Chapter 18: A Bittersweet Rescheduling

This rabbit-like outfit was incredibly cute, even more so than Yan had imagined.

It made her look even more childish and adorable.

But it was the complete opposite of the effect she wanted for her personal clothing.

What Yan wanted now was to look as mature as possible.

Even though she was still in elementary school, she wanted to give off the vibe of a middle or high school student.

After all, the person she liked was already a high schooler. If she went on a date with him dressed too young, everyone would think they were just a big brother taking his neighbor’s little sister out for a stroll—no one would see them as a couple.

That was exactly what Yan didn’t want. She wanted to walk beside Chen Lin and have people instantly think they were a couple.

When she held his arm, she wanted everyone’s first impression to be that they were lovers.

Looking at herself in the mirror, soft and adorable like a little bunny, it was no wonder Yan felt frustrated.

For the first time ever, she found her own childish face a little annoying. Why couldn’t she look more mature?

Even before she met Chen Lin, she had been far too immature. Those juvenile clothes were a perfect reflection of the way she used to think.

Why hadn’t she ever bought any mature-style clothes? Past her had been way too casual.

If time travel were possible, Yan really wanted to go back two weeks and tell her carefree self, who was shopping for spring clothes at the mall, to hurry up and buy some mature outfits.

Because in ten days, you’ll meet the person you’ll love most in your entire life.

And a few days after that, you’ll go on a date with that person.

Looking at the pile of clothes scattered on her bed, Yan’s mood darkened. ‘I don’t have a single thing suitable for a date.’

‘What do I do? Am I really going to have to wear this to the date? I don’t want to be treated like a kid…’ She thought seriously. ‘Maybe if I rush to the mall when it opens tomorrow morning, it’ll be in time.’

Yan now deeply understood that for a girl, a date was a battlefield.

But no matter how tough it got, as long as the person she liked gave her a smile, everything would be worth it.

‘Right, let me check some online fashion magazines first. I’ll decide what style to buy tomorrow. That way, I’ll have a clear goal and save time shopping.’ Yan immediately picked up her tablet and opened the browser.

It was a message from Chen Lin. Her face lit up with surprise and delight.

But when she opened the app and read the content, her joyful expression instantly darkened, shadows clouding her eyes.

‘What is this? Why cancel the date so casually?’ Yan muttered, stunned.

That wasn’t the only thing she couldn’t accept. The reason Chen Lin gave for canceling was that he had something ‘more important’ to do.

No kidding. Was she not important? They had already made a promise. Suddenly saying he had something more important—who could accept that?

Her good mood was shattered like by a tornado, leaving only wreckage.

Her first ever serious date, and the person she liked had broken his promise.

But luckily, the second half of the message made her feel a bit better.

It read: [Let’s reschedule for this Sunday, next weekend, or the weekend after that to see a movie together.]

‘What is this? Does he think I’m that easy to placate?’ Yan said angrily, puffing up her cheeks.

Still, she thought that if Chen Lin really had something urgent, she could forgive him for standing her up. But if he wanted to apologize, he’d have to do it sincerely. She wasn’t that easy to appease; he’d have to put in real effort.

Not wanting to seem unreasonable, Yan picked up her phone and replied.

[That’s fine, let’s reschedule for this Sunday.]

Chen Lin’s reply came quickly.

Though she was upset about the canceled date, the thought of meeting him on Sunday immediately lifted her spirits.

She could endure just one day.

Besides, as a considerate girlfriend, she should give her boyfriend some personal space. She couldn’t be too clingy, or she might annoy him.

Changing from Saturday to Sunday? That actually worked in her favor.

She had just been worried about not having clothes to wear. Now she had a whole day to buy a suitable outfit.

But even so, as much as she tried to comfort herself and find reasonable excuses for Chen Lin’s broken promise, she still felt a little miffed.

And she was very curious about what important matter required him to ditch his future fiancée.

After thinking for a while, Yan admitted to herself that no matter how she looked at it, she was extremely bothered.

Chen Lin stretched and checked the time. He figured it was about time to sleep.

Even though it was the weekend, he couldn’t sleep in. Visiting the aquarium would probably be tiring, so he needed to rest well and conserve energy.

He placed his phone on the charger by the bed, set an alarm, and soon drifted off to sleep.

When the alarm woke him, it was already 7:30 AM the next morning. They had agreed to meet at 9:00. Chen Lin could have woken up at 8:00 and still made it on time.

But to show respect for Shihan, he planned to arrive at the station half an hour early and wait for her there.
