Join the ServerChen Lin was not the type to court fame or care about others’ opinions. But for him, life had only just begun. No matter what happened, he refused to become a killer and bear that stigma.
The death regression ability he now possessed seemed to allow him to revert to a previous point in time after dying.
In theory, even if he accidentally killed someone or did something terrible, he could simply commit suicide and reset everything.
Yet Chen Lin was acutely aware that his curse came from a demon. Who knew what flaws it might have? Or how long it would last, or how many times it could be used?
If he failed to regress, he wouldn’t just harm others for nothing—he’d also die by his own hand.
Even if the death regression ability were flawless, Chen Lin doubted he could bring himself to casually hurt others and abandon his moral bottom line.
Even if regression could erase everything, so what? He would still know what he had done.
This power could clearly trample over law and morality.
Take killing as an example: once he experienced it the first time, a second would surely follow. Then a third, until he no longer valued anyone’s life—including his own. He would become a walking corpse. Just thinking about it terrified Chen Lin. He certainly didn’t want to become that kind of person.
Because he wouldn’t have to face consequences, he could hurt others without restraint. But Chen Lin couldn’t do that—he wasn’t that kind of scumbag.
So what he wanted now was only to subdue Yan. If possible, he’d turn her over to the law and ask why she wanted to kill him. For now, he wanted nothing else.
With limited resources at home, Chen Lin now had both weapons and armor. Prepared, he felt much less afraid than before. He was calmer now.
Compared to going empty-handed, having a chopping board as a shield and a broomstick as a weapon gave him confidence. Even if Yan showed up with a weapon again, he believed he could defeat her.
Slowly walking toward his bedroom, Chen Lin used the stick to flick the light switch. The whole room lit up instantly.
Everything seemed normal. No problem.
The room was a bit messy. Chen Lin knew why: this morning he had pinned Yan to the floor, ignoring her struggles, and searched her thoroughly. That had left the mess.
His bedside alarm clock, for example, had fallen off during Yan’s struggles. He hadn’t bothered with it then, and he didn’t feel like picking it up now.
His bedroom was small. If there was anywhere to hide, there was only one place.
Chen Lin’s gaze shifted to the only wardrobe in the room.
He didn’t have many clothes—just his school uniform and a few other sets. The wardrobe was mostly empty, and Yan’s small frame could easily hide inside.
Under the bed was impossible to crawl into, as the space was completely sealed off.
So Chen Lin warily approached the wardrobe, reaching for the sliding door.
His heart beat a little faster. If Yan were hiding inside, the moment he slid open the door, she would surely attack.
Holding the chopping board shield close to his chest, Chen Lin pulled open the wardrobe door in one swift, cautious motion.
At the same time, he leaped backward onto the bed, creating distance in case of an attack.
Behind the sliding door was an empty wardrobe. No Yan hiding there—just his clothes folded neatly inside.
Just as he began to relax, Chen Lin shook his head. Now wasn’t the time to let down his guard. There were other places in his home yet to be checked. Maybe Yan was still lurking in some dark corner, waiting for him to become careless.
With that mindset, Chen Lin spent a considerable amount of time searching every nook and cranny of his house. Everything seemed safe.
Sitting on the sofa, Chen Lin finally felt he could breathe easier.
But just as he reached for a glass of water, he noticed the front door was wide open.
He was the one who had left it open—afraid that if he needed to flee, his path would be blocked. So after entering, he deliberately left it ajar.
Even though he had thoroughly checked the house, who could rule out that someone might have slipped in while he was searching? His caution might have backfired, giving an intruder an opportunity.
Chen Lin shook his head, thinking he was just scaring himself. How could it be that coincidental?
To reassure himself, he walked to the door and closed it firmly.
With the door shut, the noises from outside quieted, creating an isolated, sealed-off feeling.
He returned to the sofa. After sitting for a minute, he made a decision: he had to check the house one more time. If he didn’t, anxiety would keep him awake.
And so he searched his home again, from top to bottom. By the time he was done, it was already 11 PM.
Logically, after such a tiring day, Chen Lin should have fallen asleep immediately. But he had no intention of turning off the lights. He just sat on his bed, staring blankly. Fortunately, tomorrow was Sunday, so staying up late didn’t matter.
His mind was a whirlwind of questions. One of the biggest was why Yan hadn’t suddenly appeared and killed him this time.
Why had she wanted to kill him before, and why didn’t she now?
He couldn’t figure it out—he simply didn’t understand Yan’s thoughts.
Maybe it was his own fault?
If he had to point out something wrong with him, Chen Lin silently looked at his right hand. Could it be because of ‘that thing’?
