No treasure.
In fact, the scene before her was rather gruesome.
The moment the iron door was blasted open, a foul, metallic, and medicinal stench hit her, so strong it almost brought tears to her eyes.
What was in here, a bioweapon? She almost regretted coming. But she was here now, she had to take a look.
In the darkness, her demonic nature gave her excellent night vision. She wasn’t worried about not being able to see. Of course, a light source would be better. She would look for a candle.
When the stench had dissipated a little, she cautiously entered the room. The sight made her freeze.
Dozens of cages were neatly arranged in the spacious underground area. Compared to her own cell, this was a real dungeon. And in each cage, there was a prisoner.
But they were all dead, their bodies twisted and deformed, their chains still on.
As she walked past, the grotesque images were seared into her mind. It was as if different creatures had been stitched together, creating something truly monstrous. And disgusting.
No wonder it was sealed underground. The things here were not meant to be seen.
If she were to expose this, she would be dismissed as a demon spreading lies. The hatred of her kind was too deeply ingrained in this world.
She continued deeper. She had to see what else was here.
As she walked, the dark figure that had been following her landed silently, maintaining a safe distance. As it passed the cages, the bodies inside trembled, as if in disbelief.
The deeper she went, the more twisted the bodies became. Milly swallowed, suppressing the urge to vomit.
At the end of the passage, she saw two bodies that were half-plant, their desiccated skin covered in withered thorns. The sight of thorns sent a shiver down her spine.
Two lines of translucent text appeared.
[Failed Creation (Life Expired, Survival Time: 7 Days)]
[Cause: Forced Implantation Exceeded Threshold]
Forced implantation?
She pushed open the next door. What she found inside would prove her theory. And if it were true, the people of the Church were truly mad.
As she entered the next area, the magic crystal chandelier above suddenly lit up, sensing her presence.
So, this area hadn’t been abandoned for long.
This area was different. It was neat and orderly. Tables were covered in books, scrolls, and various potion bottles, most of them empty.
Not good enough.
She scanned the room. Her eyes fell on a dusty grimoire. She flipped through it. She recognized the words, but the sentences made no sense.
After all, she had no formal magic training. The power she had inherited was that of a warrior. The little magic she knew was from Stacy’s electrocutions.
In the corner of the room were a few sturdier cages. The creatures inside were also dead, their mutations even more severe. One of them was barely recognizable, a mass of flesh and thorns, with a few withered tentacles. The shape was familiar.
It was getting closer.
There was nothing else here. Before leaving, she noticed something on a table. It looked familiar, but she couldn’t place it. She left it and opened a rune-carved door to the next area.
At the same time, the dark figure that had been following her entered the room. Its gaze swept around, finally settling on the table Milly had been looking at.
…
In the next area, the air was thick with the smell of blood and a stronger, foul stench.
It was an altar room. In the center stood a dark red stone altar. A massive magic circle was drawn on the floor, though it was now incomplete. From the marks on the ground, she could tell the scale of the ritual. And on the altar…
Milly’s pupils shrank. This was the most abnormal thing she had seen so far. If it were still alive, she couldn’t imagine what it would be like.
In the center of the altar was a large, stinking mass of rotten flesh, as if countless pieces of flesh had been stitched together. She could see broken compound eyes on the rotten flesh, reminding her of the steak she had been served.
There were also many tentacles, all dead.
Compared to the beautiful Stacy, if this thing were alive, it would be more deserving of the title of Fell God.
“To deal with Stacy, they tried to create their own, obedient Fell God.”
Her guess was right. The Church was a bunch of madmen.
She used her appraisal skill on the rotten flesh. The text that appeared made her frown.
[Final Product (Failed)]
[Genetic Source: Paladin Bloodline + Unknown Substance]
[Fusion Material: Unknown Substance]
[Status: Deceased (1 Month Ago)]
Deceased a month ago. It had been almost a month since she had come to this world.
This must be the end. After this final product failed, the Church had sealed everything away.
One more question. Paladin bloodline… she stared at the text, her finger hovering over it. After three days of practice, she had confirmed that some text would show additional annotations.
New text appeared. Her brow furrowed. She didn’t care about the story of the paladin, or the family his bloodline had created.
The only thing she cared about was that the holy sword Dawn was his sword. After his death, it was passed down to the one with the strongest bloodline.
Which meant that the one who held Dawn was his descendant, with the same bloodline.
And the paladin himself had been dead for who knows how long. The genetic source of the flesh was his bloodline… which meant…
“A bunch of madmen…”
She scanned the room again, using her appraisal skill to look for more information. She noticed that the altar wasn’t the end. There was a hidden door behind it.
What was hidden there?
She suddenly heard a noise from the previous area, like something falling.
She closed her eyes and activated her God’s perspective.
When she saw what was there, she froze.
“Tifna? How did she get here?”
