Chapter 84: Into the Lair Through the Vent

The reason for choosing the ventilation shaft rather than spending a few minutes looking for a key was that Mo Yuyan intended to head straight to the enemy’s lair for observation, catching them off guard. This was the only way to achieve the element of surprise.

After all, a single camera’s field of view was far too limited. More importantly, she needed more information to confirm whether they had already begun their operation.

She had to stop them before they acted, or else she’d have to deal with a cascade of consequences later.

True, the leader might have arrived, but if she always had to handle things personally, wouldn’t that imply the rest of them were just freeloaders?

Then again, freeloading did sound rather nice.

But that was beside the point.

Having located the enemy’s lair and learned of their extensive surveillance network, the best way to avoid alerting them was to crawl through this ventilation shaft all the way to their base. That would bypass their watchful eyes, allowing her to infiltrate unnoticed.

Based on the internal layout she’d glimpsed when she broke in earlier, Mo Yuyan had essentially confirmed that the ventilation ducts ran throughout the entire maze. In other words, she could use these ducts to sneak in directly.

This way, she could avoid any encounters with their lookouts and avoid giving away her presence.

Now that she had a plan, it was time to execute it. As for Luo Ye, she’d just bring him along. That way, there’d be no risk of accidents. She’d go up first, then pull that silver-haired loli up after.

Just as she was about to start, however, she noticed that the silver-haired loli had frozen in place for some reason.

“What’s wrong?”

“Um, senior, couldn’t we use a more normal method? Like finding a key and opening the door?”

Rough estimation put the height of this ventilation opening at least two or three meters. Climbing up would be tough, especially since the cover was closed tight with only a few slits for ventilation. Without any handholds, it was nearly impossible.

And even if she did manage to climb up, would there even be enough room inside the ducts for them to move around?

It all seemed rather impractical.

But at that moment, Mo Yuyan proved with her actions that all her worries were unfounded.

She had thought that Senior Mo Yuyan would move the bed over and use it as a step to reach the vent. Instead, she simply said, “Don’t worry,” then leaped straight up. Because her body blocked the view, she couldn’t see exactly how she opened the vent.

But she could see that once the cover was off, Mo Yuyan’s arms had already grabbed the edge securely, and her entire body quickly disappeared into the shaft.

The whole thing happened so fast it took her by surprise. Senior was truly incredible. How could she casually jump two or three meters high? That was just too amazing.

But there was no time to dwell on her astonishment. After Mo Yuyan climbed up, a black rope descended slowly along the wall. So she was supposed to climb the rope?

She walked over to the wall and gave the rope a gentle tug. It seemed quite sturdy—probably tied off somewhere above. As she climbed, Mo Yuyan pulled from the other end, hoisting her up as well.

The space inside the duct was a bit wider than she had imagined. The height was about half a meter, and the width, while making it difficult to turn around, was otherwise fine.

Movement was manageable, though crawling on all fours felt awkward—like a quadruped. But at least it was better than slithering along and dirtying her clothes.

She felt a bit relieved that Senior was in front. If Senior had been behind her, wearing a skirt as she was, wouldn’t everything be exposed?

Hiss, just thinking about it gave her chills. She hoped there wouldn’t be any need to turn around later. That would be so embarrassing. Even with safety shorts, having someone see up her skirt would be mortifying.

Luckily, that didn’t happen. If it had, it would have been a disaster.

Letting out a small sigh of relief, she continued following Mo Yuyan, moving slowly.

At first, she struggled to keep up, constantly falling behind. But when Mo Yuyan looked back and saw the distance, she would stop and wait until she caught up before moving on.

After several rounds of stop-and-go, she gradually matched her pace, and the number of stops decreased.

Once she could keep up, Mo Yuyan no longer paused, and their efficiency increased significantly.

However, as they ventured deeper, she felt as though she were sinking into a bottomless abyss.

Yet the farther they went, the closer they got to the abyss, and the more curious she became about what lay ahead.

When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back. Step by step, they approached, and the sense of imminent danger grew stronger.

Just then, a faint glimmer of light appeared ahead. Mo Yuyan turned back and gestured for her to head toward the light.

As she moved forward, Mo Yuyan continued a few more steps until her figure disappeared around a corner. Probably she needed to turn around and found a convenient spot.

After a moment, Mo Yuyan turned and came back toward her. Their eyes met, and she wondered what Senior was planning.

Mo Yuyan made a shushing gesture while gently lifting the vent cover beneath them. Peering through the opening, she was startled by the scene below.

So this was it!
