Chapter 107: Breakfast for Chen Lin

For Liying, studying had always been simple.

Even at a key high school packed with top middle school students, she still ranked near the top.

If she kept this up, a top-tier university would basically be a piece of cake. It wouldn’t be the university choosing her; she would be the one deciding which one to attend.

But even after a lecture from her homeroom teacher, Liying still had no mood to continue class. Sitting in the classroom, she turned to look out the window.

In the blue sky, clouds of all shapes drifted slowly with the wind.

Her relaxed attitude stood out completely against the intense, hardworking atmosphere in the classroom.

The teacher on the podium noticed her behavior, but didn’t even frown, let alone stop her. He just kept talking on his own.

After the school day ended, Liying returned to her family’s dojo.

Her father was conducting basic training for the new students.

She had seen this scene countless times. Maybe because a very pretty high school girl walked past the training hall, some students’ eyes were unconsciously drawn to Liying.

After eating a quick dinner, Liying dropped onto her bed, pulled out her phone, and looked at the screen.

The last message on the chat app was still the one she had sent. There was no new reply from Chen Lin.

She tapped the screen and typed something, but quickly deleted it.

She had done this many times today.

Every time she was about to hit send, she worried that her impulsive message would disturb Chen Lin and annoy him.

She only wanted to send a simple chat message, and yet it made her agonize.

If she didn’t contact him first, would Chen Lin take the initiative to message her today?

With this uneasy feeling, Liying waited until nine o’clock. She didn’t know what Chen Lin was doing now. Maybe homework, maybe dinner, maybe playing a mobile game.

Perhaps “liking someone” meant there was a person who could easily control your emotions, someone you couldn’t help but care about.

Maybe she couldn’t hold it in anymore. Liying tapped the screen and composed a message.

[What are you doing now?]

It was the most ordinary greeting, but it was filled with her concern for Chen Lin.

She wanted to tell him she missed him so much right now. But she couldn’t say those words.

After sending it, when she looked at the screen again, a little hope rose in her heart.

She wondered what Chen Lin would reply.

She waited until eleven at night. Finally, Chen Lin’s reply came. Leaning against her pillow, Liying looked at it immediately.

[I’m going to sleep. Good night.]

It seemed like a perfunctory message, the kind that could kill a conversation.

Even so, though her heart was a little disappointed, she was still happy that he had replied.

When the person you like pays attention to you, of course you’re happy. But that happiness came with a price: learning to accept disappointment.

From then on, life would never be simple again.

By all rights, she should be satisfied that Chen Lin replied.

But love always makes people greedy, makes them want more. A message wasn’t enough. Liying wanted to see him.

If not tonight, then tomorrow morning.

She thought, if she brought Chen Lin breakfast, would he accept her kindness?

Would it be better to pretend it was a chance encounter, so he wouldn’t feel pressured?

She set her alarm and got up at four in the morning.

After making sandwiches in the kitchen, she left home, hurrying to Chen Lin’s place.

To avoid him going out early to buy breakfast and wasting her effort, she needed to stake out early.

A few minutes past five, Liying arrived near the downstairs of Chen Lin’s building. The sky was just beginning to lighten at the horizon.

Through the windows, she guessed Chen Lin was still asleep.

She knew she had come too early, but felt it was best to be earlier and well prepared.

Just stand there waiting like an idiot in front of his building?

That wouldn’t do. She’d look weird and might scare Chen Lin.

If she wanted to make it look like a chance encounter, she couldn’t let him find her first.

She walked around the area and found a corner to hide in, then waited patiently.

Cupping the insulated container with the sandwiches in both hands, Liying hoped that Chen Lin would smile when he ate them.

After about half an hour, she noticed a luxury sedan pulling up downstairs at Chen Lin’s building.

It was so eye-catching that she couldn’t miss it even if she wanted to.

A middle school student wearing the uniform of a noble academy got out of it. Her f…
