What are you talking about?
Bai Yu immediately feigned ignorance, unwilling to confess without being pressed.
“There’s no need to hide, Witch-sama. Don’t you wish to know the truth of the matter?”
The purple-haired woman’s face flushed even deeper, as if some peculiar transformation was on the verge of occurring.
‘This person is truly a pervert!’
Bai Yu’s mind was a flurry of complaints, leading her to even lower the scythe from the woman’s neck and retreat several steps.
Bai Yu was now quite reluctant to approach the woman.
Upon seeing Bai Yu’s actions, the woman’s composure instantly shattered.
“Are you truly serious about taking half a step back?”
She immediately made an exaggerated gesture of heartbreak.
“Stop pretending. Who exactly are you?”
Bai Yu stated gravely, having no desire to play games with this peculiar woman.
“Oh my, oh my. Since Witch-sama has spoken, allow me to introduce myself.”
The purple-haired woman curtsied once more, her enchanting voice resonating as she spoke.
“From the Witch Council, Lilith.”
Hearing this, Bai Yu looked at Lilith with surprise, as it was not her first encounter with the mention of the Witch Council’s existence.
After all, when she had just become a Witch, Lu Xingyao had explained to her about the few beings in this world who possessed a spiritual core of a Witch.
All of them belonged to an organization known as the Witch Council, though Bai Yu was not entirely clear on the specifics of its operations.
At this revelation, Bai Yu temporarily lowered her guard, for she could vaguely surmise the truth of the matter.
“Witch Council, what business do you have with me? I don’t recall any dealings with your organization.”
Bai Yu’s voice was frigid.
At this moment, Bai Yu no longer maintained her vigilant posture, instead settling directly into a nearby seat.
She was, after all, still within the sub-space created by Lilith, where numerous outdoor mall seats lay vacant, utterly devoid of people.
“Witch-sama jest. You must have already guessed the truth behind your transformation into a Witch, haven’t you?”
Lilith merely smiled, opting not to directly answer Bai Yu’s question.
“That individual who impersonated my Mother—were they sent by you?”
Bai Yu’s expression soured, as the agony of her transformation into a Witch was still vivid in her memory.
While her current situation was favorable, it hardly served as a reason to forgive such an act.
“Of course not. How could we possibly harm you, Witch-sama? Furthermore, I have no desire to be an enemy of your Mother.”
Lilith spoke with deference, her demeanor suggesting no deceit.
“That person merely requested from us a method to transform individuals into Dark Spiritual Cores. It truly had nothing to do with us.”
Lilith’s words drew a scoff from Bai Yu.
‘She had never encountered such shamelessness.’
“You undoubtedly knew I was her target, didn’t you? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have so readily employed that book.”
Bai Yu was referring to the Witch of the End’s manuscript, which contained the remnant soul of Moweila.
“Witch-sama is indeed prescient. It was precisely because we knew you were the target that we utilized such a precious item.”
Lilith remarked with a smile.
“Moreover, if it hadn’t been for us, Witch-sama might very well have been ensnared by that scoundrel. One could even say we were the ones who rescued you.”
“After all, had we not provided that book, the scoundrel might have directly attacked Witch-sama. In such a scenario, who knows how things might have unfolded?”
It’s not certain.
Bai Yu saw no need to waste further words on Moweila. Even if the woman impersonating her Mother had directly attacked her, Bai Yu was still protected by the secret arts her Mother had bestowed upon her.
However, in that case, Bai Yu would not have become the person she was now.
Though Bai Yu remained unaware of the Witch Council’s ultimate objective, for her, the current outcome was the most favorable.
Therefore, Bai Yu had no intention of pursuing the matter further.
“What is that person’s name?”
Bai Yu inquired, intending, of course, to relay the information to her Mother. After all, this individual had genuinely sought to harm her, and Bai Yu knew her Mother was actively searching for this very person.
“Kareila.”
Lilith shrugged, revealing the name of her former collaborator without hesitation, for how could such a person possibly compare to Witch-sama?
“Kareila, then. I understand.”
Bai Yu nodded, confident that Lilith would not deceive her.
“So, Witch-sama, might you indulge a small request of mine~?”
Lilith’s face flushed crimson, her eyes fixated solely on Bai Yu. Bai Yu genuinely feared she might lunge forward at any moment.
“What exactly do you want?”
Bai Yu questioned, perplexed, unable to fathom why the Witch Council had gone to such great lengths to transform her into a Witch.
[They did not transform you into a Witch; rather, you are the only one capable of becoming a Witch. Do you understand? I told you before, this is your destiny.]
Moweila suddenly interjected at this point, explaining to Bai Yu with a resigned tone.
“What do we want? Why, for Witch-sama to lead us in restoring the Witches to their former glory, of course.”
Lilith pressed closer to Bai Yu, her eyes brimming with admiration.
She indignantly pushed Bai Yu away, stating without reservation: “Unlike us imposters, you are perfect. Only you can restore the Witches to their past brilliance.”
Lilith spoke with fervent excitement, much like a devotee beholding a revered deity.
“Hey, Moweila, what is this person talking about?”
Bai Yu felt somewhat bewildered. ‘Why does it sound like some kind of cult? I didn’t even know I was that amazing.’
[It’s likely due to their spiritual cores, an innate reverence for a true Witch. After all, flawed creations always yearn for genuine perfection.]
Moweila remarked dismissively, harboring little affection for these “Witches.”
Being fundamentally human, they held no interest for Moweila.
“Calling them ‘flawed creations’ is a bit harsh, isn’t it?”
Bai Yu was somewhat speechless. ‘Who would be happy to be called a flawed creation?’
Moreover, their humble demeanor made Bai Yu feel awkward about refusing them.
Bai Yu scratched her head before replying to Lilith.
“While your sincerity is evident, I truly don’t know how to restore the Witches to their former glory. Even if you find me, it won’t be of much use.”
Bai Yu spoke plainly, for she was no omnipotent deity.
“You don’t need to do anything, Witch-sama. Merely joining the Witch Council will suffice.”
Lilith promptly rushed over and seized Bai Yu’s hand, her eyes practically sparkling with adoration.
“Whatever your needs may be, you can contact me—even *those* kinds of needs, too~ My body exists solely for Witch-sama.”
Lilith’s words were utterly startling, prompting Bai Yu to quickly release her hand. ‘She actually harbors such thoughts!’
Yet, Lilith held fast to Bai Yu’s hand, refusing to let go, and even leaned closer, deeply inhaling Bai Yu’s scent.
