Chapter 88: The Forging God’s Request

“In short, this is the extent of my ability.” Nanaya gave a casual flick of her whip and extinguished the flame.

Though it appeared merely unusually powerful, from her close observation, Menglinna grew even more confident in her initial judgment.

Without a doubt, this was the Flame Evil God’s primordial fire.

Having identified the flame’s type, the next step was to coax the source of this flame from Nanaya. If it was exchanged from the system, that would be fine—but if it was obtained through a deal with the Flame Evil God…

Menglinna was merely a mortal. Though the Flame Evil God was fundamentally a pushover before the Church, He was still a deity. If Nanaya had truly made a deal with Him, Menglinna would have no choice but to go back for reinforcements.

Seeing that Menglinna remained silent for a long time, Nanaya spoke up. “I’ve demonstrated my ability. Do you have any more questions?”

Menglinna put on an expression of just coming to her senses, smiling apologetically. “Sorry, I was just thinking about the best tactical combination to use.”

Nanaya nodded, a hint of impatience in her voice. “So, any more questions?”

Of course there were questions. Menglinna thought it over and decided to ask directly. “As for this flame of yours, I don’t recall ever seeing you use this type before. How did you obtain it?” She added, feigning nonchalance, “Of course, if it involves your personal privacy, you don’t have to answer. I’m just curious.”

Nanaya put on a hesitant, conflicted expression, but inwardly she was interrogating the Flame Evil God on how to answer.

“Looks like she’s suspicious of you,” the Flame Evil God said, still in his usual flippant manner. “As the main force against me, she definitely knows what the Evil God’s flame is all about. She’s just confirming her judgment.”

At the Flame Evil God’s words, cold sweat broke out on Nanaya’s back. Making a deal with an evil god was an extremely serious crime, and she especially did not want this golden-haired beauty before her to know.

“So how should I answer?”

“Just tell the truth. Where else could the Evil God’s flame come from?”

It seemed she couldn’t count on the Flame Evil God. But refusing to answer was out of the question. Since Menglinna knew about the Evil God’s flame, she couldn’t appear guilty by avoiding the question. In that case, there was only one excuse.

Nanaya looked around, then stood up and drew the curtains. “I’ll tell you the truth,” she lowered her voice, almost whispering in Menglinna’s ear. “The system.”

Menglinna’s eyes widened, then her body slowly relaxed, as if relieved by an acceptable answer, only to tense up again. The distance between them was too close.

Menglinna shifted slightly, increasing the distance between them, then said seriously, “If that’s the case, I won’t say more. But you know what this flame means, right?”

At this point, even if she knew, she had to play dumb. Nanaya put on a nonchalant expression. “It’s just the Evil God’s flame, and it’s pretty useful.”

‘A clueless kid indeed.’ Menglinna frowned, gripping her shoulders firmly. “Normally, only the Evil God’s high priests can use this flame. It’s fine that I saw it, but if someone like Jijige the bishop sees it, they will absolutely take it as evidence of your faith in a heretical god. Remember, unless it’s the most critical moment, it’s best not to use this flame!”

Nanaya hesitated. “I see… but I spent a lot of points on it…” She lowered her eyes, as if genuinely lamenting the points she hadn’t spent.

“Anyway, you’d better stop using it. If you really need points, you can come to me for help!”

“Mm, thank you.”

Since she had found out the reason, Menglinna naturally had no reason to stay, so she stood up and left.

Watching the door slowly close, Nanaya finally let out a long sigh. ‘I managed to fool her. She’s a morally bankrupt scumbag miss, but she’s surprisingly sharp about things like this.’

Just as she lay down on the bed, the Flame Evil God’s voice rang in her mind again. “You might as well have told her the truth directly.”

The thought of this damned evil god always going against her made Nanaya furious. “Bullshit! You heard what she said just now. If someone else finds out, we’re both screwed!”

The Flame Evil God had indeed heard the conversation, but precisely because of that, He wasn’t very worried. “It would be deadly if someone else found out, but she’s different, right? I can feel that golden-haired woman cares about you. Even if you came clean, I think she’d just help you cover it up.”

“What the hell do you know!” The more Nanaya thought about it, the angrier she got. She tossed the Flame Giant Whip aside and reached for the juvenile remains on the table. The smooth purple gem inexplicably brought her peace of mind. Though she didn’t yet know what the necklace was good for, its calming effect alone was satisfactory.

The Flame Evil God’s voice rang out again. It had to be said, this guy truly was an evil god, effortlessly shattering Nanaya’s good mood. “By the way, I have a request.”

“I don’t want to hear it.”

“It’s beneficial for you too,” the Flame Evil God’s voice turned serious. “You know, though you always call me the Flame God, my true identity is the God of Forging.”

Nanaya retorted irritably, “We all call you the Flame Evil God. Don’t go removing key words.”

“That sort of thing doesn’t matter,” though displeased, the Flame Evil God didn’t argue further. “The alien creature’s juvenile remains have fallen into your hands!”

“So?”

“I’m the God of Forging, and honestly, I’ve never tried using this as material before!” In Nanaya’s mind, the Flame Evil God made a rubbing-hands-together sound. “Can I take control of your body to forge it? I guarantee I can make the best equipment out of it!”

Nanaya frowned, and after a long pause, asked, “Really?”

“Of course it’s real!”

After receiving Nanaya’s answer, Menglinna returned to her room in satisfaction. ‘It’s a relief that Nanaya hasn’t made contact with the evil god,’ she couldn’t help but think. Sitting at the desk that had been converted into a workbench, Menglinna began to unwrap the bandages on her left hand. Her hand had been burned by Nanaya’s flame earlier, but under the combined treatment of divine magic and potions, the wound was slowly healing.
