Chapter 5: Scumbag Sister’s Preferred Type

Facing Na Naya’s question, Peggy shook her head.

“Though I don’t know what happened between you two, shouldn’t I support my teammate?”

Na Naya raised an eyebrow slightly.

“Even if it means twisting the truth?”

“I’m not twisting anything, am I?”

Peggy didn’t back down.

“You’re the one constantly picking on my teammate. Let’s be fair—aren’t you just slandering Xiao Meng? Slandering’s a bit much, don’t you think?”

Na Naya smiled.

“Alright, I was out of line just now.”

“That’s more like it.”

After Na Naya admitted fault, the carriage fell quiet again.

The tense atmosphere of staring at each other was too much for Meng Linna.

To avoid Na Naya’s gaze, she lowered her head.

She started checking her weapons.

A holy seal for casting magic and a small dagger for self-defense.

That was all Meng Linna had.

As a faith warrior, she mainly relied on magic for ranged attacks.

The dagger was just for struggling if a monster got too close.

Thanks to Peggy’s strong combat skills as a magic swordswoman, Meng Linna had never been in such a bind.

She slid the dagger back into its sheath at her waist.

Her gaze drifted to Na Naya across from her.

The Fire Giant Whip, exchanged through the system, wasn’t on her.

Likely, she thought it wasn’t suitable to flaunt openly.

Instead, she carried a blessed hammer-spear and a small blue round shield.

These were more standard faith warrior gear.

Strictly speaking, Na Naya’s style—physical attacks with prayer spells as support—was that of a true faith warrior.

Meng Linna, who relied on prayer spells as her main attack, should be called a priest.

Sadly, because she bullied a saintess candidate, Meng Linna had no right to call herself a priest.

So she claimed to be a faith warrior instead.

‘How’s Na Naya been doing lately?’

Curious, Meng Linna couldn’t help but ask.

“How have you been?”

Na Naya didn’t react at first.

Realizing Meng Linna wasn’t talking to Peggy, she slowly turned to meet her gaze.

“Are you… concerned about me?”

“Sort of.”

Every time she met Na Naya’s eyes, Meng Linna felt inexplicably guilty.

“After all, I did those things to you. You must’ve suffered because of me, right?”

“Are you only realizing that now?”

Na Naya gave her a withering look.

“Thanks to you, I nearly lost my saintess candidate status.”

‘It’s just a saintess candidate title!’

In her past life’s memories, Na Naya never became a saintess anyway.

She ended up joining the Tribunal as an inquisitor.

Noticing Meng Linna’s shift in mood, Na Naya raised an eyebrow.

“Are you regretting not ruining my saintess candidacy for good?”

“No way!”

Realizing her thoughts were off, Meng Linna quickly raised her hands in surrender.

“I was just curious about the impact. I didn’t think it’d nearly cost you your position.”

“I can’t tell if you’re just clueless or actually malicious.”

Na Naya stared into Meng Linna’s eyes, searching for answers.

“In theory, it would’ve cost me that position. But thankfully, Duke Mengdes stepped in to help.”

Duke Mengdes was Meng Linna’s father, who had disowned her.

As the empire’s most powerful duke, it wasn’t hard for him to groom his youngest daughter for regional bishop.

Likewise, preserving a saintess candidate’s status was no challenge.

“That’s good.”

Learning her father had cleaned up her mess, Meng Linna sighed in relief.

In both her lives, the only person she truly wronged was Na Naya.

With her father’s help, Na Naya might actually become a saintess.

But Na Naya looked at her with disdain.

“Good for what?”

“That was Duke Mengdes’ doing.”

“It has nothing to do with you, right?”

She was right.

Meng Linna had been disowned by her father.

“True.”

Meng Linna nodded, ashamed.

“So how can I make it up to you?”

Despite living two lives, Meng Linna realized she was still immature.

In her past life, she was just pushed by her father to become a bishop.

“You?”

Na Naya glanced her over.

“What could you possibly offer to make it up to me?”

“…”

She had a point.

Meng Linna was just a penniless D-rank adventurer, scraping by.

She couldn’t argue with Na Naya.

“I’ll make it up to you.”

“Forget it.”

Na Naya clearly didn’t want to continue this topic.

She shifted her gaze to Peggy.

“Vampire miss, why’d you team up with her?”

“Huh?”

Caught off guard, Peggy, who’d been zoning out, blinked.

“Me?”

“You’re the only vampire in this carriage, aren’t you?”

Meng Linna gave her dazed teammate a gentle elbow nudge.

“Oh, right, haha.”

Peggy scratched her head, turning to Na Naya.

“Sorry, what’d you say?”

Meng Linna had never seen Peggy this scatterbrained.

She’d always thought her teammate was a reliable loli-mom type.

“I was just curious why you teamed up with her.”

Na Naya’s eyes glinted, feigning hesitation.

“Considering she’s… that kind of person.”

“Miss Na Naya, could you stop badmouthing my teammate?”

Peggy sighed slightly.

“I get that you don’t like her. But please consider my position as her teammate.”

Clearly, Peggy knew Meng Linna had wronged Na Naya.

But as teammates on a mission, a crack in trust could lead to serious trouble.

“You’re right.”

Na Naya nodded lightly.

“I went a bit far. But I’m just curious. How far has your relationship gone?”

“What do you mean, how far?”

Peggy looked confused.

“We’re just regular teammates.”

“Really?”

Na Naya feigned surprise.

“With your figure, you’re totally Scumbag Sister’s type, aren’t you?”
