Chapter 79: The Unwanted Date

Even though Chen Lin managed to escape on Saturday by using the excuse of helping Jin Jie, he couldn’t avoid trouble forever.

At six in the morning on Sunday, just as Chen Lin, who had been troubled all night because of Liying, was drifting into a light sleep due to exhaustion.

The sound of the door opening after a key turned in the lock pierced Chen Lin’s ears like a needle.

He had been on the verge of deep sleep, but that faint yet piercing sound woke him up.

Was it Yan?

Or Shihan?

Both had keys to his place, so it wouldn’t be strange for either to show up now.

He didn’t bother checking the exact time on his phone. Instead, he glanced through the gap in the curtains. From the light outside, he guessed it was somewhere between 5:45 and 6:15 in the morning.

Someone who had once killed him was now entering his house without permission.

Chen Lin wasn’t thick-skinned enough to fall back asleep under those circumstances.

“Big brother, are you awake?”

Yan’s soft voice came from outside his bedroom door.

Chen Lin frowned. So it was Yan who had come to his house. She was always early.

He should have guessed. Only she would come this early. Shihan usually didn’t arrive at this hour.

Just as Chen Lin was thinking that, he heard Shihan’s voice too. “Shh, keep it down. Chen Lin is resting. Let’s not disturb him.”

Shihan was very considerate, but unfortunately, the moment they appeared, Chen Lin was already awake.

So it wasn’t just Yan. For some reason, Shihan had also come early today.

“Then should we just wait in the living room?” Yan asked.

“Of course. We did come a bit too early after all,” Shihan replied.

Even though neither Yan nor Shihan wanted to disturb him, Chen Lin couldn’t fall back asleep. He just lay in bed with his eyes closed.

Since they didn’t want to wake him, he decided to pretend to sleep and stay in his room, avoiding the need to face them.

Time passed, and it was now ten in the morning. Four hours had passed since Yan and Shihan arrived.

Finally, both of them ran out of patience. They decided to enter Chen Lin’s bedroom and wake him up.

When Chen Lin heard their footsteps approaching his door, he immediately got out of bed, he had been awake for a while.

“Is that Yan and Shihan?” he called out from his room.

“Honestly, big brother is such a sleepyhead. It’s already ten o’clock. The sun is shining on your butt,” Yan said with mild dissatisfaction.

Unlike Yan, Shihan knocked on Chen Lin’s door and said, “Breakfast is ready. Go wash up and come out to eat. Since you slept in, we might be a bit tight on time for today’s date.”

“D-Date?” Chen Lin asked in surprise.

Shihan reminded him, “Come on, I already gave you a day off yesterday. You need to make it up to me and Yan today. Right, Yan?”

“Yeah!” Yan nodded energetically.

Chen Lin really didn’t want to go on a date. For him, dating Shihan and Yan was torture.

He was about to bring up his good buddy Jin Jie as an excuse again, but he stopped himself.

Lying was useless if the lie could easily be exposed.

He had no plans to meet Jin Jie today. If Shihan and Yan found out he was lying just to avoid them, the consequences would be dire.

After weighing the pros and cons, Chen Lin finally gave in.

After washing up in the bathroom, he changed into casual clothes: a long-sleeved T-shirt and yellow casual pants.

A glass of orange juice and a sandwich were already on the dining table. Without asking, Chen Lin knew they were for him. He sat down and started eating.

Shihan sat on his left, Yan on his right. They watched him eat breakfast from both sides.

For them, watching someone else eat might have been boring, but when that someone was Chen Lin, it wasn’t boring at all.

To be honest, Chen Lin hadn’t been used to being watched while eating. Who would be?

At first, just being stared at by Shihan and Yan made him feel awkward. He would even choke on his food.

But over time, he had gotten used to it. Now he could eat breakfast under their eager gazes without being affected.

“Where are we going for today’s date? A movie?” Chen Lin asked.

Shihan replied by pulling out her phone and opening a webpage. “Yan and I have already discussed it. We’re going to this amusement park.”

They had both anticipated that Chen Lin, being such a straight guy, would just suggest a movie to brush them off. So they had already decided.

“Nice place,” Chen Lin said flatly. It wasn’t like he had any say in the matter anyway.

After breakfast, they took Shihan’s car to the amusement park.

The park was quite famous in Chen Lin’s city. It had been open for thirty years, longer than Chen Lin had been alive.

But thanks to good management and regular updates to the rides, it was still a popular spot with huge crowds.

Since it was Sunday, the park was packed. Long lines stretched in front of many attractions.

Dragged by Shihan and Yan, Chen Lin found himself at the end of a long queue. Looking at it, he knew they’d have to wait at least an hour to get on this ride.

But for Chen Lin, that was good news. Most of the time would be spent queuing, so they’d only get to a few things.

If he was lucky, today would pass quickly. An unexpected stroke of luck.
