had been at death’s door, so why had everything suddenly become so peaceful and serene?’
‘Hold on, that face looked familiar. He tilted his head slightly, peeking upwards. That face… hiss! Wasn’t that the Ice Queen senior sister?’
Hiss!
Scrambling free from her embrace, he quickly curled up at the edge of the sofa chair, hugging himself tightly and maintaining as much distance as possible from Mo Yuyan.
“S-S-Senior sister, hello! W-w-why am I here?”
However, as his words tumbled out, Mo Yuyan seemed not to have shifted her attention. Instead, she gazed intently at the spot where she had just held him.
For reasons unknown, as Mu Rong Luo Ye pulled away, Mo Yuyan subtly sensed a faint pang of disappointment within herself.
She continued to stare at the empty space where Mu Rong Luo Ye had been. After a long moment, Mo Yuyan finally shifted her gaze to him.
“Are you alright?”
“Eh? What do you mean, ‘alright’? I’m perfectly fine!”
“Do you recall what happened earlier?”
‘What happened earlier?’
‘Hiss! He almost lost his life! How could he possibly forget?’
‘Wait, he had nearly died, yet now he was awake and seeing Senior Sister. Did that mean she had saved him?’
“Um, Senior Sister, thank you.”
He sheepishly stuck out his tongue. Honestly, Senior Sister had saved him, so why was he reacting as if she were a villain?
Tsk, truly.
After he composed himself, regaining his normal demeanor, Senior Sister finally spoke.
“There’s no need for apologies. It was my oversight, failing to resolve the situation from the start.”
Eh?
