Chapter 95: The Girl Who Followed Him

Going straight home with someone tailing him was obviously not the logical choice.

The most direct consequence would be letting the follower know where he lived.

But Chen Lin was no fool. He had considered that too.

He chose to do it anyway because he didn’t think his address was much of a secret. In some ways, it had probably already leaked.

Besides, he knew the streets around his home very well.

Chen Lin planned to use that geographic advantage to figure out whether someone was really following him, or whether it had just been his imagination.

So he quickened his pace a little and soon reached the familiar streets near his home.

He had grown up here, so he knew everything about the area.

That was why, at the next turning, he suddenly sped up. Using his knowledge of the neighborhood, he ducked into a small alley.

He had used this shortcut, discovered when he was a child, once before under similar circumstances. It still worked just as well.

Squeezing sideways through the narrow gap, he found the person behind him. So it really wasn’t his imagination. Someone really was following him.

To be honest, Chen Lin could hardly believe it. But the girl standing in front of him really was Liying.

She seemed a little at a loss because he had caught her.

She still wore the same clean white jacket over her school uniform. But compared to their last meeting, Liying was clearly different. She looked a bit haggard.

There was a hint of thinness in her delicate, rosy face. That kind of thin beauty made Liying even more attractive.

What caught Chen Lin’s attention most was the medical gauze wrapped around her left forearm. It was wound around and around, with faint traces of blood on it. It looked like she had been injured, so she had bandaged it herself.

But the bandaging was clumsy. Anyone could tell it wasn’t done by a professional.

“Why are you following me?” Chen Lin would never use violence against Liying, so he just pressed her with questions.

Liying’s reappearance had dashed all of Chen Lin’s earlier hopes.

He had thought that after a week, the whole thing should be over. But this matter would not end as simply as Chen Lin had imagined.

“…I…” Liying stared at Chen Lin. Her full lips parted, but she did not give him the answer he wanted. “…I’m sorry…”

What Chen Lin wanted was not Liying’s apology.

If every problem in the world could be solved with “sorry,” then the world would not need police or laws.

“What about your arm? What happened? Are you hurt?” Chen Lin asked.

Liying instinctively pulled her hand back and hid her arm behind her. She seemed unwilling to let him see it.

The more she did that, the more Chen Lin cared. He stepped forward and grabbed her forearm.

Maybe because he held it too hard, the wound on her forearm split open. It had only been simply treated, without any real protection.

Blood burst out and soaked through the gauze, blooming into red flowers on the fabric.

Just grabbing Liying’s left arm had made her wound open up.

“Are you okay?” Chen Lin asked.

The wound on Liying’s forearm, which she had caused herself, had split open. The piercing pain did not show on her face at all.

Instead, because Chen Lin had touched her arm and then worried about her, Liying felt cared for.

At this moment, Liying felt a tiny bit of Chen Lin’s love and concern.

It was only a little, but to Liying’s dried-up heart, it was like rain after a long drought.

Originally, Liying had only hurt her arm because she missed Chen Lin so much. While practicing, she had accidentally touched a metal training machine.

But what seemed like a misfortune became a blessing. It let Liying feel Chen Lin’s concern.

At this moment, Chen Lin was no longer ignoring her. He really did care about her.

A strange thought, unknown why it appeared in her mind, now filled all of Liying’s thoughts.

By simple logic, if she was hurt, Chen Lin would care for her. So if she got hurt more, wouldn’t he care even more?

If she kept getting hurt, would Chen Lin stay by her side and keep caring for her?

Chen Lin naturally had no idea what Liying was thinking. But when he saw her wound split open, he frowned and immediately used a ride-hailing app on his phone to call a taxi.

No matter what, Chen Lin could not just leave an injured Liying alone.

Besides, the wound under the gauze had split open a second time because of him.

The ride-hailing app was very efficient, and soon the taxi he had called was about to arrive.

“I’m taking you to the hospital,” Chen Lin said in a tone that allowed no argument.

“…No, no need to trouble you. I can go by myself…” Liying shook her head slightly.

“Let’s get your wound treated first. After this is over, I still have some things I want to ask you,” Chen Lin said. Just then, the taxi pulled up in front of them.

Chen Lin pulled Liying along and sat with her in the back seat.

The taxi started moving, and the scenery outside began to fall behind.

Liying looked at the bloodstained gauze on her arm and asked in an unreadable voice, “If I weren’t hurt, would you still be this nice to me?”

It was a strange question. It left Chen Lin completely baffled. He had no idea why she was asking.

“Probably not,” Chen Lin answered instinctively.

If Liying weren’t hurt, of course he wouldn’t want to take her to the hospital.

“…” The pupils in Liying’s beautiful eyes seemed to gain a bit of light.

Her gloomy mood improved slightly. She apologized to Chen Lin. “…I’m sorry. I think I asked a stupid question.”
