“Come on, I’m a genius, right?”

Facing Na Naya’s question, Meng Linna tried to play it off.

Na Naya just chuckled twice.

Seeing Na Naya’s confident expression, Meng Linna realized arguing was pointless.

This girl already had her answer before asking.

Meng Linna lowered her head, staring at her parfait.

“Fine, I did absorb the Water Spirit Heart.”

Na Naya smirked, as if saying ‘I knew it.’

“So, if I’m not wrong, you got that Water Spirit Heart from killing the A-rank Water Spirit in that ruin?”

No point hiding the details now.

Meng Linna scooped her parfait, speaking slowly.

“Exactly. That day, I stumbled into that ruin. No monsters the whole way. Not until the boss room did I realize you’d cleared them.”

“So you swooped in after the Water Spirit knocked me out?”

Na Naya locked eyes with Meng Linna, checking for lies.

“You’re so strong, I thought you’d handle it…”

Meng Linna’s gaze wavered.

“I wasn’t planning to act. But after it knocked you out, it came for me. I acted in self-defense.”

“It was you.”

Na Naya nodded, unbothered by her loss.

“So, answer me this. You weren’t C-rank then. How’d you beat that Water Spirit?”

“It used up its Source Water to beat you. It was weakened. I just tossed a couple of spells and won.”

All true, but Meng Linna was definitely hiding something.

“Fair enough.”

Na Naya nodded, accepting the explanation easily.

“So.”

Just as Meng Linna relaxed, Na Naya’s voice cut in.

“You saved me that time, right?”

Meng Linna nodded.

“Yeah.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Na Naya looked puzzled.

“You’ve been begging for forgiveness. Why not use saving my life to demand it?”

To Na Naya, it was unthinkable.

This scumbag missing a chance to leverage her?

She hadn’t suspected Meng Linna at first.

“That’d be holding it over you.”

Meng Linna looked confused.

“Forgiveness like that’s just for show. Plus, I took the Water Spirit Heart that should’ve been yours. I wasn’t shameless enough to ask for more.”

Na Naya shook her head.

“Adventurer rules. You killed it, you earned the loot. No such thing as stealing.”

Meng Linna hummed softly.

If she said so, there was nothing more to say.

“That’s twice you’ve saved me.”

Na Naya’s fingers tapped the table.

“How do you want me to repay you?”

Repay?

Meng Linna carefully chose her words.

“As a nun, saving people’s my duty. Not for thanks. But if I don’t ask for anything, you’d feel bad, right? Everyone knows gratitude. Especially a saintess candidate like you.”

Quite the speech.

Na Naya stared, knowing a condition was coming.

“If possible, can you forgive me?”

When the blonde said it, Na Naya almost laughed.

She saved her twice, and all she wanted was forgiveness?

She expected something harsher.

Na Naya smiled inexplicably.

“Okay.”

“Huh, no way, right? Wait, what’d you say?”

Meng Linna looked shocked, as if hearing an ancient god’s whisper.

“I said okay.”

Na Naya’s smile faded.

“I forgive you.”

“For real?”

Meng Linna was stunned.

Na Naya crossed her arms on the table.

“Of course it’s real. I forgive you. But—”

Na Naya stood, looming over the blonde.

“Forgiveness is one thing. Wrongdoings still need punishment.”

Facing Na Naya’s sudden intensity, Meng Linna swallowed hard.

“What punishment?”

“Scumbag Miss, you’re such a bad woman.”

Na Naya leaned closer, pressing toward Meng Linna.

The blonde shrank back until her back hit the couch.

No more room to retreat.

That refined face filled Meng Linna’s view.

Na Naya was so close, their noses almost touched.

What was this?

Was she going to kiss her?

Logic screamed it was absurd, but Meng Linna’s face flushed red.

“For bad women, there’s a special way.”

Na Naya’s hands pinned Meng Linna’s escape routes.

“Scumbag Miss, remember this. I won’t let you off easy.”

“…Okay.”

Meng Linna didn’t know where to look.

She closed her eyes.

“But aren’t you a bit too close?”

The evil fire god piped up in Na Naya’s mind.

[“Kiss her!”]

Tch.”

The god’s voice snapped Na Naya back.

She’d gotten too worked up.

She hadn’t noticed how close she’d gotten.

She just meant to scare her.

Why’d it feel like she was about to force a kiss?

Na Naya sat back, sipping her drink.

Realizing Na Naya had retreated, Meng Linna opened her eyes.

Like a dove surviving a hawk by playing dead.

Seeing her scared yet surprised look, Na Naya teased.

“What’d you think was gonna happen?”

Meng Linna’s already red face steamed hotter.

“Or were you expecting something?”
