Join the ServerAt the amusement park on Sunday, the lines could drive a person to despair.
Chen Lin was currently in line for the park’s most popular ride, the “Extreme Roller Coaster.” Its tracks reached a maximum height of 63 meters, nearly twenty stories high.
When the coaster reached the top, it felt like the entire park was beneath your feet.
What made it even more thrilling was that the “Extreme Roller Coaster” had been in service for over twenty years. A breakdown at any moment wouldn’t come as a surprise.
Just a month ago, there was an electrical failure, leaving over forty passengers stranded on the incline for nearly three hours before rescue.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the psychological trauma those passengers suffered was easy to imagine.
Chen Lin looked at the long line ahead. The previous incident hadn’t dampened anyone’s enthusiasm. It would still be at least an hour before their turn.
Shihan was very unhappy about the wait and had complained to Chen Lin many times already.
But this old-fashioned amusement park didn’t offer VIP tickets, so there was no way to cut the line.
Chen Lin didn’t mind waiting. If they spent the whole afternoon here, he could go home peacefully.
The only drawback was that Shihan was holding his left arm, and Yan was holding his right.
This led to a situation where, for instance, a college student behind them kept staring at Chen Lin with a confused look, apparently unsure what the relationship was between the three.
If they were a couple, the level of intimacy was similar, but who openly cheated like that? Besides, Chen Lin’s ordinary looks didn’t match the adorable Yan or the elegant Shihan.
If they were siblings, that was even more far-fetched, again because Chen Lin looked too plain. No one would believe they shared any blood relation.
And if they were just friends, their affectionate behavior wasn’t what friends would do. What friends would hold each other’s arms like that?
So the college student behind him kept staring at Chen Lin with a strange expression, unable to figure out the relationship.
Chen Lin could clearly feel that gaze, but he didn’t want to do anything about it.
He weathered the questioning looks with a resilient heart, completely ignoring them.
An hour later, it was finally their turn to board the roller coaster.
Since each row only seated two people, the question of who would sit next to Chen Lin sparked electric tension between Shihan and Yan.
Seeing this, Chen Lin had an idea. He didn’t want to sit next to either of them.
“What a shame, there are only two seats. So to be fair to both of you, you two sit together, and I’ll take a single seat.” Without waiting for their reply, he sat down in an empty spot.
As luck would have it, the seat next to him was the college student who had been staring at him.
That group of five students had an odd number, so he was left alone.
Chen Lin sat in the back row, leaving only the front two seats empty. To avoid delays, the staff urged Shihan and Yan to hurry up and board.
Reluctantly, they ended up sitting together.
The roller coaster began its slow climb, rising over a hundred meters to reach more than sixty meters in the air.
This coaster, older than Chen Lin himself, was covered in rust that paint couldn’t hide. The wheels below creaked, adding to the ride’s thrill.
“Excuse me, can I ask you something?” the college student finally couldn’t help himself.
“Don’t ask. Whatever it is, I won’t tell you,” Chen Lin replied. He had a good idea what the guy wanted to ask and chose not to answer.
Chen Lin knew that telling the truth was absolutely out of the question.
And lying would be insincere, so it was better to say nothing.
The student glanced at Chen Lin and curled his lip. “Is your personality always this bad?”
“Yeah, life’s full of surprises,” Chen Lin answered with his eyes closed, his heart full of bitterness.
Just then, the roller coaster reached its peak and began its first dive.
The college student screamed loudly, almost wetting his pants.
Chen Lin sat calmly, expressionless, as if he were a detached observer rather than a rider, experiencing free fall.
Having died several times, he admitted the coaster was thrilling, but it no longer scared him in the slightest.
It was a strange sensation, like eating fruit so sweet it was cloying, then trying a less sweet fruit and tasting nothing at all.
A few minutes later, when the coaster stopped at the safety platform, Chen Lin was the only one who seemed completely unfazed.
Shihan and Yan helped each other up, clearly shaken.
Chen Lin had to support them as he led them to a bench outside the ride to rest.
“Big brother, you’re so brave. Yan was terrified,” Yan said in a babyish voice, snuggling up to his left side, triggering a protective instinct.
But Chen Lin showed no emotion. He was a man, but he didn’t feel the urge to protect Yan.
After all, she had killed him several times, and he knew the terrifying side hidden beneath her cute disguise.
“That roller coaster is really unreliable. I felt like it was about to fall apart,” Shihan said, pressing close to his right. She seemed traumatized by the ride.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of roller coasters in general, but this one was so old and worn that it felt like it could collapse at any moment. That terrifying feeling had scared her.
Chen Lin just sat there obediently, staring blankly ahead, choosing to ignore the strange looks from passersby.
