This trip wasn’t just tough for Meng Linna.
Na Naya took a hit too, joining the Flame Giant hunt.
Maybe because she held the Flame Giant Whip, the evil fire god sleeping in the giant wasn’t fully destroyed.
A wisp of its soul latched onto her hand.
Even her System couldn’t handle it.
Luckily, it seemed harmless for now.
It kept tempting her to offer sacrifices, but ignoring it worked.
Aside from the minor nuisance of the evil god, Meng Ming didn’t just talk to Meng Linna and Ji Jige.
As Na Naya’s biggest sponsor, he had a private chat with her too.
Beyond checking on her daily life, he brought up his youngest daughter, Meng Linna.
He knew Meng Linna had wronged Na Naya.
But he also knew they were once close.
He wanted them to reconcile.
As her sponsor, he gave Na Naya a task.
Convince Meng Linna to return to the family.
If not, stay by her side and watch her.
A lone nun like Na Naya couldn’t refuse her backer.
Thinking of her next steps, Na Naya sighed.
Would it have been better to reject Meng Ming’s help?
Her heavy sigh caught Meng Linna’s attention.
“Sorry, am I bothering you?”
“No, just thinking.”
Na Naya had to admit, this blonde beauty’s humble attitude was jarring.
It was hard to reconcile her with the gentle big sister from Na Naya’s monastery days.
Na Naya looked down, avoiding her gaze.
“Thanks for back at Gria Volcano.”
“Huh, me?”
Meng Linna was caught off guard by the thanks.
“Yeah, thanks to you, we beat the evil fire god.”
Meng Linna waved it off, embarrassed.
“Haha, nah, it was all Little Ji.”
Na Naya tilted her head.
“You two seem close.”
Calling a cardinal “Little Ji”?
Most nuns wouldn’t dare.
“Uh, she’s just chill!”
Meng Linna cursed herself.
Why couldn’t she drop that nickname?
“Oh.”
Na Naya nodded.
Silence fell again.
Always the same—Na Naya asks, Meng Linna answers.
A boring loop.
Looking at Meng Linna’s goofy grin, Na Naya felt a twinge of boredom.
Meng Ming wanted her to convince Meng Linna to return.
With their current relationship, good luck.
Na Naya decided to chat first.
“You seem to know a lot about the evil fire god.”
Perfect topic.
It wouldn’t stump Meng Linna, deepened Na Naya’s understanding of the god in her, and wasn’t too abrupt.
Na Naya mentally high-fived her topic-picking skills.
“The evil fire god?”
Meng Linna knew plenty but dreaded explaining her sources.
If not for her mission success, Ji Jige might’ve grilled her.
“Yeah, I know a bit. What do you want to know?”
Na Naya saw a chance to close the gap.
“What’s the evil fire god?”
Meng Linna grabbed a water cup, explaining.
“Broadly, it’s the one-eyed monster in the Flame Giant. We call it the evil fire god, but it’s the forging god worshipped by Flame Giants.”
Na Naya blinked.
“Forging god?”
“Yeah. In ancient times, forging was a sacred ritual. The evil fire god was a normal giant once. Toxic forging fumes blinded one eye, making it a one-eyed, limping god.”
“Got it.”
Na Naya nodded.
Scumbag Miss knew her stuff.
She pressed on.
“Why did it end up in that Flame Giant?”
Meng Linna didn’t answer right away.
She wagged a finger.
“Didn’t you check the village evidence?”
Na Naya had focused on looting fire curse books.
She even learned a few with Ji Jige’s permission.
She nodded, embarrassed.
Meng Linna crossed her legs smugly.
“If you’d read the chief’s diary, you’d know. When the church crushed the evil fire god, only one Flame Giant survived, hiding in magma. Without a body, the god latched onto it, waiting to rise again.”
Meng Linna always studied intel, before and after missions.
Na Naya regretted skipping it but kept asking.
“So it only possesses Flame Giants?”
“Not quite. Anything touched by its power can be a host. Like the Fire Seekers. But humans are too weak to handle it.”
She eyed Na Naya curiously.
“Why ask? Worried you’ll get possessed?”
Na Naya almost denied it but nodded.
“Yeah, you can’t be too careful with heretics.”
Meng Linna brushed it off.
“Nah, we’re far from the volcano. The god can’t catch up.”
