Menglinna didn’t even need to turn around to know who was behind her, because the mirror already reflected Nanaya’s face.
She closed her open mouth, the action somewhat resembling a cat fogging up a mirror with its breath as she examined her teeth.
“It can’t be helped, after all, I haven’t been cured yet. But why are you suddenly so concerned about me?”
Menglinna turned around, looking directly into Nanaya’s eyes.
“Concerned?” Nanaya met her gaze. “Sure, you could call it concern…”
As Nanaya suddenly closed the distance, Menglinna’s breath caught. “You couldn’t be…”
“Yes,” Nanaya nodded. “I’ve been waiting for a long time. You’ve been staring at this mirror in front of the bathroom for half an hour now. So can you give me a definite answer—when can I go in and take a shower?”
So that was it. Menglinna smiled apologetically. “I was just looking in the mirror by the door. If you want to shower, go ahead anytime.”
She stepped aside to clear a path for Nanaya.
Nanaya glared at her angrily for a few more seconds before picking up her clothes and entering the bathroom.
Today’s Menglinna was acting strange!
But Menglinna hadn’t forgotten her plan. To verify whether the Flame Evil God truly resided within Nanaya, she had devised a scheme. Simply taking a bath together with Nanaya, just like before, would suffice. She called this plan Operation Bathtub.
Nanaya loved soaking in the tub, so all Menglinna had to do was follow her into the bathroom. Nanaya had once barged in on her, so it was only fair to return the favor, right?
Seeing Nanaya prepare for her bath, Menglinna picked up the towel she had prepared earlier and followed behind her.
But before she could take two steps, Nanaya stopped and turned to face her.
Caught off guard, Menglinna’s substantial chest collided directly with Nanaya’s face. Although the cushioning of Menglinna’s front armor was incredibly overpowered, it still left Nanaya a bit dazed.
“Uh?”
Looking at the stars spinning in Nanaya’s eyes, Menglinna feared she might have given her a concussion.
But of course, that didn’t happen. Nanaya grabbed the doorframe, steadied herself, and then stared at Menglinna. “What are you doing?”
Nanaya’s expression was somewhat serious, and Menglinna couldn’t help but avert her gaze, laughing awkwardly as she replied, “Going to take a bath, what’s wrong?”
Faced with such a forthright answer, Nanaya was momentarily at a loss for words. She countered, “Did you take what happened during the day seriously?”
“What happened during the day?”
Menglinna didn’t know what she was referring to.
Whether she was genuinely dense or just playing dumb, Nanaya pressed her forehead and asked, “Do you really think you’re my girlfriend now?”
Menglinna quickly shook her head. “Of course not! That was just acting.”
“Good,” Nanaya let out an exasperated laugh. “Then why are you following me into the bathroom? Want to bathe together?”
“No, of course not!” She couldn’t admit to that. Menglinna chose to dig her heels in. “Since you’re going to soak, I thought I’d just take a quick shower to save time.”
Nanaya pointed to the other side. “The shower is over there.”
“Oh… I’m just not very familiar with the layout here yet,” Menglinna said.
The excuse was obviously a lie, but Nanaya couldn’t be bothered to argue. She simply grabbed her clothes and entered the bathroom.
As Nanaya slowly disappeared behind the door and the lock clicked shut, Menglinna realized that her plan had almost certainly fallen through.
It was her fault for being too impatient. If she had waited until Nanaya had been soaking for a while, it might have worked better?
Even with the regret, Menglinna had to accept that the opportunity had slipped away. Somewhat dejectedly, she picked up her clothes and headed to the shower stall next door.
Finding another chance like this wouldn’t be easy…

After a comfortable soak, by the time Nanaya came out, Menglinna had already settled on the sofa, covered with a small blanket.
Nanaya cast a glance at the blushing golden-haired beauty before sitting down at the desk.
Although she wanted the Flame Evil God to forge the juvenile creature in her hand, Menglinna had been staying in her room recently, leaving her no private space. Nanaya had no choice but to postpone the matter.
Speaking of which, how long did this woman plan to stay in her room? Maybe she should just kick her out after completing this assassination mission?
And was she on something today? Her actions seemed unexpectedly bold.
Could it be that what she said back then was serious? That she was genuinely courting her, trying to create a public impression that they were a couple, eventually leading to a confession?
Before she knew it, Nanaya’s mind was completely occupied with thoughts of Menglinna, so much so that she hadn’t even picked up a book. She just sat staring blankly at the empty desk.
Just staring blankly at the empty desk.
The next thing that broke Nanaya out of her reverie was the sound of steady snoring. She turned to see the scumbag lady on the sofa already fast asleep.
Honestly, Nanaya was a little envious of this scumbag lady’s ability to sleep. No matter how early, she could lie down and fall asleep instantly, even with the lights on. Yesterday, she had dozed off mid-conversation.
Ever since receiving the sponsorship from Duke Mengling, Nanaya had been feeling immense pressure, which had taken a toll on her sleep.
Looking at Mengling’s carefree sleeping face, Nanaya couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy.
To wish for sleep as comfortable as hers—it was hard to say that out loud, wasn’t it?
In this moment, known only to her, Nanaya couldn’t resist reaching out to stroke the sleeping Menglinna’s cheek.
Whether it was because she felt safe in the surroundings or because she was genuinely deep in slumber, even when touched, Menglinna showed no signs of waking.
Her cheek was soft to the touch, reminding Nanaya of her days at the monastery.
The radiant girl with hair like golden silk had once been the only bright spot in Nanaya’s life. If she hadn’t gone crazy back then, perhaps…
Nanaya stopped herself from thinking further. She couldn’t focus on reading tonight no matter what; she might as well go to bed early.
At least she could turn off the light and let that girl sleep soundly.
Listening to Menglinna’s snores, Nanaya’s eyelids began to droop.
