Bai Yu felt the wings behind her, a sensation both familiar and alien, which filled her with a peculiar novelty.
It was familiar because the intense pain had allowed her to swiftly master the function of her wings.
Yet, it felt alien because these suddenly sprouted wings evoked a strange, persistent feeling within her.
It was akin to phantom limb pain, though these were undeniably real limbs, or perhaps not quite ‘limbs’ in the traditional sense, as Bai Yu sensed she could retract them.
However, currently soaring through the sky, Bai Yu could not simply retract her wings, lest she plummet directly to the ground.
Observing her wings beat through the air, their movements were remarkably slow, seemingly defying the laws of physics.
Evidently, her wings primarily served to guide spiritual energy; actual flight still necessitated spiritual energy itself.
Despite this, Bai Yu felt that if she exerted her full strength in beating her wings, she could certainly ascend faster.
Yet, such frantic movements would detract from the aesthetic, as only this slow, graceful pace conveyed a sense of sanctity.
Then, her gaze fell upon the long, golden hair cascading down her back.
A wave of exasperation washed over Bai Yu; it seemed her hair color shifted after every ritual, as if she were a regular at a dye salon.
She quickly retrieved a mirror, discovering her eyes had also transformed, now a brilliant crimson, like polished rubies.
‘Well, it looks quite good,’ she mused. ‘And it should be reversible.’
Bai Yu sighed, already accustomed to her ever-changing forms.
All in all, the ritual had been a resounding success.
Bai Yu stood with her hands on her hips in the sky, gazing at the distant sun, sensing that the closer she drew to it, the more potent the flames within her grew.
She extended her hand, and crimson flames erupted from her palm.
This time, the fire burned steadily in her hand, as if possessing its own temperature, without imparting the slightest sensation of heat to Bai Yu.
According to Moweila, this particular flame was likely Heaven’s Fire, or perhaps the Holy Flame.
Bai Yu observed the flame; its deep crimson hue truly differed from ordinary orange-yellow fire, resembling liquid blood instead.
Simultaneously, Bai Yu perceived a powerful, surging force welling up within her body.
Her blood circulated, now imbued with an immense, boundless energy.
She casually retrieved a common fruit knife from her storage.
Ordinarily, such a blade would have struggled to inflict any harm on her, even before her recent transformation.
Bai Yu examined her arm, its skin fair and flawless, so delicate it felt as if a touch could draw water from it.
Nevertheless, Bai Yu hesitated not at all, plunging the fruit knife fiercely into her arm.
The anticipated sting never arrived; instead, the fruit knife merely pressed a shallow indentation into her skin before its entire blade shattered instantly.
It didn’t merely break; it disintegrated into countless fragments, as if made of paper.
Bai Yu paused, dumbfounded; such an exaggerated increase in defense was truly astonishing.
After a moment of contemplation, she produced another fruit knife, though this one was not ordinary, but rather an artifact, naturally sourced from the storage room of Xian City International High School.
These items held little significant use, initially intended by Bai Yu as disposable tools for dispatching minor enemies.
Unexpectedly, it now proved useful.
Infusing spiritual energy, Bai Yu plunged the artifact knife forcefully into her arm.
This time, Bai Yu held nothing back, confident in her potent self-healing abilities and her immunity to such minor injuries.
Heaven’s Fire could even sterilize wounds directly, ensuring she would never again fear illness.
The knife pierced Bai Yu’s arm.
As the blade’s tip touched Bai Yu’s skin, a faint spiritual fluctuation rippled forth, a testament to the sheer power of this attack.
It was an assault comparable to the full-force strike of an Arcanist of equal rank.
However, the light endured for only a fleeting moment before utterly dissolving into shimmering silver-white particles that vanished into the air.
With a soft *ping*, even the hilt was gone.
“I absolutely refuse to believe it this time!”
Bai Yu felt a surge of indignation; the inability to even breach her own defenses would surely invite ridicule.
[Blade of the Faceless Moon]
Bai Yu once more pulled out a fruit knife, this time not only infusing it with ample spiritual energy but also employing an arcanum, determined to defy this ‘evil.’
Moweila watched Bai Yu’s actions with an expression akin to someone observing an idiot; never before had she witnessed an individual testing their own defensive capabilities in such a manner.
However, knowing there was no actual danger involved, she paid Bai Yu’s antics no mind.
It was perfectly natural for a child to display such curiosity upon discovering a new toy.
Indeed, to Moweila, Bai Yu often seemed like a child.
Her personality and appearance certainly reinforced that impression…
Under the arcanum’s enhancement, the fruit knife transformed into a sharp rapier, gleaming with the light of the silver moon, its tip focusing on Bai Yu’s arm.
A massive ripple emanated, even scattering the clouds surrounding Bai Yu, yet her skin remained unpierced.
Bai Yu frowned, intensifying her spiritual energy once more.
Finally, with continuous spiritual infusion, a minuscule breach appeared in Bai Yu’s skin.
“Success!”
Bai Yu delightedly observed the single drop of blood she had managed to squeeze out, though it seemed barely enough to even be called blood.
She mused that she would likely never need a blood draw at a hospital again.
Before Bai Yu could even register any pain, a tiny wisp of steam rose from her arm, and the wound instantly healed.
The solitary drop of blood slid down Bai Yu’s arm and plummeted from the sky.
Bai Yu paid it no mind; it was merely a drop of blood, inconsequential.
[I advise you not to let that drop of blood fall into the sea. Haven’t you noticed your blood is a bit unusual?]
Moweila murmured, a hint of amusement coloring her tone.
“Unusual?”
Bai Yu recalled the drop of blood from moments ago; it truly was unlike her previous blood.
Previously, her blood would instantly dry in the air, but that particular drop was like mercury—full-bodied and even emitting a golden glow.
“No, wait!”
A terrifying thought suddenly struck Bai Yu, and she immediately flapped her wings, plummeting downwards.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Bai Yu reached her maximum speed, breaking the sound barrier in an instant.
Her precise vision immediately located the falling drop of blood, but it was already too late; the blood sank into the vast expanse of the sea at the very last moment.
Bai Yu swiftly altered her trajectory, rushing towards the cruise ship.
“Activate defenses, now!”
Bai Yu shouted, her voice carrying across to Captain Li Hua on the ship.
Captain Li Hua looked up at the golden-haired girl in the sky, momentarily stunned, but nonetheless activated the ship’s defenses.
Almost the instant the defenses engaged, a violent explosion erupted on the sea, with superheated steam carrying scalding seawater, forming a terrifying, high-temperature tsunami that surged outwards in all directions.
It was an even more ferocious wave than the tsunami caused by the previous missile.
“I think I might have caused some trouble…”
Cold sweat trickled down Bai Yu’s face as she watched the massive explosion unfurl across the sea.
