After hearing Little Anna’s suggestion, Menglinna blushed and shook her head in refusal.
She could never do something like that.
Now it was Little Anna’s turn to scratch her head. “Sigh, can’t do it, can’t kiss—are you two still stuck in the plain and simple stage?”
Menglinna blushed. “Love isn’t just about physical contact. It’s about enjoying the feeling of being together.”
“It seems the Head Priestess is a traditional good woman.”
“Thank you. I hope so too.”
If only that were true.
But Menglinna hadn’t expected to get any really good ideas from Little Anna anyway. She was just chatting to pass the time.
After a few more idle words, Little Anna finally got up to leave, leaving Menglinna alone in the office.
****
During the lunch break, Menglinna sat alone at her desk after a full meal.
Though there was plenty to do, she wasn’t in a hurry at all. After all, this was just a border church; some things didn’t need to follow strict regulations.
Just as she was idly dealing with the documents, the door suddenly knocked.
“Come in!”
Looking up, she saw Nanaya smiling.
It seemed there would be no leisure for document processing.
Menglinna pushed the unfinished documents aside and turned to face Nanaya. “Do you need something?”
Nanaya didn’t answer Menglinna’s question. Instead, she naturally sat down beside her and picked up a document, glancing at it casually. “All these tasks have piled up on Sister’s side.”
Menglinna gave a resentful look. “If a certain acting bishop would take a little more responsibility, I wouldn’t be so exhausted, would I?”
Nanaya gave an embarrassed smile. “I’m still learning, you know!”
With that, she took the opportunity to close the distance between them, clasping her hands together as she looked at Menglinna. “Sister Meng, can you teach me how to manage the church?”
What kind of request was that? It was too unfair!
Blushing, Menglinna turned her head away, pretending to search through the files. “Of course. If I don’t teach you, I’ll only suffer more.”
She couldn’t refuse a cute little girl—that was Menglinna’s nature.
Of course, if she wanted to take advantage of her, that was out of the question!
Mmm!
Nanaya didn’t expose her embarrassment; instead, she looked at the document Menglinna was holding.
Huh, the document was upside down.
Menglinna realized it too. She cleared her throat twice, turned the document around, and began earnestly teaching Nanaya.
The girl taught.
“…Do you understand all the above?”
Nanaya nodded. “I roughly get it.”
Though she had prepared herself for harassment, Nanaya was surprisingly well-behaved. This relieved Menglinna and made her feel gratified.
Good, Nanaya was really a good kid at heart.
As long as she guided her correctly, she believed Nanaya would come to understand her own feelings.
Before she knew it, in the process of teaching, she had also dealt with the backlog of documents. Was it Menglinna’s efficiency or Nanaya’s quick learning?
Putting the approved documents aside, Menglinna finally let out a sigh of relief.
Just then, Little Anna knocked and entered. Seeing the completed documents, the nun exclaimed in surprise, “Oh my god, the lazy Head Priestess actually finished all these files!”
Hearing Little Anna bluntly call her “lazy,” Nanaya couldn’t help but cough twice.
The coughs served as a reminder to Little Anna, who otherwise hadn’t noticed the saint candidate sitting nearby.
Everyone knew about their relationship; her words must have made the candidate uncomfortable.
Though the Head Priestess was approachable, the candidate might not be the same.
Little Anna gave an awkward smile. “Lady Candidate, good afternoon!”
Considering that Little Anna was just a simple nun, Nanaya didn’t bother to hold a grudge. “Little Anna, hello.”
Little Anna’s entrance reminded Menglinna of something—they were sitting too close.
Quietly moving her chair to create some distance, Menglinna looked at Little Anna with a kind expression. “Little Anna, thanks to the Candidate’s help, these files are done. Could you deliver them to the respective recipients?”
But Menglinna’s words, in Little Anna’s ears, didn’t sound like she was emphasizing Nanaya’s importance to the church. Instead, it sounded like she was showing off. Little Anna looked at the pile of documents and nodded. “Got it. I won’t disturb you two!”
“It’s not what you think!”
Without listening to Menglinna’s explanation, Little Anna picked up the documents and left the office.
Watching Little Anna leave, Nanaya pinched Menglinna’s waist. “Aren’t you being too indulgent with that child?”
“Am I?”
Though she wanted to retort that it was nonsense, feeling the pressure on her waist, Menglinna thought it best to stay restrained.
