Chapter 94: An Unwanted Reunion

Menglinna couldn’t help but look down. The materials weren’t too many—either someone had already cleaned up, or someone had secretly taken a portion.

Thankfully, there were no suspicious liquids on the ground.

After silently cursing Yixing for being such a mess, Menglinna pretended not to notice anything and began picking up the materials.

Yixing, weak and barely standing, steadied herself. The monsters that spawned at her spot were armored lizards—just like their name, they were only lizards, yet inexplicably bore overly thick shells.

If encountered in the wild, only a reckless fool would attack their shells, trying to break through their defense by force. Experienced adventurers, on the other hand, would aim for places without armor—like the eyes.

Just then, a new armored lizard spawned at the spot. But the daggers that should have been used to deal with it were long since thrown aside by the two of them. Menglinna shook her head, almost ready to handle the monster herself.

Thinking about it, the two of them had been busy here for so long; it was about time the monsters respawned.

But the seemingly weak Yixing grabbed the armored lizard the next second and, with her bare hands, snapped its spine.

The lizard, now paralyzed, could only let Yixing do as she pleased. After twisting its neck around a few times until it was completely dead, Yixing looked down to find the dagger to process the corpse.

Menglinna lowered her hand, which had been reaching for her holy bell. Honestly, from what she had just seen, Yixing was definitely off.

According to information from Miaomiaonia, Yixing was only a D-rank adventurer. And while armored lizards were also D-rank monsters, their defense was exceptional. To kill one so brutally with bare hands—it was hard to believe that was just D-rank strength.

Perhaps in their human forms, they still retained the strength of their beast forms. This information had to be passed on quickly.

Menglinna pretended to be calm as she bent down to pick up materials, but inside, she was already planning the shortest route out.

“I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before.”

Yixing leaned down, meeting Menglinna’s gaze.

What was she doing? Had she been discovered? Was she about to be killed?

A little nervous, Menglinna still pretended not to care as she continued collecting. “Maybe, who knows, haha…”

Yixing nodded. “I remember now. You’re that damned nun, aren’t you? I never thought even you would stoop to working in a shady factory like this.”

Though she wanted to argue, Menglinna’s instincts told her not to provoke. She nodded with an embarrassed smile. “Gotta make a living, right?”

She shook the cart full of materials. “Grab what you can, earn what you can. Well, my cart’s almost full. Time to get out.”

Just then, the man from before returned. Yixing tossed the lizard corpse and dagger to him. “Perfect timing. I’m tired of working anyway. I’ll head out with you.”

Though she wanted to refuse, Menglinna couldn’t say much. She just pulled her mask higher. “Suit yourself.”

After they had walked a bit and there were fewer people around, Yixing spoke. “You heard everything back there, didn’t you? I mean, no one pushes a cart like that.”

Menglinna felt her head spinning. Sister, why are you asking this? It’s obvious I don’t want to know!

She didn’t answer, only nodded silently.

Yixing wasn’t looking at her, so she didn’t see the nod. She assumed Menglinna’s silence was confirmation. “Pretty funny, isn’t it? I actually have a boyfriend, but I still did it for the money, to get a better position.”

I really don’t want to know!

Menglinna screamed internally, but on the surface she acted obediently. “Mm-hmm, I totally understand. Life’s tough for everyone!”

But her empathetic words clearly backfired, angering Yixing. “What do you understand? Have you sold yourself as much as I have? With that pretty face and big tits of yours, what right do you have to understand!”

The sudden outburst made Menglinna panic. She regretted not thinking before speaking.

Why was she so careless?

But words once spoken were like water thrown out. Instead of explaining, it was better to accept it.

Menglinna pretended to hesitate before slowly nodding. “Yes.”

“Yes?” Yixing stared at her incredulously, then burst out laughing. “Haha, and here I thought you were all holy and pure. Turns out you’re the same as me. We’re both dirty.”

Menglinna nodded bitterly. She had only made things worse for herself.

Yixing seemed genuinely pleased. “Well then, we can be sisters now. Who have you partnered with?”

From Yixing’s expression, there was no way to brush this off.

Menglinna thought for a moment, then pretended to be embarrassed. “Nanaya.”

“Nanaya?” Yixing looked as if she’d seen a ghost. “The saint candidate?”

Menglinna gritted her teeth and nodded. “Yeah. She’s the saint candidate, right? Before, I wanted to learn a few divine spells, so I spent a few nights serving her…”

“Stop, stop,” Yixing made a face of disgust. “I don’t want to hear it. I can’t believe you’re that kind of person!”

Menglinna frowned in confusion. “That kind of person?”

“Better stay away from me,” Yixing said, stepping back. “I don’t like you gays.”

Well, whatever worked. At least for now, Menglinna had created distance between them. They walked out of the factory without exchanging another word.

If she could just leave like this, it would be perfect. But life always had a way of tormenting people.

Because she hadn’t told anyone before leaving, Nanaya, who had asked Miaomiaonia, was waiting at the exit for Menglinna.

Seeing the saint candidate standing there waiting for someone, Yixing’s tone turned sour. “Oh, your little saint is waiting for you so eagerly. Why don’t you go give her a hug?”

Menglinna’s vision went dark. Why did Nanaya have to show up now?

The meaning in Yixing’s eyes was clear: You said you two were together, so prove it.

Seeing Yixing’s unstable mood, Menglinna’s mind flashed through countless tragic endings that would follow if she didn’t satisfy Yixing’s demands. She decided to go all out.

Pulling off her gloves and mask, she directly wrapped her arm around Nanaya’s. “Honey, what brings you here to see me today?”
