Menglinna had never come to Yanan to deal with beasts in her past life, but a single second of eye contact was enough to tell that thing was off.
Calling it a curse might be an understatement. Perhaps it involved some higher existence—gods, ghosts, or something similar.
It was said that Yanan had its own deity, one completely different from the Goddess of Law worshipped by the church. Even if that deity had departed, those higher beings still wielded immense influence in Yanan. Maybe that was why the church of the Goddess of Law struggled to operate here?
Though she firmly believed her goddess was powerful, Menglinna had no intention of provoking those higher existences. Even a departed god’s lingering power was not something an ordinary nun like her could meddle with.
Of course, the Flame Evil God—a total nobody by the roadside—was not among those higher beings. That guy was essentially incompetent, easily dealt with by the nuns.
“So you saw something was off with it at a glance?” Nanaya felt a bit sour, remembering she had needed the Flame Evil God to warn her.
“That’s right,” Menglinna nodded. “But you seem pretty knowledgeable too, don’t you?”
“Hmph, of course.”
Nanaya couldn’t exactly tell a devout believer like Menglinna that she had only known because the Flame Evil God told her, so she simply nodded in agreement.
“Are you interested in that thing’s eye?” Menglinna stepped into the church and turned on the lights.
“A little curious.”
“I see.” Menglinna turned around and looked at Nanaya seriously. “That thing is dangerous. It might involve gods. People like us, mere mortals, shouldn’t rashly follow in the footsteps of higher beings, especially the gods of other faiths aside from the great goddess.”
Nanaya nodded. “I’m a saint candidate. I don’t need you to remind me.”
But deep down, she was thinking differently, pondering the possible connection between the beast and the gods.
Menglinna didn’t know what was going on in her head. She figured a saint candidate didn’t need her to say more, so she got up to grab some change of clothes from her room.
Lately, she had been sleeping in Nanaya’s room, and she felt a bit embarrassed about it.
But given Nanaya’s current level of vigilance, she probably wouldn’t be able to carry out her bathtub plan anytime soon.
Thinking this, Menglinna grabbed her clothes and headed into the bathroom.
Even though she had just arrived at the church and turned on the water heater, the bathwater wouldn’t heat up immediately. But in this sweltering summer, a soak in cold water wasn’t so bad.
With that in mind, Menglinna jumped straight into the cold water.
She had to admit, a woman’s body was far more sensitive than she had imagined. In her past life, Menglinna had even taken cold showers in winter, but for her current self, such a drastic temperature difference was way too stimulating.
After all, the water in the church—
“Haa—”
It was like she was competing with herself. Though it felt cold, Sister Menglinna forced herself to stay in the bath, relying on sheer stubbornness.
The good news was that she had turned on the water heater before getting in, so the temperature was slowly rising.
If she waited a bit longer, the water would warm up.
Pinching her nose, Menglinna struggled to acclimate to the temperature.
Suddenly, there was some noise from outside the frosted glass bathroom door.
“Are you in there?”
Without a doubt, it was Miss Nanaya, who wanted to take a bath.
But this time, she was a bit smarter—she asked beforehand. Maybe the last incident had taught her a lesson?
But if I just stay quiet, she’ll probably barge in anyway, right?
Thinking this, Menglinna crouched down, preparing not to answer.
“It’s useless to stay silent. Your shoes are right outside!”
Ah, so I’ve been found out.
With no choice, Menglinna surfaced and replied softly, “The bathwater is still cold. If you want to soak, come back later.”
“Hmm,” footsteps headed away from the door, but then stopped at the entrance. “If it’s cold water, why are you still soaking?”
Was it her imagination, or did she detect a hint of concern in that question?
Maybe it was just that the water was so cold that everything sounded warm to her.
Menglinna said quietly, “I just like cold baths.”
“Alright.”
The voice from the door didn’t say anything more and left.

Later that evening.
“My head hurts a bit.”
“Soaking in cold water gave you a cold, right?”
Looking at Menglinna lying weakly on the sofa, Nanaya made a disgusted face.
“It’s not a cold. Just a slight headache!”
Even though her head really hurt, she could still see the particularly concerned expression on Nanaya’s face.
Hehe, to see such a caring look on a little girl like Nanaya—she hadn’t seen that since that day.
It was quite a pleasant surprise.
“Still being stubborn,” Nanaya reached out and touched Menglinna’s forehead. “A bit hot.”
“Even if it is a cold, it’s no big deal. Leave it alone and I’ll be fine soon. I’m a resilient one, you know.”
“Still talking nonsense.” Nanaya completely ignored her words. “Hey, get yourself to bed.”
“Huh? Is that okay?”
Menglinna’s voice suddenly grew shy. In her past life, someone always said her sleeping posture was bad—if they bumped into each other, it could lead to accidents…
Ah, but there are no guns in this life, so maybe no accidents?
“What’s not okay about it?” Seeing Menglinna’s suddenly flushed face, Nanaya realized she was probably thinking about something weird, and explained, “Today you sleep on the bed, I’ll take the sofa.”
“What? No way!”
Completely contrary to her imagination, Menglinna frowned in surprise.
If it weren’t for her headache, she would definitely stand up and protest.
“It doesn’t matter if you agree or not. This is my room, and I say so!”
Without waiting for Menglinna to respond, Nanaya reached out, one arm under her knees and the other around her shoulders, lifting her from the sofa in a princess carry.
Though she had guessed Nanaya was strong from seeing her wield the Giant Crusher hammer, being actually carried was a completely different sensation.
Losing all support, her body completely at someone else’s mercy, Menglinna’s already fever-dizzy mind grew even more overwhelmed.
