After Lu Xingyao departed, the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau in Xian City once again reached out to Bai Yu.
This immediately startled Bai Yu, who assumed another troublesome matter had found its way to her doorstep.
However, it transpired that the call concerned matters related to Xian City International High School.
“Hello, is this Bai Yu? I am the Director of the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau in Xian City.”
“Uh, what is it? I’m quite busy at the moment.”
Bai Yu harbored no desire to engage with him, fearing yet another assignment; she had, after all, made it clear that her status was merely that of an unofficial, honorary member.
“Oh, it’s nothing major, it won’t take up too much of your precious time.”
The Director’s obsequious tone struck Bai Yu as rather amusing; picturing the usually arrogant man in such a meek state made her struggle to maintain her composure.
Yet, Bai Yu was no demon, nor would she ever stoop to petty tattling, for such actions were entirely unbefitting her gentle nature.
“Alright, alright, just tell me what’s on your mind.”
Bai Yu’s mood brightened considerably, so much so that the stray strand of hair on her head seemed to perk up in tandem.
“It’s like this, esteemed Bai Yu, the institution you previously attended was Xian City International High School, was it not?”
The Director inquired, his voice laced with a hint of trepidation.
“Indeed, what of it? I heard the Principal of that school was apprehended for being an outlaw Arcanist, and the institution itself has since been sealed.”
Bai Yu had already been informed of this matter by Lu Xingyao, confirming the Director’s relative sluggishness.
“Ah, so you’re already aware, esteemed Bai Yu? That certainly simplifies matters. I was merely calling to discuss this very issue.”
The Director’s spirits lifted considerably; truly, she was the hero who had saved Xian City, her grasp on intelligence proving utterly formidable.
“What is it? I wasn’t particularly acquainted with that Principal, so inquiring about the specifics with me would be futile.”
Bai Yu stated her position clearly and concisely, expressing her reluctance to become entangled in such troublesome affairs.
“No, no, esteemed Bai Yu, I am certainly not referring to that. The Principal has, in all likelihood, already been eliminated by the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau; however, locating the remains will require some time, so you needn’t concern yourself with that particular detail.”
“Oh? In that case, what exactly do you require of me?”
Bai Yu inquired, a hint of confusion lacing her voice.
“It is thus, esteemed Bai Yu, that Principal, did she not possess numerous collections at Xian City International High School? The library and storage rooms there were, in theory, her private holdings. Now that she has been apprehended, these items have naturally been confiscated, as she had no opportunity to relocate them.”
The Director spoke with utmost caution, wary that his words might displease Bai Yu.
“I see, and so?”
A surge of excitement coursed through Bai Yu’s heart; if that library and storage room truly held such treasures, particularly the library with its vast trove of knowledge on arcanism and the arcane, it would be invaluable.
For a nascent Arcanist such as herself, it promised an unparalleled boon.
While the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau had pledged to supply all her advancement materials up to Tier 4, the acquisition of arcanism knowledge itself was not part of their provision.
Possessing this library would undoubtedly accelerate her acquisition of knowledge exponentially.
Indeed, in the world of Arcanists, the adage ‘knowledge is wealth’ resonated as an undeniable truth.
Within the realm of Arcanists, no free libraries existed for casual perusal, rendering the value of such a collection self-evident.
The Director’s underlying intention had, by now, become abundantly clear.
For while the Dragon Summer Investigation Bureau headquarters had indeed bestowed a reward upon Bai Yu, it was, in truth, a paltry sum when weighed against her substantial contributions.
It was then that Bai Yu truly understood; they had been setting the stage for this very moment.
Given the circumstances, she would grudgingly accept.
The Director’s voice, meanwhile, continued to emanate from the receiver.
“It’s nothing, really. The school is abandoned regardless, and those items hold little utility for us. They would undoubtedly find their true purpose and flourish under your care.”
“And as the prospective disciple of esteemed Bai Yu, with your astonishing talent…we would be pleased to place them at your disposal. Furthermore, should you require any other areas of the school, arrangements can be made; it lies abandoned, after all, and this serves as our token of gratitude.”
The Director, devoid of any pretense, simply yearned for a smooth and uneventful retirement.
‘Hmm… so that’s the situation.’
Bai Yu feigned an air of reluctance, as if the matter posed a considerable challenge.
‘Ah, very well. I had no intention of accepting any thanks or rewards, but since these items once belonged to an outlaw Arcanist, I suppose I shall grudgingly ensure they are put to proper use.’
‘This is for the best, indeed, for the best!’
Upon hearing Bai Yu accept the reward, the Director exhaled a palpable sigh of relief, realizing she was no mere hot-headed idealist.
Otherwise, he would have been subjected to considerable hardship, making this, by far, the most favorable resolution.
“Oh, and by the way, esteemed Bai Yu, your honorary investigator uniform and medal have already been delivered, along with the keys to Xian City International High School’s library and storage rooms. They were all dispatched simultaneously.”
“I understand.”
Bai Yu gave a brief nod, then ended the call.
At that very moment, the doorbell chimed, signaling the arrival of the promised items.
Bai Yu opened the door to find only two packages resting on the ground, with no one else discernible.
A faint, ethereal spiritual aura subtly permeated the surrounding air.
She surmised it must have been delivered through the use of some wondrous item or a specialized arcanism.
Bai Yu murmured to herself, contemplating the utility of learning such a spatial transfer arcanism, as it could prove exceptionally useful on occasion.
Gathering the packages, she retreated back into her room.
Truly befitting a professional organization’s uniform, the craftsmanship proved remarkably exquisite.
Bai Yu examined the two sets of honorary investigator uniforms; their black and white palette, accented by a Gothic aesthetic, diverged entirely from her initial expectations.
She had anticipated an unsightly design, yet they surprisingly aligned well with her personal aesthetic.
The ensemble included both a skirt and a trouser set; the skirt appeared to be a formal gown, while the trousers were evidently intended for combat.
Moreover, judging by the material, it was clearly no ordinary fabric, suggesting its defensive properties were likely quite formidable.
‘I wonder if it possesses any resistance against arcanism.’
“Not bad at all.”
Bai Yu hung the garments, and, with a casual gesture, affixed the award to one of the uniforms.
As she lifted the medal, however, she realized, to her astonishment, that it was, in fact, a wondrous item!
It was akin to the Knight’s Badge Cecilia had previously bestowed upon her.
That particular Knight’s Badge would also manifest special effects when spiritual energy was infused, which was precisely how the message instructing Bai Yu to meet on the rooftop had appeared.
Furthermore, it possessed the potent ability to ward off a single fatal attack, a power Bai Yu now carried with her constantly.
This new medal, however, held an even more astonishing secret: it was inscribed with a complete arcanism.
As Bai Yu infused it with spiritual energy, a deluge of knowledge pertaining to the arcanism instantly surged into her mind, granting her instantaneous mastery.
Concurrently, the award itself shed its wondrous item properties, reverting to a mere ordinary accolade.
“This is incredible!”
Bai Yu was utterly astounded; such a wondrous item, capable of bestowing instant mastery of arcanism, was truly beyond belief.

Moweila’s voice drifted into her mind, but Bai Yu disregarded it, instead focusing intently on exploring the newly acquired arcanism.
It proved to be an auxiliary ability, an arcanism remarkably well-suited for the role of an investigator.
It was no wonder, then, that this arcanism was embedded within the honorary medal; it likely served as a fundamental ability.
Nevertheless, it was a valuable acquisition, for its effects would undoubtedly amplify in potency as the user’s rank ascended.
For Bai Yu, possessing an additional stealth ability promised considerable utility.
