Chapter 100: An Unholy Demand

“So, what is your trouble?”

Even though they knew each other, the formalities had to be observed. Before the confession officially began, Menglinna first swore to the goddess that she would never reveal its contents.

Menglinna had gone through this oath countless times. Swearing to the goddess was just a formality, a joke.

In her past life, she had even mocked Nanaya about her confession afterward, and the goddess had said nothing.

Nanaya, Shiya, and Kaili were probably already hiding nearby. So this confession was completely irregular, full of holes from the start.

“Your Eminence, I’ve been struggling,” Quyi’s voice trembled, as if he had entered a state. “It seems my heart has been tainted by a demon.”

Ah, there it was. Blaming his own ugly desires on a demon.

Menglinna was all too familiar with this excuse. Seeing it so often made her want to laugh.

But she had to keep up appearances. Her tone gentle, she asked, “So, what is troubling you?”

Quyi paused, baiting the listeners.

What if he just admitted he had turned into a beast?

Even Nanaya, hidden nearby, was curious how Menglinna would reply.

“Recently, I found out my girlfriend cheated on me.”

Is that all? Just that?

The eavesdroppers were a bit deflated, but then perked up. Though it had nothing to do with the mission, gossip was welcome.

Menglinna didn’t elaborate, but everyone knew Quyi had been cuckolded.

“It’s not your fault,” Menglinna said, her voice utterly flat—a true old priest. “Don’t punish yourself for others’ mistakes.”

“But…” Quyi’s tone was despondent. “I feel like I kind of enjoy it.”

Could this be the legendary ‘suffering fetish’?

“As long as it doesn’t harm others, our church generally respects personal preferences.”

Even though she found it hard to bear, Menglinna kept her smile, even if he couldn’t see it.

But this confession was just self-flagellation, yielding no useful information. Menglinna felt it was a waste of time.

“Apart from that, is there anything else you wish to confess?”

If not, please get lost.

Quyi didn’t catch the subtext. Instead, he asked excitedly, “Excuse me, if I heard correctly, you said you respect my preferences?”

Menglinna felt a wave of disgust, but couldn’t refuse directly. “I don’t understand what you mean.”

“Well, I know my girlfriend is just a pair of worn-out shoes that nobody wanted, passed around by many. So…” Quyi’s voice turned dark. “Could you and your girlfriend do that sort of thing to my girlfriend?”

Having been a priest for so many years, even though in her past life she had been harassed by an unknown inquisitor during confessions, it was only after becoming a woman that Menglinna fully understood the implications of such words.

Of course, the guy had a twisted mind. Best to just eliminate him.

Both Yixing and Quyi, though outwardly pious, harbored darkness deeper than anyone else, with no reverence for the divine.

For people like that, the only option was to send them straight to the god—no, to hell.

Menglinna was silent for a moment, then reached for the holy bell at her waist.

Even through the curtain, a water cannon could take down that beast.

Seeming impatient with Menglinna’s prolonged silence, Quyi spoke up, “Your Eminence, I believe you wouldn’t refuse a devout believer’s request, right?”

“…”

Those words snapped Menglinna back to reality. If she acted now, it would mean endless trouble.

“Your Eminence? What’s your opinion?” Quyi pressed on. “I don’t think you want everyone to know that you got your position through your secret relationship with the Saintess, do you?”

A blatant threat. How could he call himself a devout believer?

Seeing Menglinna still unresponsive, Quyi stopped bothering. He stood up and walked toward the door. “I’ll come again tomorrow. Then you just tell me the time and place. I’ll let you choose where to play. That’s good enough, right?”

At the door, he paused. “Oh, and this isn’t a negotiation. You know what happens if you try to be clever.”

With that, he strode out of the church and slammed the door shut.

Once they confirmed Quyi was far away, the others gathered around.

Menglinna, still in the confessional, had a flushed face. Being threatened by such a scumbag was a disgrace.

“That bastard went too far!” Shiya said angrily. “Using something like that to threaten Big Dream Teacher—he’s a total scumbag.”

“Indeed, he’s holding nothing back now,” Kaili added.

As Kaili said, what Yixing and Quyi had done in the past two days had completely erased any remaining qualms about killing.

But Menglinna, the center of the storm, had calmed down. “Though he’s disgusting, if he really spreads that rumor, regardless of its truth, it will seriously damage our church.”

Shiya tilted her head. “Is it true?”

Menglinna rolled her eyes. “Of course not. But even a rumor is hard to dispel.”

Nanaya, who had been silent, spoke up. “Exactly. It’s best to go along with them for now. But we might be able to use this to our advantage.”

Everyone focused on Nanaya. “What do you mean?”

“Since we get to choose the time and place, let’s pick carefully,” Nanaya said, glancing at a map on the side. “A cliff would make it easy for someone to fall to their death, right? Or the seaside—easy to drown.”

“Of course,” Menglinna took over. “In the wilderness, if an accident happens, no one would know.”
