Join the ServerI couldn’t figure out why, but after parting ways with my senior, I felt a bit down. How strange.
I glanced at the bag in my hand, stuffed with several packed lunch boxes. There were probably a few too many, but given how long it had been since breakfast, I figured they’d be at least a little hungry.
Even if they did finish everything, there wouldn’t be much left over—not that I could guarantee it.
And why were people staring at me as I walked through the hospital? I winced. There was nothing on my face, was there?
Earlier, walking with my senior, I’d felt it too. They weren’t just looking at me; they were zeroing in on my face, as though something was really there.
But perhaps because my senior absorbed some of those gazes, the staring didn’t unsettle me as much.
But now, more and more eyes were fixed on me. Some people even pointed, apparently using me as a lesson for their kids.
How strange. What was going on?
Could there really be something on my face? That shouldn’t be possible.
As the stares multiplied, so did my embarrassment from their looks and pointing.
I couldn’t spare a hand to take out my phone and use it as a mirror, so I hurried my steps and slipped into the elevator just as the doors were closing.
Once inside the elevator, the staring eyes vanished, and the pressure lifted.
Still, the person beside me couldn’t help but scan me from head to toe.
A middle-aged woman standing nearby even shook her head and said something. Her voice wasn’t loud, but the whole elevator could hear.
“Girls these days don’t know the meaning of self-respect,” she said. “They don’t take care of themselves.”
That’s what she said.
Hearing that, I nearly choked—even though I didn’t have anything in my mouth.
What “girls”? I’m a boy! How did that suddenly turn into a lecture on self-respect?
This only fueled my curiosity. What was happening? Was there actually something on my face?
I waited for the elevator to reach the fourth floor. This time, I used the plush toy I was carrying to cover one side of my face. Perhaps because there really was something there, once I hid it, the staring stopped.
Phew, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Tang Xiao Rou had texted me earlier—they were in Room 202. Better find it first.
Room 202 should be next to 201, but I didn’t know if I was heading in the right direction. I glanced at the nearest room—it was 211.
Tch, wrong direction. Room 202 must be at the other end. I quickly turned around, impatient to discover what weird thing was on my face.
There weren’t many people today, so the hallway was rather empty. At least I didn’t have to squeeze through.
509…208…207
As I watched the room numbers go by, I got closer to 202. Eventually, I stopped in front of a door—Room 202.
I pushed the door open and walked in. The room was empty except for the three of them. Huang Beifeng was already awake; Tang Xiao Rou and Can Ye were sitting on the other bed, chatting about something.
“I’m here.”
The moment I stepped in, all their eyes landed on me.
“Finally decided to show up, huh?” one of them said. “Out having fun again, coming back this late?”
Uh, could I admit I spent the entire noon with my senior? I looked at the wall clock—it was almost two in the afternoon.
I winced. I really hadn’t noticed how fast time passed. Well, sorry. I should’ve left around twelve, but I ended up wasting so much time.
You guys must be hungry. I’m really sorry.
“Something came up, so I’m late,” I said, placing the bag on the bedside table next to Huang Beifeng.
“I just ordered whatever. Make do with it.”
I quickly took out the packed lunch boxes and handed one to each of them.
However, when I handed Huang Beifeng hers, her expression changed slightly.
“This? This is what you call random stuff? These must have cost at least a four-digit number altogether!”
Luckily, her voice was low enough that Tang Xiao Rou and Can Ye didn’t hear.
If they had heard, they’d surely insist on paying their share.
That put me in a really awkward spot. On one hand, if they didn’t chip in, they’d feel they owed me; if they did, it would be a big expense for them. Plus, it made me look like I wasn’t being practical, just splurging without considering the reality.
Tang Xiao Rou and Can Ye probably couldn’t identify the prices—I’d disguised it to look like ordinary food.
Huang Beifeng, however, was a rich girl, so she could tell how much it cost.
“Where did you get so much money?”
Just then, as I was handing out the boxes, I lowered my hand that was holding the plush toy.
So Huang Beifeng saw my face clearly. The moment she did, she was stunned.
“I think I know where you got the money. You… you didn’t go do compensated dating, did you?”
