Chapter 153: The Audfoger Revelation

Saide’s heart instantly sank as he listened to the Maiden’s words.

At this moment, pain and fury intertwined within him, brimming with resentment towards the organization and anger towards the two girls.

‘Why had they sought him out? He was merely a coward, serving the organization only to survive. What fault could be found in that?’

Shortly after, Resse led his subordinates in transporting all the grain and supplies from the carriage into their underground stronghold.

They gathered around Saide, their expressions uniformly grave.

“Saide, this is your last chance. Tell us everything, without a single lie.”

Resse spoke in a relatively calm tone, though he was clearly struggling to rein in his surging anger.

After all, he valued Laika’s counsel. He knew that using force alone could never win genuine approval.

“Alright, I’ll talk. I’ll tell you everything.”

Moved to tears, Saide began to speak rapidly, recounting everything without a hint of falsehood.

He had suddenly encountered two noble maidens, whose identities he couldn’t discern. Their words were an incomprehensible jumble.

Saide had no idea why he would stumble upon nobles in such a desolate wilderness. Weren’t those people supposed to remain within the core district?

Saide felt utterly cursed by misfortune. He had only embarked on this reckless, life-threatening endeavor because he believed the risks were minimal.

Otherwise, even with a hundred times his courage, he would never dare to defy the nobles and the Church, much less supply resources to such a villainous organization.

Saide was now consumed by profound regret. Had he known things would unfold this way, he would never have involved himself.

Saide, on the verge of tears, poured out every detail.

Listening to Saide’s confession, everyone was filled with doubt.

These individuals, whether nobles or from the Church, were behaving entirely differently from what they had anticipated.

Under normal circumstances, Saide would have been executed on the spot, and their food supplies seized immediately.

Had they been from the Church, Saide would likely have faced public execution, made an example for all to see.

Yet, these individuals had merely taken the goods and then released him.

‘How could this be? Surely, the nobles and the Church hadn’t suddenly developed a conscience and decided to spare Saide?’

They refused to believe such a thing. Not a single person among those factions, from the highest ranks to the lowest, was known for their good nature.

They never treated them as human beings.

Resse’s brows furrowed deeply as he fixed a suspicious gaze on Saide, convinced he was speaking nonsense.

Every aspect of the situation seemed far too suspicious. How could such benevolent individuals exist among those people?

“Are you lying or not?!”

Resse slapped Saide hard on the back, sending him stumbling forward, nearly toppling to the ground.

Saide scrambled to his feet in a panic, pleading incessantly.

“I’m truly not lying! Everything I’ve said is the truth, without a single fabrication!”

Saide felt like crying but had no tears left. Even when speaking the truth, no one believed him.

“Let him go. What Saide said is very likely true.”

At that moment, Laika stepped forward and stated solemnly.

“Laika…”

Resse said helplessly, unsure how Laika had arrived at such a conclusion.

He feared that Laika’s inherent kindness might allow traitors to the organization to escape.

Laika approached Saide, her expression grave as she asked.

“Saide, didn’t you mention that the two maidens spoke words you couldn’t understand?”

Laika immediately seized upon this crucial detail. Though Saide had only mentioned it in passing, Laika recognized its significance.

“That’s right, I couldn’t understand a single word they said! I don’t know why either!”

Saide pleaded relentlessly, his demeanor utterly subservient.

“This…”

Resse lowered his head in thought. He had indeed overlooked that vital piece of information.

“Then the conclusion is quite obvious.”

Laika surveyed the people around her, then delivered a conclusion that stunned everyone.

“These two individuals are not people from within the Wall at all. They are certainly not nobles or from the Church. They are Audfoger people!”

Laika declared with absolute certainty, her statement causing everyone to exchange bewildered glances.

Audfoger people—a name both familiar and foreign. Everyone among them knew what it signified.

They were the legendary new world, the redeemers who brought hope and a future.

Each Audfoger person could herald the dawn of hope for them.

Yet, could such a possibility truly exist?

“Miss Laika… is what you’re saying truly real?”

One of Resse’s subordinates asked, his voice trembling. He simply couldn’t believe this truth.

“Exactly. The endless blizzards outside reached a point decades ago where they could annihilate all life. How could anyone possibly traverse those blizzards to reach our homeland?”

Another person spoke with disbelief. After all, countless people from their homeland had attempted to cross the endless blizzards, only to vanish without a trace.

It had been several decades since the last Audfoger person arrived here.

That person was Laika’s mother, who had passed away a few years prior.

Since then, no Audfoger person had returned to their homeland. The nobles and the Church had once again gained complete control.

The blizzards were, quite simply, impassable for any living being. How could anyone possibly cross them to reach their home?

Laika saw the doubt and disbelief etched on everyone’s faces. Though she, too, found the idea far-fetched, she harbored a persistent premonition.

She felt that this was truly the culmination of everything, and those two individuals might just be the dawn of hope.

“Everyone, it’s highly possible that Audfoger people possess extraordinary powers. If they are strong enough, they might be able to cross the endless blizzards.”

Laika spoke softly, her voice trailing off as she seemed to lose conviction in her own words.

After all, she had witnessed those blizzards firsthand. She couldn’t even take a single step into their outermost fringes.

It was a forbidden zone for life, a punishment inflicted upon them by their accursed deity.

“How could that be possible…”

Everyone’s expressions were a mixture of helplessness and confusion. In their minds, those blizzards represented an insurmountable chasm.

“Why not possible?! We are the Enemies of God!”

Resse suddenly roared, startling everyone present.

“Have you all forgotten the name of our organization?”

Resse angrily raised his fist.

The Enemies of God—as the name implied—were adversaries of the divine. They were an organization formed to directly oppose the nobles, the Church, and ultimately, the gods themselves.

“The Enemies of God…”

Everyone’s hearts pounded. They knew this was a mission almost impossible to accomplish.

Yet, whenever they heard that name, their blood would surge with fervor, as if they were confronting the gods themselves.

“That’s it!”

At that moment, Laika suddenly exclaimed with excitement.

“Saide, do you remember what accent or dialect those two maidens were speaking in?”
