When the two stepped into the Adventurer’s Guild, Miaomiaonia immediately came up to greet them.
Miaomiaonia was being unusually enthusiastic today, which surely meant something was up. Menglinna instinctively took a step back, trying to distance herself.
“What, is something the matter?”
“You two are here for a commission, right?” Miaomiaonia smiled. “How about we chat in my room? I have a rather special commission here!”
The two exchanged a glance and ultimately decided to hear Miaomiaonia out.
After all, they were just going to decide based on their mood today. Even if they didn’t accept, it was fine—they could just listen to what trouble Miaomiaonia had run into recently.
They followed Miaomiaonia and casually closed the door behind them.
Pouring them each a cup of tea, Miaomiaonia got straight to the point: “To be honest, this commission isn’t anything like the assassination ones before, but it does require a high level of confidentiality.”
“Mm-hmm?”
Menglinna made a noncommittal sound, waiting for Miaomiaonia to explain further.
“The reason I’m reaching out to you is that, aside from you two having proven yourselves tight-lipped before, there’s another important reason: you’re probably familiar with the client, so I thought I’d leave this to you.” Miaomiaonia paused before uttering the name. “It’s a commission from Director Yushi of Central Hospital.”
“She specifically asked for us?”
“Not exactly, it was just my judgment.”
Since Yushi hadn’t specifically requested them, Menglinna relaxed a bit. “So, what’s it about?”
“We all know that hospitals are hotspots for all sorts of weird urban legends—zombies in the morgue, vampires hiding in the blood bank, stuff like that. Most of those stories sound far-fetched, but some of them are actually true.”
Nanaya nodded. “So what kind of urban legend do they want us to deal with?”
“A beast,” Miaomiaonia flipped open a file. “The same kind you dealt with last time, except this one seems weak and already injured. Director Yushi has it locked up in the lab.”
“Sounds like the hospital has it under control?”
“The hospital’s lab is huge. Saying it’s locked up is just saying they’ve stopped it from moving elsewhere. And there’s no telling what chain of events might happen. The hospital wants it dealt with quickly.”
It sounded a bit suspicious, but probably still within manageable limits. Menglinna looked at Nanaya. Since Nanaya had invited her out, she’d leave the decision to her this time.
“A hospital as a monster-hunting venue sounds pretty interesting,” Nanaya raised her head. “No problem, we can take it. But the reward…”
“Hunting a werewolf is two hundred gold coins, plus a confidentiality fee…”
Central Hospital truly was the strongest pillar of Yana’s economy; they were quite generous. Besides the solid gold coins, they also offered a lifetime discount on special medical services at Yana Central Hospital.
“No problem, we’ll take this commission.”

As soon as she saw Menglinna push open the door, Yushi’s expression turned lazy. “I think I told you that the heart thing isn’t ready yet. Wouldn’t it be better to wait until I notify you? Or are you here again to talk about your two girlfriends’ jealousy issues?”
But with Nanaya’s appearance, Yushi immediately clamped her mouth shut.
“God, what are you blabbering about!”
Sensing Nanaya’s gaze from behind, Menglinna couldn’t help but shoot Yushi a reproachful look.
Yushi looked guilty. “Haha, just a joke.”
Nanaya wasn’t convinced. “Later, tell me about that joke too.”
“Hey!” Menglinna hastily interrupted Nanaya. “We’re here on business today.”
“Huh?” Yushi found it hard to imagine the girl before her having any serious business.
“About the commission…”
“Shh!” Yushi quickly signaled Menglinna to shut up. “So that’s why you’re here. Well, stop coming to my clinic for this sort of thing—it wastes medical resources!”
“I’m really sorry…”
Yushi didn’t look at them. She just pressed a bell on her desk. Soon, an intern knocked and entered. “Director Yu, you called for me?”
“Cover my shift for half a day. I have something to deal with.”
Without further explanation, Yushi led them deeper into the hospital.
They walked through the hospital, past the inpatient department, and then Yushi led them into an elevator going down.
“Where are we going?”
The elevator kept descending. Whether it was psychological or not, Menglinna felt the temperature gradually dropping, which made her uneasy.
Yushi showed a calm smile. “For medical research, experiments always require some sacrifices. To prevent misunderstandings about our hospital, the lab is built underground.”
This strange statement sent a chill down Menglinna’s spine. Could their experiments be creating monsters?
But Nanaya didn’t seem as scared as Menglinna; she focused on the practicalities. “So the beast is trapped down here?”
“That’s right,” Yushi nodded. “The problem is we don’t know where it’s hiding now. The lab is quite large…”
“Looks like we’re playing hide and seek with it?”
“Something like that. But it was already injured by me, so it should be easy to handle.”
Seeing Yushi’s casual expression, Menglinna felt things couldn’t be that simple. “So actually, you didn’t need to issue a commission to deal with this beast?”
“Leave professional matters to professionals,” Yushi gave an apologetic smile. “After all, I was the one who accidentally let it escape before.”
Even staring hard into Yushi’s eyes, Menglinna couldn’t find any sign of dishonesty.
Was she being too suspicious?
Menglinna couldn’t tell, but as they spoke, the elevator slowly reached the designated floor.
“We’ve confined it to this floor,” Yushi took out a key card from her bag and opened the entrance passage. “This is the only exit from the lab. I’ll guard it here. As for the hunt, I’ll leave it to you two.”
