Join the ServerAfter hearing Liying’s reply of “I don’t know,” Chen Lin felt a headache coming on.
She had no idea what might happen to her, yet she casually followed a strange guy home. She really was too unwary.
Fortunately, Chen Lin considered himself a gentleman. He might not be completely immune to a girl’s charm, but at least he would never do anything bad to one.
Thinking back to the scene in the alley, Chen Lin still felt a chill. If he hadn’t arrived in time, who knew what unthinkable consequences might have occurred.
Strictly speaking, whatever happened to Liying had nothing to do with him. That was the logic. But if he hadn’t known, he wouldn’t have known.
Now that he knew Liying might be in danger, he couldn’t simply turn a blind eye and pretend not to care.
“Liying, the reason I brought you to my home is actually very simple. I hope we can sit down and have a proper talk,” Chen Lin said to Liying.
“About what?”
“For example, sharing our thoughts with each other.” As he spoke, Chen Lin stared into Liying’s eyes.
Liying didn’t avoid his gaze when he said that. Her big, sparkling eyes looked at him with longing. The innocent, sincere feeling in them was so obvious that even a love idiot like Chen Lin could see right through it.
Liying gently bit her full, rosy lips. A blush crept over her cheeks. She leaned her delicate body toward Chen Lin.
If Chen Lin were willing to reach out, it would be all too easy to pull her soft, lovely body into a comfortable embrace.
But Chen Lin didn’t do that. Instead, he took a step back.
Because of that, Liying’s beautiful eyes dimmed a little. “Am I not attractive?”
“It’s not that. You’re very charming. But I don’t like you. Of course, that’s not because you’re lacking. It’s my own problem. So we should keep some distance between us. It’s better for both of us,” Chen Lin said to Liying.
Unfortunately, such a weak, pale excuse wasn’t enough to make Liying give up.
Liying had long known that Chen Lin didn’t like her. She had probably expected him to say something like this, so she had already prepared her response.
Even at this moment, Liying refused to lie about her feelings.
“Really… is there really no possibility at all?” Liying asked softly.
Faced with such a direct question, Chen Lin knew the answer was no.
Liying was a very good girl. The fault wasn’t hers. It was his own inadequacy, and the fact that he had once tried to entrust love to a curse.
He had been too weak before. Now, he absolutely didn’t want his love to be corrupted by a curse.
He was no longer the weak person he used to be. That was why Chen Lin answered, “At least for now, there really is no possibility between us.”
Liying looked at him stubbornly. “But if it’s for you, I can give anything. Even if you had a girlfriend, I’d accept it. I don’t need to be your girlfriend. I can just be a safe harbor for you when you’re lonely. That’s enough for me. I don’t need any reward from you, and I don’t expect any promise. Isn’t that enough? As long as you don’t abandon me, I’ll agree to whatever you ask…”
“Enough.” Seeing how humble Liying was making herself, Chen Lin couldn’t allow her to keep thinking that way. He immediately cut her off.
He was genuinely worried about how easily such an innocent girl like Liying could be taken advantage of if she met a bad person.
Then Chen Lin appealed to her emotions and reason, telling her how a girl should protect herself.
An hour later, Chen Lin’s mouth was parched from talking.
Liying was a very good listener, quietly taking in everything he said.
“So do you understand now? No one is worth you sacrificing yourself like that. A man who makes you give up your self-respect isn’t worth liking,” Chen Lin lectured.
His throat was so dry that he poured himself a glass of water and drank it in one go.
“Has your view changed now?” Chen Lin asked Liying.
Liying raised a slender finger and tapped her cheek in a dazed way. “But you’re not that kind of bad person, Chen Lin. So there’s no problem.”
“That’s not it. You shouldn’t think that way. You know people’s faces, not their hearts. Don’t you know that? I might look respectable now, but who knows? Once I take off my clothes, I could be worse than a beast!” Chen Lin immediately lectured loudly.
Liying felt warm inside seeing Chen Lin so anxious for her. “I don’t believe you, unless you let me experience it for myself.” She rubbed her inner thigh as if anticipating something.
Seeing Liying act as if she was seducing him, Chen Lin grabbed his hair, about to lose his mind. At this rate, all the talking had come back to square one.
Liying was really too defenseless. She gave off the feeling that she could be easily pushed down.
He didn’t know how to keep lecturing her. He felt at a loss for words. He needed time to sort things out, but clearly there wasn’t enough time tonight, and he didn’t have the energy to continue lecturing.
Chen Lin glanced at the time. It was almost eleven at night.
If Liying didn’t go home soon, it would be bad in more ways than one.
“Let’s stop here for today. We’ve already exchanged contact info. I’ll contact you if there’s a chance. You can go home now,” Chen Lin said to Liying.
“Huh? It’s over that quickly…” Liying furrowed her thin brows slightly, looking reluctant.
“It’s already almost eleven. By all accounts, shouldn’t this be over?” Chen Lin said.
“It’s only eleven. That’s nothing.” Liying acted like she wanted to stay longer at Chen Lin’s place.
Chen Lin naturally wouldn’t let her have her way. He replied bluntly, “It’s late. You have to go home right now!”
