Chapter 45: The Hostage’s Disdainful Smile

The jinx had indeed come true.

‘Why was it precisely us who got caught?!’

The incident had unfolded with such suddenness that, just as I attempted to struggle, I discovered I was utterly bereft of strength.

Cough. I was suffocating.

I could only perceive that whatever held me was moving at an incredible speed. However, my vision had grown so indistinct that I could not clearly discern what it was.

But with such a massive frame, such a bulky physique, could it truly run so swiftly? Was this truly a normal person?

Cough.

Faintly, the voices of Huang Beifeng and the others could still be heard from behind me.

“Mu Rong Luo Ye! Damn it, what is happening?!”

Watching the figure that had, in an instant, left them far behind, Huang Beifeng could only clench her jaw, biting down hard on her lip.

“Damn it! We can’t possibly catch up without a car.”

If only they had a vehicle, she vowed. Otherwise, Huang Beifeng would have ensured the culprit regretted snatching someone right under her nose.

“So what do we do now?”

Tang Xiao Rou watched Huang Beifeng with a profound sense of anxiety. The suddenness of the event was staggering; she had never imagined such a thing could occur when they had simply intended to enjoy some dessert.

“What else can we do? We can’t catch them. Call the police! The traffic cameras here should have captured it. It’s our only option now.”

“Come on! Keep going, you crazy girl!” Gazing at Mu Rong Luo Ye, whom he now held firmly, the man realized that having a hostage made his situation considerably more manageable.

Indeed, as the whistling wind once more surged from behind, the man immediately used Mu Rong Luo Ye as a human shield, positioning him directly in front.

“Tsk.”

Observing his maneuver, Mo Yuyan was compelled to alter her whip’s trajectory. She redirected it with a snap, striking a trash can situated beside the man instead.

The sight of the shattered trash can brought a faint, triumphant smirk to the man’s lips.

“Hmph, little girl, you’re still far too green. I’m beginning to wonder if you and that other person are even the same. What’s this, going soft already? Come on!”

As the man continued his relentless sprint, Mo Yuyan’s attack frequency visibly began to decrease.

“[Miss, the markers are increasing and converging on your position. He might be trying to lure you into an encirclement.]”

Hearing Lan Baiyuan’s voice through her communicator, Mo Yuyan merely cast a fleeting glance at the man below, then raised her long whip once more.

“Then let him follow me.”

This time, her aim was not the man himself. Instead, Mo Yuyan targeted the areas directly to his sides.

After several such precisely aimed attacks, the man was left with no choice but to alter his direction, running precisely into the path Mo Yuyan had orchestrated.

Fortunately, the city district offered no shortage of rooftops for Mo Yuyan to traverse. Maintaining her elevated position and keeping her target below in sight was hardly a challenge.

However, as the man rounded a corner into an alleyway, Mo Yuyan executed a graceful backflip, landing steadily on the ground.

“Don’t come any closer, unless you want her to die.”

Though he knew he was cornered, having a hostage in hand gave him a semblance of control, tempering his fear.

Without uttering a single word, Mo Yuyan advanced steadily, her long whip held ready.

“Hey, this is all your own doing! Little one, don’t blame me. If you must blame someone, blame that crazy girl in front of you.”

A cruel smile twisted his lips as he pressed down on Mu Rong Luo Ye’s head, appearing ready to twist it off the next second.

“Farewell! It’s not bad to have someone to take down with me.”

But just then, he vaguely sensed something amiss with Mu Rong Luo Ye, whose throat he had seized.

“Wait!”

“You, you, you, you!”

There was no trace of the fear he had anticipated. Instead, he saw a smile—a sneering, utterly disdainful smile, as if a superior were looking down upon an inferior.

It was then that Mu Rong Luo Ye suddenly extended an arm, forcefully pushing against the hand that gripped him. With his other hand, he slashed across the man’s body, sending faint red droplets of blood scattering.

“You!”

Yet, at that precise moment, Mo Yuyan’s long whip suddenly appeared, coiling around Mu Rong Luo Ye’s arm. She expertly pulled him to safety.

As Mu Rong Luo Ye was securely drawn into Mo Yuyan’s embrace, no one noticed the fleeting crimson glint in his eyes.

“Cough, hah, how could this be, how could this be…”

Clutching his chest, the man couldn’t comprehend how Mu Rong Luo Ye had managed it. Yet, the sharp, momentary sting confirmed the wound was undeniably real. But where was the blood? There had been droplets just moments ago, so why had they vanished the instant Mu Rong Luo Ye was pulled away?

Due to this very anomaly, Mo Yuyan, for a moment, failed to notice the strangeness of the situation. She was merely surprised that Mu Rong Luo Ye possessed the ability to fight back.

Had it not been for the sudden turn of events causing the captor to release Mu Rong Luo Ye, reclaiming him so effortlessly would have been impossible. It would have required at least a slight expenditure of effort.

“Heh, so this is how it is! Then, you shall all perish with me!”

As his words fell, the man ripped open his clothes, revealing the bomb concealed beneath.

“Come, let us all die together!”