Nanaya’s eyes reflected Menglinna’s flustered face. “Coming and going from your office as she pleases, speaking to you without the respect due to a Head Priestess… isn’t that indulgence?”
“I’m just approachable. Didn’t I tell you not to be too harsh on those little nuns?”
“Then please don’t be too harsh on me,” Nanaya said with a smile. “By age, I’m a little nun too.”
“By age, you’re not a little nun,” Menglinna lowered her head. “But by the chest department, you are.”
“Are you saying your last words?”
Stung where it hurt, Nanaya tightened her grip, and the smug Menglinna let out a shriek like a pig being slaughtered.
****
After the church decided to settle in Yanan, the original bar was moved across from the Adventurer’s Guild.
Because she had to teach Nanaya church affairs, Menglinna had forced herself to deal with documents she’d previously wanted to avoid.
So to reward herself, she decided to go out for a drink for the first time in a while.
“One Blue Planet.”
Nanaya said to the server, “Same for me.”
But the server didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he turned and stared at Nanaya. “Little miss, you can’t drink if you’re underage! We have corn juice, cola…”
Menglinna, whose waist still ached from Nanaya’s earlier pinch, couldn’t help but smile. “Ah, having a flat chest isn’t good either—people mistake you for a kid!”
Nanaya shot her a furious glare, then pulled out her ID card for the server. “I’m not a child.”
The server gave an awkward smile. “Sorry, I misunderstood. It’s our policy. Really sorry…”
Nanaya waved her hand, signaling him to stop. The server, relieved, quickly went to prepare ice.
In the bar, everyone had their own things to do; no one noticed them.
Under the flickering lights, Nanaya grabbed a pair of plump date-shaped buns. “Is being big here something to be proud of?”
Since they were out to relax, Menglinna was still wearing her classic mage robe over a strapless top. Nanaya’s small hand slipped through the gap between the buttons of the robe.
Caught off guard, Menglinna broke out in a sweat. “Don’t be rash! I was just joking.”
She had miscalculated. She never expected Nanaya to dare do something like this in public. Now she was incredibly nervous.
Take back what she said earlier—Nanaya was actually a bad kid at heart.
If someone were to see…
But she was overthinking it. No one noticed them, let alone saw Nanaya’s hand in the dim light.
A tall, golden-haired beauty in a mage robe was obviously not someone to mess with.
Menglinna’s reputation preceded her, so the adventurers present consciously avoided disturbing their date.
“But weren’t you laughing happily just now?” Nanaya, having carefully observed the surroundings, was prepared. What she was doing now was not only climbing the surface of the buns but also meticulously exploring the terrain.
“I was wrong.”
As a fingernail lightly scraped across the date pit, Menglinna shuddered violently and nearly collapsed into Nanaya’s arms.
Though she knew Menglinna’s physique was ordinary, she hadn’t expected it to be this weak.
Seizing the opportunity, Nanaya pulled her shoulder, drawing the older woman fully into her embrace.
Pity her arms were too short, otherwise she could grab both hands.
Pretending not to notice Menglinna’s embarrassment, Nanaya leaned her head on her shoulder. That way, even if someone looked over, they would only see a couple snuggling together.
“Do you often come here to drink? You seem familiar with ordering.”
Nanaya wasn’t very familiar with the bar’s drinks—otherwise she wouldn’t have just dumbly parroted “Same for me.”
“It’s okay…”
Menglinna suppressed the urge to cry out, answering Nanaya’s questions slowly.
Now she was drawing circles on the bun’s surface with her fingernail. What did that mean?
Though she wanted to get angry, knowing that angering Nanaya would only make things worse, she chose to endure.
Her body was far too weak compared to Nanaya’s.
Just as they were tangled, the server came over with two drinks. “Ladies, your two Blue Planets.”
The pale blue liquid slowly spread around the precisely cut spherical ice cube in the glass, like the atmosphere of a planet.
Nanaya nodded. “Thank you.”
But Menglinna, caught in Nanaya’s grasp, was on edge. If the server came any closer, he would definitely notice their abnormal posture.
“Um, I’m really sorry,” the server, who should have left, lingered. “For misjudging your age earlier, as compensation, these drinks are on the house.”
“Thank you. I can feel your sincerity.”
Having received Nanaya’s acknowledgment, the server finally left with relief, leaving the two tightly leaning against each other.
