Chapter 77: First Love’s Awakening

Maybe because her father ran a dojo, Liying had been surrounded by men since she was a child, most of them her father’s disciples.

Because of that, unlike most girls, Liying never felt a sense of distance when dealing with boys.

She was so used to men that she always looked at them from a friend’s perspective.

But today, Liying felt she understood what first love was.

It was like biting into the sourest green apple. The sourness seeped from her tongue into her bones, yet her brain tasted the sweetest flavor.

Her whole body felt electrified, a tingling numbness from head to toe.

Even though Liying had never experienced love before, and should have no idea what ‘liking’ someone felt like.

But when you meet the person you like, a single moment is enough.

As if by instinct, she understood: this must be ‘liking’.

Lying in bed, Liying’s mind was filled with Chen Lin’s face.

She didn’t understand why she would like such an ordinary high school boy, but whenever she thought of Chen Lin, her heartbeat quickened.

“…My dear… where did you go…” Liying said sadly.

Because the person she liked appeared before her like a passing traveler, leaving a deep mark on her life.

Then, before she could reach out, he drifted away like spring rain, gently coming but quickly disappearing.

To find the person she liked, Liying had made some efforts. She asked around at the tutoring center, but none of the students except herself knew Chen Lin.

When she asked the security staff, she got a bit of useful information.

According to security, Chen Lin seemed to have sneaked into the campus, possibly to audit a class.

Liying found this strange because she felt Chen Lin looked familiar. Hadn’t she seen him at the tutoring center before?

If not at the tutoring center, then where had she seen him?

Was it at the dojo? Among the students there?

Thinking of this possibility, excitement made Liying jump out of bed immediately. She went to the dojo’s student records room and started searching through file cabinets.

Since it was her family’s dojo, no one stopped her.

Liying estimated that Chen Lin was a first-year high school student, about sixteen years old.

Considering that her family’s dojo didn’t accept students under eight, if she checked the enrollment records of the past eight years, she should find something.

After spending four full hours going through the records of the past ten years, she still couldn’t find the information she wanted.

Facing this result, Liying sat down dejectedly, her eyes a little vacant, her mind wandering.

“What are you doing? It’s almost midnight. Go back to your room and rest. Even though tomorrow is Sunday, I won’t allow you to stay up late.” Her father pushed open the door and urged her to return.

Liying went back to her room like a puppet, mechanically sitting on her bed.

If she hadn’t seen Chen Lin at the dojo or the tutoring center, then where had she seen him?

Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck her like lightning.

She walked to her wardrobe, opened a drawer, and pulled out her middle school diploma. More importantly, underneath it was the class photo.

Besides the class group photo, there was a group photo of the entire graduating grade.

Throwing her class photo aside, Liying picked up the grade-wide photo.

With just one glance, she excitedly hugged the photo. As if locking on target, she spotted Chen Lin immediately.

Even better, below the photo, student names were marked according to their standing positions.

This small detail had never mattered to her before, but now it was the most brilliant design.

‘Chen Lin.’ What a nice name.

Now she knew his class.

Great. As long as she knew his middle school class and name, investigating him wouldn’t be hard.

Liying looked through Chen Lin’s class and easily found a somewhat familiar face. She remembered that her best friend seemed to know him.

So Liying immediately picked up the phone and called her best friend.

It was already late at night, and her friend was asleep, but Liying woke her up with three consecutive calls.

“…What is it…” The voice on the other end was clearly drowsy.

“I have something very important I need to ask you…” Liying explained her request.

“…Got it. That’s not difficult…” Her friend replied, yawning.

The next day at noon, in a beverage shop, Liying couldn’t contain her excitement and arrived an hour early.

The shop was very close to her old middle school, with mainly students as customers. Since it was Sunday, business was slow.

The young shop owner glanced at her a few times, remembering her. Such a beautiful girl, like a blooming flower in a crowd, was hard to forget.

After she graduated, the quality of pretty girls at that school dropped sharply.

Liying didn’t have to wait long. The person she invited also came almost an hour early.

He was a somewhat strong high school student, an old schoolmate from her middle school. Liying only learned his name last night.

“Liying, you’re early,” he said.

“Not too early. You’re early too,” Liying replied politely with a warm smile. “Thank you for meeting me on a Sunday. What would you like to drink? My treat, please don’t be shy.”

“No need, really.” He declined.

“How about juice?” Liying asked.

“Sure…” He answered a bit awkwardly, never expecting a girl to buy him a drink.
