Chapter 129: The Purification

After tossing out that line, the Goddess vanished without a trace, leaving the two of them staring at each other from across the bed.

So Nanaya fixed her gaze on Menglinna’s face. “Are you going to make me ‘good’ like that too?”

Menglinna averted her eyes, scratching her cheek awkwardly. “I didn’t mean it like that…”

But Nanaya had already grabbed her wrist and pulled the retreating Menglinna onto her own bed. “Come on, this has to be done, doesn’t it? For everyone’s sake.”

With that reasoning, Menglinna couldn’t refuse.

“I’ll be careful…”

Thinking about it, this was probably another arrangement by the Goddess. Knowing Her, it was exactly the kind of plot She’d scheme for Her followers.

Menglinna didn’t dare meet Nanaya’s eyes, instead focusing on the arm that had once hosted the Flame Evil God. “Since we’re purifying contamination, we should start where it was parasitic, right?”

Nanaya just lay on the bed, looking utterly inviting. “Whatever you say.”

Menglinna couldn’t bring herself to look at her face, afraid of losing focus. She forced herself to announce, “Then I’ll begin the purification! I absolutely won’t do anything improper…”

Such shyness was a far cry from the sister who used to tease her in Nanaya’s memories.

A playful impulse stirred in Nanaya. “What if I want to do something?”

Menglinna, who had been about to reach out, jumped in fright. Her hand trembled, nearly making her fall onto the bed. “You wouldn’t do that, right?” she asked, her voice shaking.

“Just a joke.”

But the smile on her face made Menglinna uneasy.

“This time, I’m really starting!”

If she kept dragging her feet, Nanaya would tease her even more. It was better to focus on the task at hand.

Come to think of it, where had that innocent loli gone—the one who would blush at the slightest dirty joke?

Menglinna silently clicked her tongue. She had always faced Nanaya with a sense of atonement, still believing the girl was that pure little girl from years ago. Even though Nanaya had been a bit handsy before, Menglinna clung to the hope that maybe she was just imitating what Menglinna had done to her back then.

Just that.

But Nanaya’s increasingly bold moves made it clear: that little girl had become a dirty-minded loli.

Thinking about all this, Menglinna grabbed her arm.

Because they often went on adventures together, Nanaya’s arm had a healthy wheatish tan. Unlike the bony look from before when she couldn’t get enough to eat, now she seemed slender, but touching her revealed solid muscle.

Well, she was the violent loli who could swing the Giant Crusher Hammer. If she ever got a girlfriend who was too obedient, she might just get a good beating.

Ah, but little Nanaya was indeed at the age to find a girlfriend. What kind of person would she choose?

Following the same method she used against the Flame Evil God, Menglinna channeled her internal magic, transforming it into purifying divine power, and then, as the Goddess had said, shot it ‘pew pew pew’ into Nanaya’s body.

Ahem…

When the divine power surged into Nanaya’s arm, she had mentally prepared herself, but still coughed from the impact.

The Flame Evil God had resided inside her for a long time and had even possessed her directly. In truth, His divine power had already spread throughout Nanaya’s body.

Of course, theoretically, that power could become Nanaya’s own and didn’t need to be expelled. But the problem was that it was tainted by the Flame Evil God’s nature—specifically, the fire god Fram’s irresistible urge to set things ablaze and destroy.

To prevent Nanaya from being corrupted by this power, it had to be purified—at least the part containing Fram’s nature.

Hearing Nanaya cough, Menglinna stopped the purification.

Nanaya’s face was slightly twisted in pain, but she forced herself to ask, “Why did you stop?”

“You seemed uncomfortable?”

She could have forced the purification without caring about the Flame Evil God, but Nanaya was different. What if she went too rough and messed up the girl’s head?

Menglinna didn’t consider herself an expert in this, so she had to be cautious.

“I’m fine.” Nanaya gave a pale smile. “It’s nothing serious. Go on.”

Since she said so, Menglinna silently raised her hand.

Nanaya deliberately moved closer to her. “Continue.”

Menglinna didn’t respond or flinch, just quietly began channeling magic.

Unlike purifying the Flame Evil God, Nanaya’s expression was more purely pained than Fram’s ‘pleasure mixed with agony’ state.

To put it crudely: the Flame Evil God was like a pathogenic microbe, and purification meant violently altering its DNA, brainwashing it into a good microbe… or god. For Nanaya, purification was eliminating the germs inside her body—like dousing herself in disinfectant. Naturally, pain was the main sensation.

Although they stopped many times, Nanaya kept enduring. After all, the target was only the malignant divine nature inside her. Once her body got used to Menglinna’s invading magic, the discomfort eased.

Menglinna, on the other hand, was running low on magic from continuous purification. Her mana was nearly depleted, and she was starting to feel unwell.

Typically, mages rarely exhaust their magic completely. First, because mana is closely tied to mental strength; low mana causes mental fog, poor judgment, or even unconsciousness. Second, mana is like water in a towel—easy to squeeze out the first drop, but very hard to get the last. When mana drops too low, one faints.

Menglinna was in that state now. Her output had left her dazed, her head bobbing like a college student struggling to stay awake in math class.

But the good news was that the purification was almost done. As every inch of Nanaya’s body was filled with Menglinna’s magic, the process finally finished.

“It’s over.”

Menglinna, nearly drained of magic, had held on to the last moment. If it had lasted a bit longer, she would have certainly passed out.

“I feel much better too. Thank you.”

After getting used to Menglinna’s magic, Nanaya had started to enjoy it. Absorbing magic was pleasant, and Menglinna’s power carried the Goddess’s sacred attribute, which suited Nanaya’s current state perfectly.

“Then I’ll go back to rest. Yawn~”

Menglinna dragged her tired body toward her room. Her mana was low; she needed a good sleep to recover.

But drowsy as she was, she nearly missed the first step and fell off the bed. Nanaya caught her just in time.

“Thanks.”

The scare from nearly falling momentarily dispelled her sleepiness. Grateful for Nanaya’s steadying hand, Menglinna felt only appreciation.

“You don’t look so good,” Nanaya said worriedly. “Why don’t you rest here for a while?”

Faced with Nanaya’s invitation, Menglinna instinctively refused. “But…”

Before she could argue, Nanaya interrupted, “Your door was just broken by the bishop, right? As a single woman sleeping in a room without a door, are you really okay with that?”

With her judgment impaired by low mana, Menglinna didn’t catch the flaw in Nanaya’s logic. She followed the train of thought and found it reasonable. “You have a point. Then I’ll go next door to the Adventurer’s Guild and rent a room for the night.”

“No!” Nanaya grabbed her sleeve. “You’re in no shape to move around. I can’t let you go like this.”

“Then you can come with me—”

Perhaps truly desperate for rest, Menglinna even clutched Nanaya’s arm, pleading like a spoiled child.

Her soft chest pressed against Nanaya’s arm. To think that the aloof sister she once knew would beg her like this—it was something Nanaya, from a poor background, had never dared to imagine.

Nanaya swallowed hard. “If you really need to rest, why not just sleep here?”

“No way!” Despite her exhaustion, Menglinna refused outright. “You’d definitely do something bad to me, wouldn’t you?”
