Join the ServerThis was the train station, after all. Shihan’s confession, delivered at full volume, drew the attention of countless passersby.
Shihan no longer cared about the onlookers. Her only concern now was Chen Lin’s answer—what would it be?
Chen Lin was dumbfounded, completely stunned. His mind was a blank.
Shihan was an undeniably adorable girl. There was no doubt about that.
And yet this exquisitely beautiful girl had just confessed to Chen Lin, a boy who looked utterly ordinary. The scene was nothing short of striking.
People had stopped to watch. A few busybodies began to chatter.
“What’s this? Filming a short video?”
“That guy must be rich, right?”
“Probably a fake confession. I bet it’s some prank.”
In such a crowded and chaotic environment, how could Chen Lin possibly respond to Shihan?
At the very least, this was not the place to stay. They needed to go somewhere with fewer people.
So, in a moment of desperation, Chen Lin grabbed Shihan’s hand.
“Come with me,” he said to her.
Without even asking where they were going, Shihan obediently followed him.
Only after they had left the station far behind and shaken off the crowd did Chen Lin stop. They were beside a closed-down barber shop that looked like it had been shuttered for a long time—its glass window was shattered, probably by a thrown stone.
There were no pedestrians walking this road at night. Perhaps the barber shop had failed because of the lack of foot traffic.
Here, they finally found quiet.
Shihan had not spoken a single word the entire way. It was as if she trusted Chen Lin completely.
Because she liked him, it didn’t matter where he took her.
Running here, Chen Lin’s mind had been churning with thoughts.
Not just about Shihan’s feelings, but more about his own emotions.
If he accepted Shihan’s confession, he would obviously become her official boyfriend.
Even though Shihan wasn’t the Meiyue-senpai he liked, he could still see traces of Meiyue in her.
After all, they were half-sisters. Some resemblance was only natural.
But accepting Shihan—he didn’t think he could do that.
Shihan was Shihan, Meiyue was Meiyue, and he was himself. Every person was a unique existence in this world.
If he accepted Shihan’s confession out of compromise, it would deeply hurt both his own feelings and Shihan’s future.
So he really couldn’t accept it. He was too aware of his heart at this moment—he liked Meiyue-senpai.
That was precisely why he had to face his own heart and sincerely reject Shihan.
Chen Lin slapped his own cheeks and looked earnestly at Shihan. She was nervously twisting her index fingers, clearly anxious for his answer.
“I’m truly, truly happy to hear you confess to me. You’re so adorable, and yet you took the initiative. It feels like a dream. A guy like me might never have such good fortune again.” A gentle smile appeared on Chen Lin’s face. He spoke to Shihan in the softest tone possible.
“Then…” Shihan seemed about to say something, but Chen Lin didn’t let her interrupt. He continued gently.
“That’s exactly why I can’t accept your confession right now. Thinking, ‘This is a good opportunity, so I’ll just go with it’—I feel that would be disrespectful to you.” He took a deep breath. He knew he had to be clear.
“I’m sorry.”
It wasn’t easy for Chen Lin to say those words. And it was just as hard for the one hearing them.
Rejected outright by Chen Lin, Shihan’s legs gave way. She nearly collapsed.
Seeing this, Chen Lin reached out to steady her, but she slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch me.”
She had used considerable force. The back of Chen Lin’s left hand turned red. But he didn’t get angry. He spoke earnestly. “I’m sorry.”
“Enough. I don’t want to hear you say you’re sorry. Why do those three words have to be so hateful? I’m so sick of this.” After this outburst, Shihan’s tone turned plaintive. “Even if it’s a lie, can you not say ‘I’m sorry’ to me?”
“I can’t do that.” Chen Lin refused without hesitation.
He knew he had to be firm.
Shihan was heartbroken. He wouldn’t even lie to her. Was she really so worthless in his eyes? She felt as if ants were tearing her apart, piece by piece.
It hurt so much. She wanted to drive the ants away, but they wouldn’t leave.
Like maggots burrowing into her bones—impossible to expel.
So this was what it felt like to be rejected. She was so unwilling to accept it.
“What about later? Will I have a chance in the future?” Shihan asked, as if struggling upward from an abyss.
“Who knows? The future is uncertain. I’m only saying that right now, I can’t accept you,” Chen Lin replied.
Shihan, slightly out of sorts, stood frozen in place.
What was this? So that’s how it was…
It wasn’t Chen Lin who was wrong. It was her.
What had she been thinking? Why did she have to confess to Chen Lin right after their first date?
It was because she liked him too much. She had unconsciously ignored his feelings.
She was such an idiot. How could she forget such a simple truth?
If she truly cared about Chen Lin, she should pay more attention to his feelings. That made sense.
Suddenly, Shihan’s pain eased. She still had a chance. This wasn’t the time to wallow. She wouldn’t give up.
Wiping away her tears, she knew she had to be strong.
Chen Lin was a bit taken aback. Just moments ago, he didn’t know how to comfort her, but now she had stopped crying.
“I’m truly sorry for today. Could you forget what I said? If so, I’d like to treat you to milk tea as an apology.” No longer hysterical, Shihan reverted to her usual elegant and composed demeanor. She spoke to Chen Lin politely.
