Right now, the thing that troubled Chen Lin the most in his life was the fact that Shihan and Yan liked him.
Being liked by girls should have been a happy thing. But Chen Lin couldn’t be happy no matter what.
For some reason, despite his strong resistance, he had already made Shihan and Yan his girlfriends. Not only that, they had keys to his place and could come and go as they pleased.
How long would this horrible life continue? Chen Lin had no idea.
But he knew that while every day seemed okay on the surface, he was under immense pressure. The constant threat of death from an unknown source weighed on him so much he felt like he was getting an ulcer.
If he had to endure this for too long, his mind would eventually crack.
So instead of passively waiting for the curse to disappear, he had to take action.
Among the countermeasures he had considered, one seemed realistic: becoming a “scumbag.” Not the type who flirts with every girl, he wouldn’t dare do that, but a guy full of flaws, a “trash” high school student.
Since feelings of “like” were based on affection points, and Shihan and Yan’s affection for him was overflowing, they were so infatuated.
By the same logic, if he showed enough flaws and lowered their affection through his actions, it might work and be safe.
If the affection dropped low enough, maybe they would no longer be obsessed with him.
Because they liked him, they might have unrealistic fantasies. So he would shatter those fantasies with his actions.
The “Trash Man” plan, or “Scumbag Plan” for short, was something Chen Lin had been considering for a while.
Now, Shihan had invited him to an expensive French meal. He had heard that French dining had strict etiquette. Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity?
“Since you invited me, I have no reason to refuse,” Chen Lin replied. Originally he had wanted to say no, but now he changed his mind.
Shihan was delighted that he agreed. She immediately called her driver to reserve a table.
While she was on the phone, Chen Lin said in a frivolous tone, “Let me warn you, I’ve been overspending lately. I can’t split the bill tonight. Could you treat me?”
This was his first move: using a girl’s money without shame.
In the past, he would never have let a girl pay for a meal. But now he didn’t care. He had to show his flaws.
Shihan paused for a moment after hearing him. Then she replied in surprise, “…Of course, no problem. Actually, I never intended for you to pay. I was the one who invited you, so it’s natural for me to foot the bill.”
“Is that so? Then I won’t hold back,” Chen Lin said.
Even though the first move didn’t seem to work, he wasn’t worried.
Affection wouldn’t drop overnight. It would take time to grind down.
He believed that with enough effort, he could wear her down. If he kept it up, sooner or later Shihan would get tired of his “trash” personality.
“Since we’re going for a big meal, I need to change into something ‘dressy,'” Chen Lin said and went to his room.
About twenty minutes later, he came out.
He wore a leopard-print long-sleeved jacket, a wrong item sent by an online seller who had refused to take it back. His jeans had a skull on the knee, a gift from a blind box exchange at middle school graduation. He had picked the biggest box, and inside was this weird pair of jeans.
The accessories were all bizarre too. He put on everything he thought was the tackiest.
Even though the goal was to show his bad taste, he felt it took courage to go out dressed like that.
But for his ultimate goal, he could endure it.
Seeing his outfit, Shihan’s expression turned subtle. To her eye, it was terribly tacky and non-mainstream.
As the heiress of a wealthy family, she had strict taste in clothing.
Was it really okay to go out like this?
That was her first thought.
But she wasn’t embarrassed to be seen with him; she just worried others would think he was strange.
She didn’t plan to criticize his fashion choices. If he liked this style, she would try to get used to it.
They took Shihan’s car to the reserved restaurant.
Chen Lin had expected it to be in a bustling commercial area, but surprisingly, it was in the middle of nowhere. He wouldn’t have known it existed without driving there.
The restaurant was inside a Western-style villa by a scenic lake. It didn’t accept walk-ins; only reservations.
The head chef was a Michelin three-star chef, so reservations were almost always fully booked. Some people had to book three months in advance.
After getting out of the car, a waiter led them inside.
The restaurant wasn’t luxurious or ostentatious. It was elegant and quiet.
“This place really looks nice,” Chen Lin said, looking out the European-style window at the estate garden.
“Of course! I love this place. I even have a VIP card,” Shihan replied.
